I found this blend to be extremely boring. There was nothing to it. I gave up on it 3/4 of the way through the bowl. I put it in storage and will come back to it in a couple years. Hopefully aging it will prove to be helpful to this blend.

This one is for those who don't need a full latakia taste, there's some but it's not the principal arome. Enough complex to remember it, a tobacco to have at home, after diner.

Nothing exceptional - the only thing that get it more than one star is the Basma. It plays well.

Very much middle-of-the=road. Maybe a bit *too* balanced. It's just there.

If you aren't into the nuances and complexity of some other blends, try this.

I came to this blend for a transition. I'm a burley (non-aromatic) smoker, but wanted an english that I might keep on hand. This is definitely NOT one of those english blends that grabs you by the lapels and shakes you; it's more a middle of the road, soft and mild blend that smokes like a dream. I'm on my third tin and I'm enjoying this more and more. It loads and lights easily, smokes evenly throughout the bowl without any suprises or letdown at the end. It leaves very little dottle and a dry pipe. It's my staple for after breakfast. If you crave the "big" latakia taste, this won't do it. If you wish for something more low key and of good quality, this fills the bill.

For the price you pay it (at least here in Italy) you would deserve a much better tobacco. This is watery, very average, I could number dozens of better and lower-priced tobaccos on the market. Really a disappointment.

Old Dublin is a curious Irish weed. This is the first Peterson tobacco that I have tried (and it may be the last). In smoking, it starts off mild and rather pleasant. Shortly, it starts to have a sour aftertaste. By the middle of the bowl it gets creamy, but finishes overpoweringly peppery. The bottom of the bowl reminds me of smoking a maduro cigar. If you like perique in your blends, this might be for you. Perique is not listed in the blend, but Old Dublin had me sneezing as if I had smoked a peppermill. I do not plan on grinding this Sallynoggin blarney in my pipe again.

This is my second favorite of the "english" blends after Sqadron Leader some may not consider it a true english blend however I feel it is still very much in that category. It just has a different more midle of the road feel. Midle of the road for me is good. I think it is a good regular. I have tried this in two ways, first a very aged tin ( the thing was rusty ) this was smooth and very well blended taste a real pleasure. And a new tin. The new tin is a bit sharper not as blended and soft but still quite good. I have found that getting a stock of tins and letting them age for a lesser amount of time will obtain very close results to the first very aged tin as long as care is taken to not keep it in a cool but not too cold place place. I like this kind of softer cool english blend it is a nice companion for working or thinking. It is clean feeling and smokey.

This blend just didn't have enough horsepower to satisfy my craving for a robust English blend. It may be nice for a first pipe of the day smoke, but if you like full-English I doubt if Old Dublin will do it for ya. As with other Peterson blends, the leaf is of good quality. I guess this is Peterson's attempt at recreating Dunhill's 965, based on its ingredients. I bought a tin of this stuff because its description was so close to that of 965. Lesson learned, I'll stick with 965 and Nightcap.

I've been wanting to migrate from Aromatics and straight Cavendish blends to medium/full English blends with Latakia for some time. I've always liked the aroma of Latikia when others are smoking them, so after reading the reviews here on Old Dublin, it seemed there was no time like the present to just do it.

Wow..am I glad I tried this. Upon opening the tin, the aroma of the latakia came through the cavendish and orientals. The moisture level was just like I like it, not to wet or dry, just right. The chopped ribbons loaded easy and burned cool. The Latakia flavor is distinct, but, I could also taste the Cavendish and VA. The flavor was very tasty and complex. The aftertaste was great as well.

This blend impressed and convinced me to try other Latakia blends. So, until my tins of Bufflehead Pintail, Esoterica Penzance, Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader and G.L.Pease Renaissance get here, Old Dublin will do just fine as my everyday smoke

I think many other astute reviewers have hit the nail squarely on the head with this tobacco when they say that while on the whole it is not necessarily a bad tobacco, it simply does not stand out in any manner that would make you want to come back to it. That certainly is the case when one considers the vast amounts of alternatives out there, and the even larger amounts of superior alternatives available at that.

So, bottom line, is it a bad blend? Not at all. It's good and very typical of what you'd expect in this sort of vein. Although I generally avoid most Peterson products, given the right circumstances, I will smoke this from time to time. The recommendation is truly somewhere between, "will not keep it on hand" and "will smoke it from time to time - only when given to me or when struck by instances of nostalgia."
