Peterson Old Dublin
(3.29)
A supreme style of pipe tobacco based on the renowned cool smoky aroma of Cyprus Latakia. To perfect this delightful tobacco there are selected golden Virginias with aromatic Black Cavendish and sweet Greek grades added to satisfy the fastidious pipe smoker.
Notes: Albeit no flavoring is mentioned in the description, the additives list reveals 3.1 grams of added flavoring to 100 grams of tobacco.

I appear to be going against the grain a bit here, but I was not terribly impressed with Old Dublin. OD is not a terrible tobacco by any stretch, but it seemed to be just boring to me. I love several straight Virginia blends and some call those boring. I also love several straight Burleys that others call boring. This just happens to be one that I find horribly, well, boring.
While this blend is not bad, I have to say that I think that it is quite similar to other light Latakia blends. To put it in perspective, if someone put Squadron Leader or King Charles Mixture in an Old Dublin tin, I don't think that I'd be able to tell the difference one way or the other. I know I sound like a broken record, but it's not bad. It's just not really anything that I think stands out as a great tobacco for me.
I give it two stars, because two is supposed to stand for "Somewhat Recommended." I don't give two stars to blends that I dislike greatly; I mete out one star ratings for those. I could only give this one two stars because I know that I will never buy it again, but I think that others may enjoy it.

I find the orientals in this mixture not to my taste. Not a bad smoke by all means. Just burns a little hot for my liking. And burns my whole mouth. With so many other similar blends about. I just don't see the need to buy this blend again. Peace

Opened tin gives off the aroma of a Danish type fruity, too sweet, almost brandy-like casing, (This is the new Blue label, Danish style cased English, “Made Exclusively For Peterson of Dublin.“ No blender is marked on the tin, but it no longer says “Made in Ireland” like the old white tin used to say.) Others on this post don't mention the obvious flavorings, so I assume the blend has undergone some changes due to a new blender. Just underneath the casing the English tobacco peeks out, mostly the Basma and to a lesser extent the Latakia. Lighting up brings the casing flavors - fruit and berries. A little artificial tasting. But the flavoring settles down, as the bowl burns down, enough to let the tobacco through. The Orientals are nice, the Latakia is more subdued. The Cavendish keeps it sweet throughout.
The shame is - the blend underneath tastes like it was an interesting blend, The casing makes it taste more like a cheap American blend. It's not terrible but It's not good. Given the price, I cannot recommend this stuff to any fan of the English style. As a medium Danish aromatic, it's as good as any I guess. Bites easily so be careful.
I love Peterson Pipes, but I'm not the biggest fan of their aromatic tobaccos.
Update: I left the tin open overnight, a lot of the fruit flavoring evaporated. Improved the smoke somewhat, but still not recommended. (Casing reminds me of Mac Baren's Plumcake, but less interesting.)

What promises this tobacco made from the tin. Smells just right, not overwhelming with Latakia, other tobaccos to carry and support it. I started smoking many years ago, and a workmate recommended Four Square Blue, which I really enjoyed even though a boy. I thought that I may have found a similar one, or perhaps just leaning towards Balkan Sobranie.
The taste and burn on lighting up still held promise, then ... the chemical tingle and burning. Oh please let me be wrong....maybe I shouldn't have cleaned my teeth before, maybe not that blend of tea ..
All hopes dashed to pieces. Sore throat, numb tingling tongue.Another one added to my never again list I'm afraid.

A sound tobacco, cosisting of Latakia, Virginia, Cavendish, Latakia, Greek Oriental, and, maybe, a tiny dash of Perique. For a pipe-smoker who prefers tobaccos with a lot of Perique in them (as I do), I consider this tobacco harmless, but very fragrant. In the other end of the scale of strength of the traditional English mixture types you findd "Blue Queen", which I definiteely prefer to "Old Dublin".

Another player in the English mixture category. This is a good tobacco, well cut and blended, but there is nothing to separate it from the field. In my experience of trying around 30 different English mixtures in the last year, this just does not stand out in any way. I'd bet that at least half the blends I tried fall into this category that all taste alike. Worth a try though.

Overall, Old Dublin isn't bad, I just dislike the taste of cavendish, which is too noticable for my taste. Otherwise, OD is quite mild, smokes smoothly with no bite and has a rather pleasant aroma for an English.

a fair cool smoke after lunch, no tounge bite what so ever, the latakia quite dominates and that is not a bad thing for those who like it, me personally not very fond of it. few more notes: the tin smell is teribble smells like old shoe and the tobacco comes to moist needs a bit drying before smoking

The previous reviewer nailed it. Peterson's Old Dublin is decent, but there are much better English blends for the same money. I bought this out of guilt for smoking 3 bowls at my local shop after buying only pipe cleaners. Should have plunked down $30 more for the lone bag of Penzance sitting on the shelf, but why deprive someone when I have a small stash.

I don´t know really what to say about this. It is certainly a German English and should not carry the name Old Dublin... More like Old Berlin perhaps!? 😀
Anyway, it resembles the modern Planta take on Presbyterian mixture but it misses a couple of spots that Presby hits straight on. There's some topping in there and I don´t really know about the Basma component, it certainly does not taste like any other Basma containing tobacco I've tried.
Anyway... It is not really yummy good, but still semi- interesting. I shall give it some time to see if it grows on me, but first impression is a little "meh!"...
Oh, remember to be away from people when you smoke this. I mean I am used to Latakias and their smell, but this is cigarettey and has another type of acrid smellyness to it. Still, Petersons best offering to date. Not that it says a lot though since every tobacco from Peterson that I've tried has disappointed me deeply. This is one step ahead of the others!
