It is funny how we taste things differently. I'm going to have to disagree here with some people whose opinion I value and respect. Such is life....here goes.

I find this to be a very temperamental blend and thus one of the worst I've encountered. It starts out nicely enough a little Oriental forward, light on Latakia with a nice tangy sweetness from the Virginias. The bad news is that it takes very little pushing to deep six the flavor. I can get a decent smoke from it by being very gentle and patient. A momentary break in concentration and I find I've pushed it too far and off the rails it goes. It's like a train getting derailed by a grain of sand. At that point it's like smoking a bowl full of dirty socks, not that I've ever smoked any, but it starts tasting like dirty socks smell. It's hard to bring the flavor back after that.

It's obvious I'm in the minority here so it may just be the way my physiology rolls. Bless you guys that love this blend. Without me smoking it there's more left for you.

Mild to medium in body. Medium in flavor. Can burn a little warm so be careful.

I Love this tobacco.

This has really turned me to English blends. Smell on opening the tin is a beautiful smokey typically English and for my style of smoking it is ready to go straight from the tin. I generally only need to relight this once if at all and I pack this quite lightly.

I won't pretend to be an expert on english blends but like many I started on EMP which I still enjoy however this is by far my favourite English so far. I would say it's middle of the road strength wise but it really offers a pure tobacco taste I get no tongue bite what so ever with this.

I Don't see lots of hype for this blend but nearly everyone who has tried this seems to rate it fairly highly and I can't see myself being without a tin of this in future.

After several aromatic blends of Peterson never though they could make an English blend so good and traditional.since the tin cracks a deep, sweet and smoky smell comes out.the blend moisture is a bit more than most english blends have, but no drying time is needed.lights very easy and a few relights are needed.while smoking tha tastes are balanced, clear and natural.the latakias and orientals are balanced between them and they offer smoky notes, woods, earth, some spices and a few peppery notes.the virginias are in the backround and you get some dark fruits and grass notes.the cavendish are only sweet without aromas and this sweet note is supporting the flavours very pleasant.burns cool and medium to slow without chance of tongue bite.the nicotine level is medium and the room note tolerable to unpleasant to others.a really classic blend for english blend lovers though not an all day blend.

This is realy one of the best Latakia based tobacco's I have smoked. Comparable to Dunhill but with a more pronounced taste to the end of the pipe. Astonishing consistent in his taste through the whole smoke and with an extremely long lasting and very fruitfull aftertaste.

Highly rated Tobacco and surely one i'll keep in my cellar and rotation !

A good example of what many of us in America refer to as an English blend, Or a blend containing Virginia, Oriental and Latakia. The lat is light in this blend to my senses and it is an enjoyable enough smoke for me, but would not be the first one I would reach for had I desired an English.

It is pleasantly smoky and it has the sweetness you would expect to accompany this blend due to high quality Virginias. I am giving this three stars, but feel it is somewhere between two and three, but deserves the round up as it has got better to me with time. When it was fresh from the tin, it was definitely in the two star range.

I am not sure how long I had the tin, but it has lingered for a while. going from the quality tin to a mason jar where it lasted for about a year. I would guess I had it two years. If that is not telling I don't know what is. It is just not that special.

Old Dublin is one of the most consistently solid English blends I know of. When I think of "English Blend"... Old Dublin is the one that most often comes to mind. It's been one of the workhorses of my rotation for a long time. Everything works just right in Old Dublin. When you first open the tin/jar, the scent is reminiscent of My Mixture 965, as many people have said. But I think it has a bit more... something, not a sweeter scent, but maybe a more floral or fragrant scent. First few puffs... nice smooth, creamy English flavors. Everything fits together just right. The bright Virginia punch is there, providing a vegetal sweetness and some tang, and the Orientals are very floral and a bit spicy in this blend. The amount of Latakia is perfect, adding just the right amount of smokey flavor... and the Cavendish, which I usually don't really pay much mind to, provides a smoothing sweetness. I don't know what else to say but... this is just a very solid English blend.

Bottom line: Great blend. An English I can easily smoke all day.

I bought this one from my nearest B&M a couple of weeks back after doing a little research on a Latakia blend I hadn't tried yet. I've always been a Lathead but I had found myself becoming a little bored of them earlier in the year. But I hadn't had one in a while, and I had been wondering if I'd been smoking the same lats so I plumped for something I had never tried, thusly I bought a tin of Old Dublin.

The tin aroma isn't what I expected, not quite sure I can pin it down. Some strange pot pourri perhaps? Some bizarre confectionery that I occasionally come across? It certainly wasn't that the usual creosote smell I would expect from a Latakia, but none the worse for it. The tobacco itself is dark brown ribbons flecked with lighter brown and gold. Packing and lighting are easy. The smoke itself is a good one. While the latakia is well to the fore, it is well supported by the Virginia and the Orientals, and occasionally it seems to throttle back to let the others play on my tongue.

This is one of those tobaccos that it is an absolute delight to smoke. All the tobaccos in it contribute to the overall flavour much like one of those bands where all the members are really good at what they do (one thinks of Rush or Level 42) making the finished song so much better. One reviewer, Gun Smoke I think, said that this is one of the most underrated English blends on the go. I would second that and add that if you are looking for a good English/Lat or even just a good tobacco, this one will fit that bill.

An excellent balance. This was my first true excursion into pipe tobacco. I had read extensively before t decided to put down the cigarettes and reach for a pipe. Unlike many who started for the love of the smell, image, craft, or mystique, I began smoking a pipe out of necessity. I wasn't willing to give up tobacco smoke, as smoke is one of my great comforts, but I could no longer afford the $7.50+ price tag on a comparatively small amount of tobacco in a pack of cigarettes, even my favored American Spirit Blacks. Everyone suggested that I should start with an aromatic and I had actually picked one out to see if a pipe would be a good fit. I smelled the bulk jar of Old Dublin however, and immediately asked the tobacconist to return the cherry blend to its own jar in favor of this one. From that day to this i have never looked back to overly aromatic blends and it has everything in the world to do with this wonderful concoction. It has a heavy room note from my admittedly quite limited experience and so I generally enjoy it outside, but every taste is well balanced and delectable. perfectly smoky smelling even before lighting, the background filled out to roundness but not to the point of losing the front notes, it continues to be my staple evening smoke.

This seems to be the classic gateway into the world of english blends for most novice pipesmokers and/or aromatic smokers. Such is certainly the case for yours truly. I have been a bit apprehensive when considering sampling english blends as many people seem to think the room note is "cigarettish" which is an absolute no-no for me. After lighting up my first bowl of Old Dublin all my worries in that regard were laid to rest. The latakia has a distinct smell, no doubt, but I find it pleasant and not as acrid and sharp as I had feared.

The individual tastes and smells weave in and out of eachother seamlessly and keep me interested throughout the bowl. There is a floral, perfumy sweetness that sneaks up on me and makes me mentally brace for impact as I always expect it to get out of hand and turn the experience into that of smoking pot pourri. It always settles down and never turns into a dominate and overpowering taste for which I am extremely grateful. I assume this is the basma at work.

The tobacco is, as best I can tell, of high quality and provides a cool burn. Relighting was a non-issue for me, not that it really matters, and tongue bite was nonexistant despite greedily puffing away in a shortstem briar.

Well balanced and intriguing would be the best way to summarize. Highly recommended for other novices or generally english-blend-curious pipesmokers.

Peterson's iconic blend. Best smoked on a crisp and clear winter morning when the creamy Latakia produces a fabulous smoke.

The Virginia and Latakia are blended so that they peek through at alternating times.

A good level of Lady Nic., this tobacco will satisfy a hardened cigarette smoker.

Very little tongue bite.

A staple in my rotation. Recommended.
