I got the bulk version at a price that defies the Va/Per market. The tobacco smell while fresh is on the sweet side but dried up, it becomes more earthy and grassy.

The sweet, maybe molasses casing is inconsistent during the smoke from extremely mild to mild. The first part of the bowl is sweet, citrusy and grassy. The middle and third part is where this flake shines, I get round and mellow flavors of sweet brioche and some earthiness. The Perique contributes to the overall qualities of this tobacco without imparting any of the usual pepper or prune flavors.

A slow burning tobacco even if puffed fast, it smokes cleanly and doesn't bite. Even though it deserves 4 stars, there's something, I don't know what, that prevents me from giving full marks. 3.5 stars.

In its large, enveloping tin, Commoy’s Cask #4 presents a well formed stack of flakes that range from medium browns to some dark and light flecks, representing a range of VAs and some Perique. I forget now what the tin note started off as, but that’s OK, since it soon settled down to sweetened geranium over wet wheat and hay. Comoy’s recommends on the tin that this blend should be rubbed out prior to smoking, and I certainly agree. I also think it wants some rest and then thorough drying before smoking it. In fact, I would not smoke it twice before rubbing it out and drying it! Rested, rubbed out and dried, CC#4 lights OK and burns down with some attention. Lit, initial scents and tastes are fragrant meadow grasses and wheat bread, then some muted, savory spices kick in. There is some honey sweetness, and the geranium remains present, but just, once it’s been rested, rubbed out and dried, along with some sort of faint, floral, citrusy perfume. The VAs are well melded, centered between orange and brown leaf. The Perique is savory rather than figgy or peppery., and it sours some down the bowl. Strength is mild. Tastes are a click or two over mild. Room note is better than tolerable. Aftertaste is the best of the smoke, trailing off sweeter and sweeter.

With several truly great VA/Pers available as this is written, Cask #4 yet remains a viable option, depending on circumstances, and contingent on resting it, rubbing it out, and drying it before smoking it. Personally, I find it to be unbearably acrid straight from the tin, but well worth smoking once it’s attended to. 3 stars, with proper prep only!

Nice middle of the road va/per here.. sweet up front.. touch of hay /fig/spice on the finish.. no complaints.. smokes well.. should age beautifully.. I do think there is a slight top note.. pretty sweet.. for the price this is one of the best on the market.. love my flakes.. had much better but had much worse.. perique is noticeable but not a powerhouse. My only complaint would be that it is rather simple.. another va/per.. doesn't stand out. But I bet with age it will.

This is a very good Virginia Flake. Nice presentation, inviting but subtle bag note of raisins, hay and faint sweetness.

The Virginias might not be the most complex and multi-layered, but satisfy nevertheless. More of the grassy and citrusy kind than the earthy and fruity, there might be some artificial sweetener in here too, but nothing too disturbing. The Perique is well-behaved, always in the background. It becomes somewhat more prominent mid-bowl, as the initial bright Virginia blast mellows, but remains a subtle condiment throughout.

Smokes a bit hot if you're in a hurry, but won't bite the experienced. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more nicotine, but that is a matter of taste. Or addiction.

PS navy was out of stock, so I tried #4 . What sleeper this turn out to be. Nice and mellow no harness from first to last draw. It is sweeter that LNF, but welcomed none the less. Nose scent of dark fruit some citrus. I like the fact that l haven't grown tired of the taste, at times I do get a bit tired of LNF, not often but it does happen. In my book this not the same as LNF.

Cask No. 4, Stand Fast Navy Flake is not Luxury Navy Flake, although it is strikingly similar. The main difference is the very light honey casing that really makes this blend stand out. Cask No. 4 is light citrus, grassy sweet Virginias, a bit of bread, made profound by the sparse bit of Perique that lends a hint of figs and raisin with no spice. The honey sweet backdrop is perceivable from beginning to end, yet it is merely a whisper and won't distract from the natural flavors of this fantastic flake. The flake's nicotine is mild, and moisture is perfect. Easily rubbed out, easily packed, definitely an all day smoke. I personally prefer Stand Fast Navy Flake over Luxury Navy Flake. Because Luxury Navy Flake achieves a very solid 3 stars, Stand Fast gets 3.5. Highly recommended.

Cask 4 Bulk Was a pleasant relaxing smoke that left a slight sweet aftertaste. Very easy to pack and was enjoyable right to the end.

This was the first non-aeromatic that I truly enjoyed and will add it to my rotation.

It seems everyone is saying this is PS LNF . I finished about a 2 oz jar LNF a couple weeks ago and to be honest my memory can’t go even that far back to be exact . This jar of Comoys cask no 4 is about 2 yrs old though . Not sure why i jarred it as it is almost full . I must have buried it in my stash ? Comoys no 4 is pretty smooth in my bowl right now. The Virginias are dark fruity with a little lemon citrus and floral with some cinnamon spice that might be from Perique also. A Rum topping added for sweetness. It has a nice creamy feel . The Perique seems more evident than LNF but still on mild side . I’ve been enjoying this quite a bit ! A lot of floral notes ! On a side note i love the tins Comoys blends come in . 4 stars as I would but it again .
Age When Smoked: At least 2 yrs jarred .

This tobacco lit easily with one match, and burned reliably all the way down with no relights. This was a solid smoke. Mostly virginia, with just a hint of perique. I picked up citrus and toasty hay notes, with an occasional bit of spiciness. This is a nicely balanced tobacco, especially if you don’t like too much perique. The smoke was good. Not thick and creamy, but pleasant. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this tobacco. It was not exceptional, but it was not bad.

Reminds me a lot of the Stokkebye and Newminister navy flakes.

Very fresh and young, love the colour and the unlit aroma, just a hint of topping, slightly moist, very tame at this point, certainly needs time to age, the first quarter of the bowl is quite gentle, as it develops further in the later stage, the spice comes through and the sweetness of the Virginia shining brightly! No bite if you puff it gently. All in all, a satisfactory puff, for the price I paid, almost five stars. I have absolutely no complaint!
