The label on a London Mixture tin may look almost identical to that on the Standard Mixture, but in fact those are very different blends. While the Standard Mixture is perfectly (if not boringly) balanced, the London Mixture is a pronouncedly Oriental-forward blend. Latakia is constantly present far at the background, doing a magic to the taste but never openly coming forward to any measurable extent. The Oriental Tobaccos used in the LM are not the same as in the SM or Durbar. They are noticeably spicier and could even be stingy if over-puffed. What I like the most in this blend is its fragrant sidestream.
I think "The London Mixture" wasn't the optimal name choice for this expressly Oriental blend. Logic suggests a "London" mixture should be an English blend (more like Dunhill's Standard Mixture), not a Turkish one. In my opinion, something like "Constantinople Mixture" would have far better described this bouquet of exotic Oriental flavours. Anyway, the blend has long been called the London Mixture and went under this name into the celebrated list of Dunhill's Classics.
A good choice for those who like classic Oriental blends or need to learn what a good Oriental is (for this latter purpose, however, Durbar is far superior).

Too hot and spicey for my taste. Usually I like Dunhill blends, but not this one (and not the new Durbar). For a blend called 'London' I might have expected an emphasis on Latakia for a smokey background, but this London Mixture seems to have the emphasis on Orientals, perhaps also some Perique. Whatever the mix, it burns hot and tastes hot and spicey. Can be recommended for those who prefer a hot spicey smoke, but personally I find it an uncomfortable smoke, and certainly not pleasurable. Rather surprised and disappointed, and I won't be buying this one again.

This is an uninspiring blend to steal from several other reviewers. The tin note is woody and sour Turkish/Oriental with smoky Latakia. The flavor is, well, boring. The Orientals are either not of the varieties I prefer or are of lower quality, I tend to think it is the former. The blend burns and packs easily and requires few relights. The taste is mainly Turkish/Oriental and Virginia with Latakia in a supporting role. The Orientals provide a woody, nutty character but lack any real strength or depth. The Virginia's are grassy and sweet but are dull. The Latakia is blended well as I think they were intended to harmonize and support the Turkish/Orientals and not drown them out. Smoke and sweetness are present and add to the melancholy flavor in this blend. I am 2/3 of the way through this tin perhaps I have not found the right pipe yet to make this blend sing. Not a bad smoke and nice when you are looking for a mindless bowl of tobacco. Not something that stands out to me in any way.

To me this is a bit flat. Not really flat, but also not "full bodied" or what i'd call a "very full/rich aroma". It's just really the definition of "Medium"-Blend. Strenght- and tastewise
Indeed - it's very well balanced, not bity, not harsh, a good, tasty aroma and smoke - but also not really complex or special in some way.
The tin smell is woody, a bit smoky. Packing and lighting is easy to do and the tobacco burns really well! Once lit you get a unobtusive, mellow and good tasting smoke out of it. There's really no need to concentrate on the flavours of this one, as it simply doesn't deliver that much of flavours - which hasn't to be a bad thing, at all!
I get some delightfull woody note mainly. Paired with the smoky Latakia taste and a bit sweet/sour Oriental note it delivers a solid, tasty smoke.
This can be puffed easily while doing something, watching TV, or working in the shed on something.
2/4 Stars - I wouldnt take it into my daily rotation, but its definetly worth trying and I see theres definetly a audience for this tobacco!

Murray version: Was one of my favorite Englishes, and really suited me well. It was in fact my commonest all-day smoke.
Fake version (after 2004): Not as bad as other devastated Dunhills, but still a lot far away from the previous version.
Why don´t we unite and make a one-year-without-Dunhill protest to make them know we don´t like their manners?
(If you see I stop making reviews from this date on, call the police, please... I make BAT And other obscure forces against good tobacco responsible for whatever happens to me)

This is the older brother to Durbar, also an oriental forward blend.
For me, esp. in contrast to Durbar, this doesn't do it so much for me. It's good tobacco, but very much on a floral side which counteracts to the smoky Latakia not in a good way. The Virginias seem to me ike too much artificial sweetner in a dessert.
After the first third of the bowl, the floralness fades a bit out and the Latakia with grassy Virgina takes over a bit more, so it is somewhat enjoyable for me.
But this one is definetely an oriental forward that I personally do not like.

opened tin of 2010 and smoke it for a several days, and I want to say that I found burley here. It reminds me MM965 . I'm not a burley lover so I leave a low rating.

All the oriental blends I've been exposed to so far have had that spiced Christmas smell of clove, mulled wine, cinnamon, or the like. I guess I just assumed that was what an oriental was. Upon popping the tin a sour odor washed over me. It was hiding some citrus, earthy notes, and some bits of clove.
The moisture was just right. packed well and stayed lit. The taste became more woodsy than the first impression, but still kept a slight tanginess I would expect from an oriental. It wasn't light enough to puff on all day as an easy smoker and never devloped enough of a specific taste to make me want to pack a bowl to satisfy a "taste itch". It fell somewhere in the middle of mellow and full bodied.
Because it lacked distinction, it is not a blend I'll likely buy again.

I found this to be unremarkable - not bad by any stretch, but not memorable, either.
If you've smoked Early Morning Pipe and MM965, take the midpoint between the two and that's a (very) rough approximation of what you'll get from London Mixture. There is noticeable amounts of latakia present, but the orientals are just as noticeable, if not more. The two in combination work well enough together, but they muddle the Virginias that never really gets a chance to shine through. It's a weird thing, but LM seems to find Latakia, Oriental, and Virginia in just the right combination to make the blend taste like Burley plus some condimental notes.
The tin note and room note aren't very pleasant, though. In the tin, it's nondescript to the point of boring and in the room it's a bit like cigarette smoke but not quite as lingering or acrid.
On the technical side, it was a bit of a pain to light and to keep lit - another reviewer of some repute has chalked this up to the cut and consistency and I'm inclined to agree. It's also a very hot smoke and generates a good bit of steam even; even paying a lot of attention to the pace and temp I was smoking I couldn't avoid singeing my tongue a bit.
I guess the best way I could describe this is an English/Oriental take on the old-time American codger burleys. Maybe that's good, maybe that's not. For me, this is one to file in the "not to repurchase" file.

Good latakia blend, quite strong. But as for me it doesn't have enough taste for pleasure.
