It’s been a twelve hour workday, but for some reason I’m not feeling like settling down with a long smoke, so I’m smoking Kendal Dark in a TV churchwarden.

It was so good last night that I’m picking up where I left off: Anthology 2023, in a Savinelli Armonia Acorn. Delicious!

GL Pease Six Pence in a cob. New to me and 9 this one is good! Virgina, Perique, a bit of Dark Fired and some unknown but delicious liquor topping. On my second bowl and this is rocketing its way up my list.

That does sound interesting, I’ve never tried it, didn’t pay any attention to it until reading your description. I will have to order a can.

I almost passed it over with its boring name and lackluster tin. 4 bowls yesterday and each better than the last. Nicotine is pretty good too. Can't figure out what the topping is- rum-ish but not. Academic though as I am very pleased with Sixpence.

Well I'm back again. Thought I had this flu beat then Wham! It hit me again. Lol.  The only year in the last 10 I didn't get a flu shot.

@Ted, sorry I didn't answer your email. Just saw it last night. Thanks for the well wishes.

I'm sitting enjoying some Whiskey twist (From Ted). Very flavorful.

Good to see you Zig! Was about to contact Jersey search and rescue. I am loving my cobs with forever stems that you turned me onto.

Welcome back Zig! Your beard just keeps getting more impressive, by the way! I’m a bit jealous! I’ve never been able to grow a beard like that. I’ve had to settle for a goatee, to avoid any embarrassment 😄

No chance of letup in my schedule for a while, the days are starting to blur together. However, I’m squeezing in a bowl of Pesse Canoe 40 Latakia Flake right now. Some time in the jar has really had this blend open up nicely.

I have purchased some Latakia Flake 40 and Oriental flake to age properly. Pesse Canoe blends need time and they reward patience with delicious smokes.

I started early for me, (before lunch), with one of my favourite blends in one of my favourite pipes: Carolina Red Flake with Perique, in a Savinelli Armonia Acorn. I wanted to see if I could understand why I like it so much and why Nick isn’t such a fan! 😄

I think it’s because there are a lot of VaPers with strong flavour profiles and CRFwP is much more subtle. It’s sweet and sour at the same time, yet the Virginias and Perique don’t fight for attention. Rather, they waltz together, all the way down the bowl. It is, most definitely, a blend that requires some preparation in advance, if you’re to get the most out of it. A clean palate and some free time is needed. It’s a blend to sip and savour, with as few distractions as possible.

Anyway, I’m now enjoying some Anthology in a BriarWorks Classic Bent Apple. I’ll probably finish today’s smokes with Black Frigate, yet another C & D offering 😊 <fanboy>

I will say that it has grown on me. I had a bowl this morning. Definitely a good smoke. But alas, I must admit that I am enjoying Firestorm and my newly discovered Six Pence more. Why? Just my taste buds I guess. Give it time though, my taste buds can change with the wind🙂.

By the way, I didn’t mean to suggest you can’t appreciate subtle blends! It could easily have been read that way. I just meant it might be a let-down if you were expecting something with a stronger flavour profile.

Yes, keep it in your rotation and visit it from time to time. I agree with you that our tastes change over time, (well, mine certainly do - hence my desire to have as wide a selection as possible).

I finally have time for a leisurely smoke. I’m smoking my blend of WC Rougaroux/DAC/Krumovgrad in a vintage Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen (the top one).

KBV “Mycroft (221-B)” in Savinelli 310KS Poker. Another first tasting. Still trying to figure out Ken’s Sherlock Holmes themed blends… they’re interesting but maybe too intentionally “mysterious”. He was definitely successful on that score.

Paired with Black Ridge Straight Kentucky Bourbon 🥃😎

I enjoyed that one, straight out of the pouch. It should improve over the next few weeks, too. It has a decent amount of nicotine, if memory serves.

👍 I liked it very much. Didn’t detect any Lat or toppings in this one - just orientals upon orientals with Virginia as the condiment for a change.

Eileen's Dream for lunch then back to Six Pence. That tin is not going to last very long.

Lovely sunny weather here, at last!

It’s time to open the J.F.Germain’s Virginia Goldleaf! In a Savinelli Armonia Acorn.

Having a bowl of C&D Yorktown in my Boswell Volcano. It's been a bit since I've had this one. Always reminded me of Escudo but without perique.

Taking a Perique break today. Except for the bowl of Six Pence I had this morning. And the small one I had around noon. Ok, well I am taking a Perique break tonight and ending my evening with Gawith Hoggarth American Delite.

First tasting of KBV “Jupiter Slices” - a no-nonsense straightforward pure Red Virginia plug in my no-nonsense Shell Briar. Fantastic! No mystery or surprises here. Just a very, very well done aged Virginia plug. 👍👍👍👍👍

(I’m having too much fun setting up these pipe tobacco glamour shots)

I’m smoking my own blend of Rougaroux, DAC and Krumovgrad in a Stanwell.

What tobaccos is it made of?. I like the coarse cut.

Virginia, Perique, DAC (dark air cured) and Krumovgrad (an oriental). I press it, then cut it into about 3mm thick flakes and break it up. The resulting cut burns great, often with only two re-lights for the whole bowl.

How is the Krumovgrad? I've been seeing it. Hoe does it compare to Izmir or Basma?

Very long day at work- not time for a whole lot of anything including stepping out for a pipe. I did sneak a small bowl of War Horse Green in a cob. Home now and am trying to decide between American Delite or perhaps Sutliff Creme Brulè.

KBV “KRAKEN BAR” in my Chris Morgan Bones “Minnow” - yet another first tasting - out in the garden with a spot of jasmine green tea.
