Peterson Old Dublin
(3.29)
A supreme style of pipe tobacco based on the renowned cool smoky aroma of Cyprus Latakia. To perfect this delightful tobacco there are selected golden Virginias with aromatic Black Cavendish and sweet Greek grades added to satisfy the fastidious pipe smoker.
Notes: Albeit no flavoring is mentioned in the description, the additives list reveals 3.1 grams of added flavoring to 100 grams of tobacco.

Come concludere?

I'd held off buying peterson's blend mostly because of the tin aesthetics which don't attract me. But the basma oriental leaf is what caused me to disregard the lacking personality of the tin.
I'm very happy I've made this choice. There's nuance in this blend that is truly satisfying for me. Classic Latakia but not too much. It can be harsh sometimes but only for a brief moment. Sweetness and bread notes unfold and this is quite delightful.
It's probably one of my favourite English blends. The basma alone is worth you try this. It's unique.

Another blend that I have never smoked; it showed up in a buyout of another pipe smoker. Now I can say that I've smoked it. The tin presentation is very tidy with all ribbons of a narrow color range tucked into the tin in a very orderly fashion. I was impressed. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the first bowlful I loaded, as it contained no debris whatsoever. This is the sign of a professional and long-standing pipe blender who has some pride in it's image and wants you to feel good about using it's product - good show Peterson. The tin aroma tells you its an English blend and the smoking strength tells you its another medium English. I say another medium English because it sits in the middle of a very big crowd of medium English blends that, just might, represent the single most crowded field in pipe smoking. No problem, as Old Dublin holds up quite well under pressure. Many of us feel that it resembles Dunhill 965 and I can understand that. However, as I enjoyed my first bowl I realized that, to me, it was like smoking Dunhill Standard Mixture Medium. Dunhill Standard Mixture Medium is a blend that I never had much of a problem smoking in the old days, but it was never my favorite nor my first choice. I feel exactly the same about Peterson's Old Dublin. I have no problem recommending it to the reader at three stars, but it will never be my favorite. Reviewer Pipestud 2002-04-21 put it in a slightly different light when he said you can kiss your sister, but it will never be exciting - good show Pipestud.

Lovely tobacco in general.
However, the other reviews hereof perhaps created an impossible expectation as the Atlantis of tobaccos. My local tobacconist, Wesley's, has a houseblend with the same tobaccos that Old Dublin consist of but witb added Burley for a fraction of the price of Peterson. As a reformed cigarette smoker, I would have preferred if it had more of a nicotene punch.
But my prejudices aside, this is an easy smoking tobacco. The Latakia's taste is absolutely spot on. It light easily and stays lit with little to no effort.
It leaves a very pleasant, long-lasting aftertaste. Your mouth does not taste like smoke.
There is no 'flavor' to this tobacco but all the different leaves have a wonderful taste.
The room note might be off-putting and heavy for non-smokers but smells like heaven to a piper.

Excellent english smoking mixture, better than many others you can find on the market. It has a deep taste, enduring and it doesn’t cloy. Nevertheless it doesn’t shine. There are so many English mixtures and Old Dublin is one of them. Undoubtedly a good blend , with a quite great portion of Latakia, however it doesn’t distinguish itself by the others. In line with Dunhill and Samuel Gawith english mixtures. In my personal system rating (from 1 to 10) my score is 8/9 and three stars.

Very nice. Very good stock English blend, everything present and accounted for, everything doing what it should do, and a very nice price.
Nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly great either. A little boring. Does get better as it goes on, the VA's warm up and glow and the Latakia is good quality, so more than anything I think of this as a day-to-day English blend.
The epitome of a 3-star blend.

Enjoyable smoke. Good in flavor and strength. Smoked well with no tongue bite. Wife didn't enjoyed room note. Would buy again but better English blends out there.

Excellent light to medium blend. Sweet and cool all the way down. Mid bowl, when sipped, the Virginias really come out, with a nice spiciness on the retrohale. Taste develops a bit more through the bowl, with the Orientals coming through. 3+.

Tasty, somewhat sour, stronger than erinmore balkan and getting near to Nightcap. Good latakia inside. Ready to be smoked, good stuff. I will buy it again.

Old Dublin always holds my interest. I find it to be complex but still smooth. I agree with the Night Cap comparisons but with slightly less nicotine and a sharper edge.
