The label on a London Mixture tin may look almost identical to that on the Standard Mixture, but in fact those are very different blends. While the Standard Mixture is perfectly (if not boringly) balanced, the London Mixture is a pronouncedly Oriental-forward blend. Latakia is constantly present far at the background, doing a magic to the taste but never openly coming forward to any measurable extent. The Oriental Tobaccos used in the LM are not the same as in the SM or Durbar. They are noticeably spicier and could even be stingy if over-puffed. What I like the most in this blend is its fragrant sidestream.

I think "The London Mixture" wasn't the optimal name choice for this expressly Oriental blend. Logic suggests a "London" mixture should be an English blend (more like Dunhill's Standard Mixture), not a Turkish one. In my opinion, something like "Constantinople Mixture" would have far better described this bouquet of exotic Oriental flavours. Anyway, the blend has long been called the London Mixture and went under this name into the celebrated list of Dunhill's Classics.

A good choice for those who like classic Oriental blends or need to learn what a good Oriental is (for this latter purpose, however, Durbar is far superior).

The tin note foretells the oriental content that comprises this tobacco. It has spicy and fruity notes against this acrid or fermented backdrop that is so characteristic in many blends, but this is no tobacco for Latakia junkies though. The Orientals play an important role here in the forefront whereas the Latakia leaf would be lurking more in the background, and I am finding it light on Virginia tobacco as well. There is this subdued sweetness that makes me wonder every now and then, but I have no doubt in my mind this coming from the Orientals. The moist content seems to be about right, but I advise to leave the tin open for a couple of days or so before smoking it. My tin is probably less than one year old, but I can tell this mixture will benefit from cellaring or aging time. I am finding this mixture quite similar to Robert McConnell's The Original Oriental in many fronts. However, there seems to be even less Latakia here. Also, it seems to evolve quite nicely as you progress with your smoke. If you want to explore oriental tobacco without being overpowered by the Latakia side of the argument, this is probably one of the blends you may as well want to try.

Perfectly balanced

Yes, we all have our particular favorites and well, at least in the English Blends category, this is mine. I find Samuel Gawith Balkan Fake just a little too heavy on the Lat, and Early Morning Pipe ridiculously light. And although I'm a fan of the Frog Morton blends, they tend to taste a little too synthetic to make my all time favorites list.

Conversely, London Mixture is a simple, traditional, smoky blend that is a consistent delight to smoke. It takes care of my Latakia needs, without being a taste bud hazard. Although I'll continue to explore the world of intriguing English blends, my "go to" English shall remain steadfast, at least for now.

Try it! London Mixture may or may not become your latest favorite, but I could hardly imagine someone being disappointed with such a rich, smooth-smoking, top-quality, smoky blend.

This.is.a.great.tobacco! An oriental and virginia dominant blend, this one is my bag, baby. More spicy than sweet, not quite smoky as the Latakia is a minor player, London Mixture is an excellent tobacco that greatly pleases the palate, packs a medium dose of nicotine and whose roomnote is more friendly than intrusive, according to my wife. LM has become my all day oriental favorite with Durbar. If you're seeking a flavorful and enjoyable oriental with latakia as a condiment, you must try LM. 4 stars!

Absolutely the best English mixture of Mister Alfred Dunhill. Smoky, earthy, with a deep, intense taste, this is a real ancient English mixture. Extraordinary latakia, really well balanced with Virginia and oriental leaf. Smoking London Mixture you can taste a fragrance of damp earth, wood and moss, pinewood. And you can remember the good old days. Not simply but really a great tobacco.

London Mixture is hands down my favorite of the current STG produced Dunhill branded Englishes. It smokes smooth and flavorful with the right amount of strength.

The tin note is reminiscent of the modern day Presbyterian Mixture's fermented fruit and light wood smoke scent. The tobaccos here are perfectly blended for balanced flavor. The thin cut ribbon provides a unified flavor with subtle complexities and an even top-to-bottom burn with minimal relights.

The overall experience of smoking London Mixture is not a dynamic thrill ride, it's much more of a pleasant, medium-tasting English style smoke that I would categorize as homogenized. However, this is not at all a bad thing. I am certain that STG's overall goal with this blend is to provide the most consistent flavor possible from tin to tin, & I think they did a tremendous job achieving exactly that.

London Mixture is also pleasantly sweet, and each puff finishes with a pitch-perfect light lingering Turkish spice that absolutely delights the senses.

A very nice, every day, all day English.

Too hot and spicey for my taste. Usually I like Dunhill blends, but not this one (and not the new Durbar). For a blend called 'London' I might have expected an emphasis on Latakia for a smokey background, but this London Mixture seems to have the emphasis on Orientals, perhaps also some Perique. Whatever the mix, it burns hot and tastes hot and spicey. Can be recommended for those who prefer a hot spicey smoke, but personally I find it an uncomfortable smoke, and certainly not pleasurable. Rather surprised and disappointed, and I won't be buying this one again.

Another fine mixture from Dunhill. Picked this up on a whim and was not disappointed. A very nice blend that has some quality tobaccos in it. It lights and stays lit very easily. It burns down to a nice ash at the bottom of the bowl. The taste and room note are spot on for a blend such as this. Recommended definitely.

A true classic in all aspects. Lighter than Nightcap and without périque and heavy in the oriental/turkish department.

LM is pungent with a small amount of heavy-smoked Latakia. Red and light VA together with the oriental compliment the Latakia well. Very balanced, but not as smooth as Black Mallory - probably because this one does not contain Cavendish.

Compared to other Dunhill Mixtures, this is much more refined than Nightcap and 956. Some say that this blend is the one all other English blends should be compared to (read Eulenburg's fantastic review). I say he/they are absolutely right. I just cannot seem to get enough of this masterpiece Thoroughly recommended.

Ahh, the first Balkan/English blend that I ever smoked. Due to my first tobacco experiences being aromatics, I actually almost threw this blend in the trash, thinking something was wrong with it because it wasnt sweet and tasted strange! Fast forward now, and it is one of my treasured blends (which I have little left of).

LM is an Oriental show. The Virginias and Latakia are there but are back stage performers. The Oriental is slightly sweet, earthy, and spicy. The Virginas add a bit of sweetness and give a slight tangy note mid way through the bowl. The Latakia is consist throughout, adding its smoking character. The quality is obvious and the age of what I have certainly helps. The room note wont make any non-smoker happy however.

I have about 4-5 bowls worth left as I write this. Unless Peterson comes out with this mixture, Ill be smoking it only once a year. Here's to you London Mixture. Nothing brings to mind 18th-19th century England like this blend.
