Another blend that I have never smoked; it showed up in a buyout of another pipe smoker. Now I can say that I've smoked it. The tin presentation is very tidy with all ribbons of a narrow color range tucked into the tin in a very orderly fashion. I was impressed. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the first bowlful I loaded, as it contained no debris whatsoever. This is the sign of a professional and long-standing pipe blender who has some pride in it's image and wants you to feel good about using it's product - good show Peterson. The tin aroma tells you its an English blend and the smoking strength tells you its another medium English. I say another medium English because it sits in the middle of a very big crowd of medium English blends that, just might, represent the single most crowded field in pipe smoking. No problem, as Old Dublin holds up quite well under pressure. Many of us feel that it resembles Dunhill 965 and I can understand that. However, as I enjoyed my first bowl I realized that, to me, it was like smoking Dunhill Standard Mixture Medium. Dunhill Standard Mixture Medium is a blend that I never had much of a problem smoking in the old days, but it was never my favorite nor my first choice. I feel exactly the same about Peterson's Old Dublin. I have no problem recommending it to the reader at three stars, but it will never be my favorite. Reviewer Pipestud 2002-04-21 put it in a slightly different light when he said you can kiss your sister, but it will never be exciting - good show Pipestud.

I received a sample packet of this blend from the fine folks at Peterson Pipes... that would have been back in about 2010. I tried it and I remember liking it quite well. I liked it well enough to purchase another tin in the future & there's one or two in my cellar now. It has a rather unique flavor that pacified my taste buds... reminded me a little of Robert Lewis's Tree Mixture. This stuff, I'd say, is a cross between a Balkan and an English if that makes any sense. Whatever, it's academic. I'll refer to it as an English since that's stated in the description. I think this is an excellent blend and many find it exceptional.

The way the other tobaccos melded with the Cyprian Latakia created a really tasty, unique English unlike any I've tried before & I liked the results. I've never been a big Latakia fan like some who'd smoke nothing else but I did take a liking to this. It was a welcome change from most of the "ordinary" flavors of other English blends containing the Latakia leaf. Smokes cool with no bite, takes readily to the match with little drying time. Good stuff!

All I can say is WOW! Awesome blend, it is on the stronger side and the nicotine hit is harsh down the middle of the bowl, there was no tongue bite. On the charing light it tasted like tar, oh dear... Tamped it down and re-lit the tobacco, all I say is wow awesome tobacco, tasted buttery/creamy, nutty and smokey. Sadly the nicotine hit is a tad too much for me half way down the bowl, it came out of nowhere and hit me straight in the gut.

I ended up giving this to an old gentlemen at our local Clay target shooting club. I just could not smoke it after it made me feel sick. Might be because it was my first english blend or I might be a light weight or I smoked it too fast.

Will I recommend it, Indeed I will if the fellow pipe smoker enjoys full strength blends. Will I purchase it again, not soon unless I feel generous as I will give it away probably after the second bowl.

My 2nd english-style tobacco, the 1st being a ''house'' mixture from my local B&M (which immediately got me into lat blends!). Old Dublin failed to impress me. It is rather mild in latakia, keeping closer to a malty, neutral tobacco taste. Some would call it balanced, and i agree that it might be a good crossover from aromatics.

My dad and I are having an english mixture marathon, in which London Mixture is used as the benchmark. In this light, Old Dublin seemed even more boring, being neither as spicy, as woodsy, or even as fruity as London. Some say the basma leaf gives this a floral taste, i did not detect it.

Meh, nothing really wrong with this tobacco, i just feel that in its category, there are much better options.

2020/03 update: more and more, I feel like Old Dublin belongs in the same category as Early Morning Pipe. It is light on the Lat, and while EMP evolves into a very leathery taste, Old Dublin is more earthy and floral, hitting some cigar-like notes past the halfway mark.

A mellow, light English blend. The Cyprus Latakia once more presents the extraordinary woody-smoky characteristics of this tobacco. It is a very light, smooth smoke. Definitely an English blend favorite.

Lovely tobacco in general.

However, the other reviews hereof perhaps created an impossible expectation as the Atlantis of tobaccos. My local tobacconist, Wesley's, has a houseblend with the same tobaccos that Old Dublin consist of but witb added Burley for a fraction of the price of Peterson. As a reformed cigarette smoker, I would have preferred if it had more of a nicotene punch.

But my prejudices aside, this is an easy smoking tobacco. The Latakia's taste is absolutely spot on. It light easily and stays lit with little to no effort.

It leaves a very pleasant, long-lasting aftertaste. Your mouth does not taste like smoke.

There is no 'flavor' to this tobacco but all the different leaves have a wonderful taste.

The room note might be off-putting and heavy for non-smokers but smells like heaven to a piper.

A ten years-old tin forgotten in the cellar. Made my day!

In the style of Dunhill Standard Medium (much softer though). Easy to smoke, no excessive moisture, no bite, perfectly balanced between round Virginias and fresh Latakia. An excellent blend! This tobacco could be the first step to non-aromatics for any smoker who hasn't tried an english mixture. Perfect as a medium strength after-dinner for a flake smoker, or as an all-day smoke for a mild Latakia fan.

I appear to be going against the grain a bit here, but I was not terribly impressed with Old Dublin. OD is not a terrible tobacco by any stretch, but it seemed to be just boring to me. I love several straight Virginia blends and some call those boring. I also love several straight Burleys that others call boring. This just happens to be one that I find horribly, well, boring.

While this blend is not bad, I have to say that I think that it is quite similar to other light Latakia blends. To put it in perspective, if someone put Squadron Leader or King Charles Mixture in an Old Dublin tin, I don't think that I'd be able to tell the difference one way or the other. I know I sound like a broken record, but it's not bad. It's just not really anything that I think stands out as a great tobacco for me.

I give it two stars, because two is supposed to stand for "Somewhat Recommended." I don't give two stars to blends that I dislike greatly; I mete out one star ratings for those. I could only give this one two stars because I know that I will never buy it again, but I think that others may enjoy it.

It was my 2nd latakia after Ashton's Consummate Gentleman, and it is still one of my favorite english mix. Well balanced, tasty stuff. 4 stars here.

My first venture into any blend with Latakia and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. For those like me who "nose" a bag, tin or jar of tobacco before smoking, this may not be one to do that with. The smell of the unsmoked tobacco is pungent and strong. However, the taste and the nose of the burning tobacco is very hearty and pleasing. The room note is probably not conducive to an indoor affair and others who normally enjoy your pipe smoking might not be able to appreciate this blend. However, I really enjoyed the smoky, hearty venture into Latakia blends and would definitely buy this by the tin next time.
