Nice....a little stronger than EMP...still some tongue bite. A fine English, though I must sound like a broken record, NightCap offers the strength, smoothness, and complexity that my palate longs for.

Dunhill London Mixture has become one of my standard "reference" tobaccos (a tobacco to which I compare others of the same type) and it is a tobacco I always keep on hand. It smokes cooly, has a wonderful flavor, and burns well to a fine, white ash. It has a delicious, nutty, slightly sweet taste. It if were just a bit sweeter, it would be the grail of English tobaccos for me. As it is, it is very good. This is a tobacco I can smoke anytime, doing anything, and have it smoke well without worries about technique. Like most Dunhills, you don't want to smoke this on an empty stomach, but otherwise, it's just terrific stuff.

Update 3-10-04. I regret to say that more recently I have found this blend to be quite harsh, nearly like a bad burley on the throat. Way too bad... Rating downgraded accordingly.

While London mix has quality components the whole sum is not IMO on the same level. Its taste is on the heavier side, without added complexity or unique nuances. While I visit from time to time, my opinion has not changed.

This is the first Dunhill blend to cause me to pause. It has all of the necessary elements for a fine English Blend and it smokes fairly cool.

But it came across as a bit too thick or heavy. Normally I would expect this to translate as a richness or body, but found myself put off but the general texture of the smoke.

All in all, I enjoyed it but will have to put it aside and come back again.

I will start by admitting that I compare all English tobaccos to Dunhill 965 which I think is the best there is. With that said, I think London Mix. is reasonably good but nothing to get too excited about.

As with most Dunhill tobaccos, it is well packaged, well mixed, nicely cut for ease in packing and lighting, and consists of high quality leaf. It is a nice blend of Turkish and Virginia with a bit of Latakia. No one tobacco overpowers the others, although I think the Turkish is most pronounced. It burns to a clean ash and has a nice natural English tobacco flavor.

I just think this tobacco is too "basic" for me. It is certainly a good example of an English/Latakia blend, but there are quite a few of those out there. I want something special in my tobacco before I can give it an "A" grade. 965 gets an "A" due to the addition of Brown Cavendish. Penzance gets an "A" due to its rich smokey qualities. London Mix. gets a solid "B".
