Peterson Old Dublin
(3.29)
A supreme style of pipe tobacco based on the renowned cool smoky aroma of Cyprus Latakia. To perfect this delightful tobacco there are selected golden Virginias with aromatic Black Cavendish and sweet Greek grades added to satisfy the fastidious pipe smoker.
Notes: Albeit no flavoring is mentioned in the description, the additives list reveals 3.1 grams of added flavoring to 100 grams of tobacco.

As I smoke a bowl of this while writing this review, I appreciate the fragrance of this tobacco- pinecones and cactus juice with a faint stain of berry jam.
It is a good break now and then from the latakia, burley, VA/Periques. It's best when I open up my cabinets with no idea of what I am going to smoke. I pour over the labels of the mason jars and make my selection.
It's flavorable. It's easy. It's alright.
I won't buy a second tin, however.
At first light it had promise of being quite the tobacco. Now I suspect some insidious alchemical process is in place to hide and redistribute Patrician waste.

Nothing exceptional - the only thing that get it more than one star is the Basma. It plays well.
Very much middle-of-the=road. Maybe a bit *too* balanced. It's just there.
If you aren't into the nuances and complexity of some other blends, try this.

This blend just didn't have enough horsepower to satisfy my craving for a robust English blend. It may be nice for a first pipe of the day smoke, but if you like full-English I doubt if Old Dublin will do it for ya. As with other Peterson blends, the leaf is of good quality. I guess this is Peterson's attempt at recreating Dunhill's 965, based on its ingredients. I bought a tin of this stuff because its description was so close to that of 965. Lesson learned, I'll stick with 965 and Nightcap.

I think many other astute reviewers have hit the nail squarely on the head with this tobacco when they say that while on the whole it is not necessarily a bad tobacco, it simply does not stand out in any manner that would make you want to come back to it. That certainly is the case when one considers the vast amounts of alternatives out there, and the even larger amounts of superior alternatives available at that.
So, bottom line, is it a bad blend? Not at all. It's good and very typical of what you'd expect in this sort of vein. Although I generally avoid most Peterson products, given the right circumstances, I will smoke this from time to time. The recommendation is truly somewhere between, "will not keep it on hand" and "will smoke it from time to time - only when given to me or when struck by instances of nostalgia."

I find this to be a somewhat good middle of the road english blend. It smokes fairly cool and even. The problem I have with this blend is that it just does not stand out to me with all of the other realy good english blends that I've had. While not bad, it is not a blend im going to smoke when I have what I consider much better english blends available to me. Worth a try though.
