Gentleman Caller. I agree with the review, which said " If you have any curiosity regarding deer tongue, and even if you don't, this is a must try." So... I'm glad I tried it. But it's not for me. The flavoring is intriguing -- a fragrant weed that was once a big part of pipe smoking, and (apparently) used apart from tobacco for its scent. I wonder if some of the swamp-like barnyard-evoking Germain-branded blends use something similar -- some piquant weed. It has a slightly sweet taste, but does not present to me as vanilla.
I also had some Watch City Voriental (yes, I've been smoking entirely too much lately). The blender honesty notes it's not an Oriental dominated blend -- maybe it should be called VirginiaO. The Virginias seem in the lemony zone. Quality, but also not for me, tho' I have become a big Watch City fan. Nor'Easter is on my all time fave list and Persian Slipper was good too. After months of experimenting I plan to go back to my usual faves.
Half Elizabethan mixture and half Five Brothers in a Morgan naked billiard...
Pipe Force Episode VI, in a BriarWorks bent apple. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this blend every time I’ve had it. Now is no exception! A Top 5 tobacco, in my estimation.
First time ever smoking a c&d blend: carolina red flake very nice!
I had sweet tooth so I threw some berry Cavendish in with some blending toasted burley and it's pretty darned good in this Bari saddle bit billiard I always kinda forget about. I got it somewhere along the line in an estate lot and kept it. Big ole pit covered by spot rustication. But it's a really good smoker.
One year aged C&D Opening Night in my Rhodesian. It's been 5 or 6 years since I've had this. My first tin molded after 1 or 2 bowls and I never had it again. Reminds me of McClelland #27 virginia but with more of a harsh edge and spicier. Somewhere I read that it's made with equal parts bright and red va. Jeremy Reeves says its uncased also so I may need to blend up a batch and make a crumble cake.....
