A very nice light tasting English blend, perfect for starting the day. It always did have enough nicotine to perk you up in the morning, but the tobacco in my current tin will propel your circulatory system like a rocket tied to a Model T. Nicotine does not make me dizzy. I get no buzz at all from it. But when you reach geezer status, you have developed certain indicators that tell you when you have received a nicotine injection. This tin of EMP delivers as much nicotine as anything I have ever smoked. If you ever need a kick-start in the morning, this will do the trick. And it is a right tasty smoke, as well. Highly recommended. Paddy.

This was one of the first tinned tobbaccos I tried. I liked it, all those years ago. (not that many). I stashed a few tins in a drawer and forgot about them for a few years. I rediscoved them and poped one open. Medium, right down the line.....just medium in all aspects. Good for an all day Orielntal/ english. All in all I prefer Mclelland #6

As many others have a tendency to compare this tobacco to 965, I will not. This tobacco in no way resembles the complexity and depth of 965. EMP is however a marked blending achievement in its own respect. This blend is dominated by the presence of bright orientals, though dark leaf obviously contributes a high percentage of the composition. The oriental content overides the presence of VA. The mildness of the orientals is complemented by a slight sweetness lended by the natural sugar content of the VA. Finally, the latakia adds a smokey essence that does seem to be a bit more overbearing than other reviewers have noted. I believe that this is due largely impart to the mildness of the orientals matched to the latakia. Even though the latakia content is lighter than full-strength English blends, it holds more leverage against the lighter bodied tobaccos that comprise the rest of the contents. This blend is not what I consider to be a great smoke in the morning. I prefer Gawith and Hoggart's dark Kentucky with an addition of 10% perique per volume. I like a stronger nicotine punch to complement the dark aribica coffee that I drink in the morning. Although a popular blend with many, I prefer to save this blend for the occasional change of pace from the deeper, darker blends that my pallet prefers. Smoking a bowl of this tobacco leaves me appreciating the likes of Gawith's Commonwealth, 965, and Nightcap even more. Point blank, too much oriental leaves this tobacco flat and rather one dimensional for my taste.

This has a higher Virginia content than does 965. It is nicely done because it doesn?t bite as much as some other English blends heavy on the VA, but it packs a much higher nicotine wallop than most. As with 965, it is not my first choice in the Dunhill lineup. But if I am seeking a strong nicotine jolt, this is a good one to go to.

Of late I have sought a variety of light latakia blends. Although I can enjoy full blends, I prefer to treat Latakia as a condiment, not the main course. Naturally I had to try this classic from Dunhill. I must say, the blend is well named. It packs, lights, and behaves so well, one could do it while almost asleep. The flavor is right there from the beginning. Dry, toasty Virginia, spicey, tangy orientals, and just enough Latakia to give a gentle smokey flavor. The turkish is present in the aroma, as well as a clean woodsy scent. I don't believe this is topped or cased, the description on the tin simply tells us this is a delicate blend. Other reviewers have stated they find this blend boring and bland. I see it as being solid and consistent. This is precisely what I want while reading the paper, or a good book. I want the smoke to be comfortable, and discreet, not demanding of my attention.
I can certainly see this being an excellent introduction to English style blends. I don't see this as a wake up for any Latakia lover, as it will leave them wanting. I will certainly buy more.

I think I've sampled a bad tin. This blend is bitter, bites like a pirhana, and seems too "green". That said I might try another tin if I can find an aged one. I do believe I may have recived too young a tin. With all the positive reviews and the longevity of this blend I must have gotten a bad one. Oh well. I'll stick with Rajah's Court. 11/10/04

As EMP's 59th reviewer what could I say that hasn't been mentioned? For me, it is on the ho-hum side - a second-fiddle to Standard Mixture Medium for sure. But, all things considered, it IS a nice smoke, likely a very nice "intro" smoke for someone wanting to flirt with English blends and, if such a person asked me for a short-list of such smokes, EMP would definitely be on it, if for no other reason than the typical Dunhill quality. EMP, though not in my stable of regulars, is very welcome to 3 full stars.

The easiest Dunhill blend to smoke . EMP doesn't offend your senses, your mouth, or your mind . Very smooth Oriental and Latakia presence . Elegance and subtlety .

I have been smoking this mixture so long I thought I'd already reviewed it! Some other reviewer has said the bulk Dunhills are made by Lane in America. I don't know if this is true or not but I do think the tinned version is superior to the bulk I have smoked. Where the bulk blend is alright, the tinned version is excellent. I guess the bulk version could suffer fro improper storage, mis-handling, or in some cases be the wrong tobacco entirely. This has happened to me using internet tobacconists! Even the local shops goof sometimes. Especially when an inexperienced clerk with little tobacco knowledge is filling your order. Anyway about this tobacco: It truly is a benchmark in my opinion. A perfectly balanced English for any time of the day. The only time it lacks taste is after some of the stronger European flakes, twists, curly-cuts, etc. If I had to recommend a beginner English, I would probably recommend Skiff as I find it milder than E.M.P. That being said, I prefer E.M.P. as I find it a bit richer or more forward in taste than Skiff. I would also caution those who live in drier climates not to follow the "leave the lid off the tin for a week." If you live in a low humidity or semi-arid area of the world, just breaking the seal and not smoking it for a month or so will dry it up to the consistency of twigs! The Dunhill tins don't reseal all that well in my opinion. This same drying out happened to me with the London Mixture and Royal Yacht tins also. I would suggest transferring the tobacco to a sandwich bag or sealed container of some sort once the desired dryness has been achieved.

This is not nearly so intense as Nightcap, but a pleasant smoke nonetheless. Unlike Nightcap, this wouldn't suffice in past years when I was looking for a suitable replacement/companion for cigars, but now I am able to discern the sweetness of the orientals. I don't smoke this regularly, but it is nice for a change of pace. One of many quality Dunhill English style offerings.
