Dunhill - London Mixture.

A very pleasing blend. Upon opening it you are greeted by an aroma which is very enticing and the moistness cant be faulted. Also, another perfect point is the lighting, possibly one of the easiest to ignite for me as of yet! The burn is incredibly even giving a truly sublime smoke where you can detect the different tobaccos without any outweighing the others. Nicotine level is about Squadron Leader level, and can be inhaled with such ease you don't feel it go down! Zero tongue bite from this for me, no matter what. A slow burn so you get the time to enjoy it and can relax and enjoy. I cant find a single fault with this!

Highly recommended.

I was given a tin of this tobacco from my normal supplier of tobacco for testing purposes. As expected with most Dunhills, upon opening the tin, the tobacco was firmly packed in very neat and nice packaging. There were no strands that were clinging to the underside of the lid nor were there any above the round paper the covers the inside of the tin. Perfect packaging.

The tin note was the typical English blend that I was so accustomed to. There's plenty of oriental leaf notes as well as a good amount of latakia. The myriad of different colored strands of tobacco packed together into this tin was quite beautiful to be gazed upon. On the subject of humidity level, as usual Dunhill has managed to get it spot on and there was no issues with packing and lighting the tobacco.

Taste wise, i found this to be a little heavier on the oriental side in comparison to the very meaty MyMixture 965. It is very enjoyable puff after puff. I will definitely include this as part of my rotation. No flaws to be found with this tobacco and for me it embodies the perfect English blend.

The re-issue of this stuff is even better than I remember it in 2005 when I first blissfully burned through a couple of early-2000 vintage tins in October of that year in a Savinelli Signature gifted to me by a client and an Ascorti New Dear discounted by the Ardmore, PA, Tinder Box tobacconist who pitied my Katrina-exiled behind. This blend smokes magnificently right out of the tin – easy to light, cool and utterly biteless. Sweet Virginias exquisitely counterbalanced by the pleasantly acrid orientals. The latakia announces its wonderful smoky self on opening the tin, but when lit stays unobtrusively in the background as a condiment. This is not a “balkan”. For anyone desiring to know what an “English” blend should be, this is cricket. My ‘70s era Charatans take to this like a Jaguar to the open road – “for this I was meant.” I am going back to the tobacconist tomorrow to buy out his stock, but I hope age does not improve this blend. It is simply one of the best things to which I have ever put a match.

This is a light Balkan, if that. You can taste and smell the Latakia, but this is no Squadron Leader. Very mild, very rich. Great earthy aftertaste on the palate. 5/5.

I bought this on a whim, as I'm trying to get a sense of the Dunhill range. As with the previous blend I tried (Royal Yacht), I'm very pleased. It's a very gentle smoke, with a beautiful bouquet of Virginia and Oriental leaves. The aroma is simply pleasant light nuttiness and tobacco.

In a previous review I dubbed Royal Yacht my desert island blend, but I keep finding myself going to this tin. Hope my fellow pipe smokers enjoy this one as much as I do! (Pairs very well with Bourbon or single malt Scotch.)

Right behind Durbar, this is my second favorite Dunhill blend. London Mixture has a nice balance of tobaccos with the Orientals making their presence known. It's welcoming. The taste and smell is heavenly.

When I first opened the tin, the aroma that greeted me was more of incense than a smokey scent. The smoke was present, but not the dominant scent. Now, the scent and flavor I'm sure benefited from the fact that the tin had sat in my cellar for 5 years. Whatever it was, the scent and smoke were smooth.

I like Dunhill's blends that feature the Orientals more prominently. This one is no exception. It's full, but not overwhelming and the nuances are intriguing. They keep your attention but also allow you to enjoy the smoke for what it is: a pleasant experience. That's what London Mixture has done for me.

The smoke feels lively, not stuffy. It feels and tastes spiced. Not as in the sense of a flavoring or peppery like perique, but spiced like incense from the Orient. As it should since it's considered a Balkan.

There is also a pleasant nicotine hit here. Not overwhelming, but enough to let you know that it is there and enough to satisfy the journey.

If and when Dunhill does indeed stop producing and selling pipe tobacco, this is one blend that I will surely miss. I'll look for others to help fill the void, but while it's still on the market, I'm going to keep cellaring more of Lond Mixture.

Enjoy!

A funny thing happened. This past month, I have been switching between London Mixture one day and my favorite blend My Mixture 965 the following day. However, after smoking London Mixture, I soon discovered that My Mixture 965 had become astonishingly tasteless, completely bland and an absolute chore to smoke. I couldn’t wait until I finished the remainder of my 100g tin. It’s as if London Mixture completely altered my palate within a week, reducing my personal favorite MM965 (which I gave 4/4), into a mediocre and unremarkable 1star blend.

Anyway, London Mixture is an excellent blend and is my current favorite Dunhill English blend. London Mixture is a slight Latakia forward, balanced English. The Orientals are quite noticeable, resulting in a fresh and complex smoke, with a faintly mint aftertaste.

It is right on par with Apéritif, considerably better than Good Morning, and far superior to My Mixture 965. It smells like your typical English and has a tolerable room note, smells like burning wood or a campfire in the forest. The smell will linger and I could smell the Latakia on my beard 3 hours after smoking it while I was at the gym today. London Mixture is definitely an all-day smoke, great in the morning with coffee to start your day and even better on a cold snowy night.

Another great english blend!!when you crack the tin you see equal amounts of virginia, latakia and some orientals.the smell is combined between woods, camp fire, citruses and grass with spices.the moisture is perfect,an easy pack and light.while smoking the flavours are very balanced between latakia and virginias.woods, sweetness with fresh fruits, citruses and grass.spices and some sourness comes out too.burns medium with right moisture and peacefull.leaves no moisture and burns perfect till the end.no chance of biting or harshness.the nicotine level is medium and the room note tolerable.(in comparison with other latakia blends).not an all day smoke to me.i really enjoy it after launch with a cup of coffee or tea.it is similar to standard mixture mellow with a bigger amount of latakia and oriental perhaps.defenitelly a must try for english blend lovers!!!

I am and always will be a Latakia fan. What a person puts in his or her pipe says a lot about that person. Dunhill is a favorite of mine from the few I have smoked, I would have to say London Mixture is my go to from the Dunhill line.

At first sight you are greeted with a beautiful array of colors and aromas and are more than stimulating, it begs to packed, lit, and enjoyed.

The "stuffing" is easy and stay's lit well. I like the fact that the Latakia is present thru out pipe with out any kind of overbearing attitude. Folks it's just a great smoke plain an simple not really complex, and more than simple. Mild to medium depending pipe used and how you draw.

This one is, for me, one of the best mixtures from Dunhill. This tobacco is more tasty than Early Morning Pipe and Standard Mixture. As Early Morning Pipe is said to be «lightly stoved» and Standard Mixture is said to be «lightly toasted» (you can really taste it and it makes them the great tobaccos they are), London Mixture seems to be a more oriental-oriented mixture (no bad pun intended here), which makes it the achieved english mixture.

Like all Dunhill's english mixtures, it smokes perfectly well from top to bottom and is highly suitable for the beginner who would like to try an english-type mixture. I would also definitely recommend this tobacco to anyone who already likes other Dunhill's classic blends but has not try this one yet.

I want to state, right up front, that I really like this blend! I had ordered some Dunhill tins from p and c .com on a promotion they had going and, as fate would have it, one of the tins in the order had become unsealed in transit - one of the London Mixture tins. So, I removed the lid and cardboard disk and a beautiful sight and aroma greeted me. The last English tin I had opened previously was a tin of the current Presbyterian Mixture and I thought, wow, this looks very similar. So, I opened the PM tin and set them side by side for comparison and this is what I discovered; THESE TWO BLENDS ARE PRACTICALLY TWINS! The tin aromas are almost identical as are their physical appearances, with the LM being ever so slightly lighter in color. Their cuts are identical and they smoke very similarly, with the LM smoking with a slightly higher register. I would classify both blends as borderline medium/heavy Englishes and definite A+ smokes. If you go back and review my review of Presbyterian Mixture, everything I said there about PM's history is uncannily true for London Mixture: first a strong medium English, then lightened and weakened, then resurrected in recent times to their old glory and more. I give both blends unequivocal four star status and highly recommend that you try both.
