Orlik Tobacco Company A/S Golden Sliced (Red Tin)
(3.33)
A blend of golden, fully ripe Virginia leaves from the traditional districts of the United States and a smidgen of perique. Natural sweetness and freshness with hints of citrus.
Notes: Previous edits to this blend have averred that a dispute exists whether or not Golden Sliced contains perique. It does. Please note that the website stglanepipe.com states on its Orlik page that certain of its blends (including Golden Sliced) contain "fully ripe Virginia and a little perique." Moderator.

Mislead by the reviews stating a "mild" or even "not detectable" flavouring unfortunately I purchased a tin of "Golden Sliced".
The tobacco seems to be of good quality, as it burns cool and smooth and doesn't bite. However, the taste is completely covered by the casing that reminds me to the stuff my scrubwoman uses to clean the floor. If you don't like the taste of tobacco this might be the right stuff for you - otherwises avoid it!

Finishing up my first bowl of this tobacco and have some first impressions:
Tin aroma is light and sweet, quite citrus and grass. Very green smelling. The moisture out of this tin was perfect and let me easily fold, ruffle, and stuff this flake. Took to the flame very well and have had no relights on this bowl. I see why it is a hugely popular blend. The top note is enough for the aroma and is barely noticeable in the bowl, but does help highlight the higher end of the Virginias. I've read that this is a Virginia blend with some Perique and maybe some Burley. Whatever the composition of this blend is exactly may be unknown in its entirety but I hope it doesn't change. I will be buying more of this for now and for later.

This is a solid virginia flake, very approachable.
The tin note is nice, dried fruit and hay. The flakes themselves are pretty, medium brown with lighter bits throughout. Moisture is smokable.
The smoke is a very good no bite Virginia . Mostly hay and grass with some sweeter hints on occasion. The flavor is consistent throughout. I dont pick up the perique, that doesn't mean its not there. Burns nice and clean.
With age I would imagine this would be an even better smoke.
What I consider with all tobaccos is price vs quality of smoke. And this is a very good smoke for a very good price. Its not a mind blowing life changing smoke but its really good at what it is.
There are alot of much more expensive flakes that dont even come close to this one.
Will buy again and cellar.

This is the only tobacco I always have open in my rotation. I usually keep around 12 or so tobaccos open at any given time and this is always one of them. Whenever I cant decide what to smoke this is what I reach for and when I am in the mood for this specifically nothing else will suffice. Escudo may be my all time #1 but this is 1b. If you are new to virginias or want to try them this is where you need to start. Nice bright grassy virginia flavor. Lemon zest, sweetness with a little hay. The perique only shows up to me when I sip this really slowly. Great fresh and really changes with some age. Always behaves well in any size pipe and has never given me issues with tongue bite.

There's a reason why this blend is as popular as it is. It looks good, smells amazing, and gives you flavors that you don't find in other blends.
The tin note is incredible. Fruity and creamy, like strawberry ice cream or jam. Or maybe it's a citrusy fruit. It feels like there's some berry or plum topping, but there isn't.
The Bright Virginia is very zesty, sweet with very mild dry fruit notes from the Perique. The Perique itself is extremely mild, but it's there.
Comes in flakes. I tend to buy the 100g tins which come in beautiful long flakes which I then just rip a part of in order to rub out and smoke. No problem packing and smoking, with very minimal to no relights. Can get too hot and bite if you smoke it too fast, but much less than other Virginia blends.
Flavor is fairly consistent with a bit more sharp notes from the Perique after the first third. Sipping it in a small bowl gives the best flavor. But as a potential all day smoke you can just put it in your mouth and enjoy it any way you like. Just a tiny bit on the moist side, but can easily be smoked straight from the tin. Not a very complex blend, but not one dimensional either. It's not a boring smoke at all and if you pack it just right and sip it just right - you get a real Orange Juice flavor.
Medium body, mild-medium strength.
This is a fantastic blend and I hope to always have some of it around. It's affordable and easy to get. I'm sure it ages like magic. Easy four stars.

This is pure VA heaven. Slices of pressed flakes in the tin harmonioulsy manufactured. The fresh tin note is deliciously citrust and hay-like. Packs well, takes a couple of lights to get going but then goes well in a medium pace delivering a medium to full profile flavour of extremly tasty virginias in a creamy smoke - citrusy aromas are the main experience, delicious and satisfying. No bite, a wonderful aroma for me. Burns to fine ash and no gooop. A favourite blend.

Upon opening the round tin, I’m greeted by two rows of perfectly aligned flakes. They consist of mainly bright and some darker Virginias. I did not detect any Perique. The tin note is citrus, fresh cut grass, and a trace of hay. I usually fold and stuff, but rubbing out works well too. This smoked well in various briars and cobs. It did not bite. The nicotine level is mild. Overall, it’s smooth, mild and straightforward. It works best for me as a morning smoke, but can easily be smoked all day.
I recommend this for beginners. It’s also a good change of pace for Virginia lovers.

Good tasting tobacco the NIC hit can be strong if you smoke fast as I normally do. I have two tins One says made in UK and only Virginia is mentioned in the description, the other tin says Made in Denmark by Scandinavian Tobacco Group which the description says,
"This blend is composed of golden Virginia tobacco with a touch of Perique. A fine natural sweetness in both taste and aroma characterize Orlik Golden Sliced."

A classic flake tobacco. This was my introduction to VA Flake. I find the blend is medium in all areas and very enjoyable. Some say there's perique and maybe there is some, but if it's there, it has a role I don't pick up on. What is front and center is the grassy/citrus flavors that is very pleasant. I smoke this year round. I find it is a refreshing smoke especially during the warmer weather. For me, it smokes best in a couple of my billiards. VA Flake is one of the few tobaccos I have pipes specifically dedicated for. It doesn't matter if I fold and stuff or rub it out, it provides and enjoyable pleasant smoke. On my scale, it is certainly a "cellar it" tobacco and I have.
