I continue with Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian in various squat bulldog pipes. Superb smoking.

Today I have been smoking some whole Virginia leaf that I got and pressed into plugs, then cut flakes off of. Really nice straight Virginia. I’ve been smoking in both a cob and a TV churchwarden.

Any casing in it? Looks fantastic.

Thanks! No casing at all, my intention with these first plugs was to check out the flavors of the Virginia before I case it or blend something with it.

How did you press it?

I used machined aluminum molds and a pistol grip bar clamp. I would post a picture but both molds and clamps are in use and wrapped in heating blankets with a new blend. It requires far less pressure than one might think for a smaller block, these are about 1 1/2 inches square.

Heating blankets? Now you’ve got me really curious! Can you tell us more? What were the steps involved from leaf to flake? If you don’t mind sharing your secrets, of course! How similar is your method to that used by professional blenders?

So many questions!! 😄

It’s a little much to cover here, but yes, it’s the same methods used by commercial manufacturers, just on a smaller scale.

Beautiful morning for bowl of Ennerdale with my new C&D cob. How do I include a photo with my post?

I always use my phone, then you can just attach a file and chose the picture directly. Never tried it any other way

Thanks Rene12. I have a photo on my desktop, but don’t see where I can select to attach a file. The link icon only lets you post a link.

Hello Flip, and welcome! After your fifth post you should have the option to attach files. You're on four now.

Hi Flip, I believe new members have some restrictions at first around being able to post photos. I think they have had a bit of a time combatting fake/spam accounts, as others have had this same issue. I don’t know the rules as to when your account will have pictures added, but if you still can’t soon, if you post a message to @BriarBerg I’m sure he will help you.

Exactly right Ted. Thanks for the get back! PS-BriarBerg got to me before I even had a chance to post him.

I’m smoking another experimental blend to check it out. The Virginia flakes I pressed blended with 8% Kentucky Burley Red Tips, in an antique French meerschaum.

Pesse Canoe Oriental flake in a Savinelli 624. This is an atypical Oriental. Very, very enjoyable. When I smoke more bowls of it and know it better, I´ll infest it with both Cyprus and Syrian Latakia.

I couldn’t resist trying this beast of a pipe out, feels like I’m holding a bludgeoning weapon rather than a pipe. I’m smoking Sutliff Crumble Kake No. 4 in it.

Short one ... here we call pipes like that as "esquenta nariz" (nose warmer) hahaha

In Italy are called Brucinaso "Nose burner"

This name applies to the pipes of 11 cm and shorter (4 1/4 inches) and a minimum of 4 cm (1 1/2)" height

This pipe is actually about 5 3/4 inches long, so it’s actually fairly common pipe length, but it’s massive otherwise so it looks shorter. It smokes great, but I don’t think it works for me, I like elegant, slim and curvy pipes, this is a brute.

One of the most iconic "Brucinaso" is Castello shape 10.

Of the pipes of yours I’ve seen, I think this is my favourite. It’s elegant and distinguished.

Dark Twist in my Baraccini author. Moving on to some Escudo/BCA in a cob. The forever stems made my cobs about 7 inches long and they smoke wonderfully.
