Peterson Nightcap
(3.46)
A rich blend of Virginia, Oriental, and Latakia tobaccos, intended to be smoked late in the day. It's a smoky, delightfully satisfying mixture, with a hint of Perique added to enhance the bouquet.
Notes: Formerly known as Dunhill Nightcap, STG has changed the brand name from "Dunhill" to "Peterson".

let me tell yall like dis....dis is my second blend from dunhill and i tink it's too overrated for its strong strength properties....dis baby rite here it makes you feel gud no matter the weather....if ur sum1 lukin for sum straight strong english tobacco this isnt the answer 2 your demand...for those lookin for a very very very mild and cool latakia blend...nightcap shud b on ur top list...;dusnt give tounge bite...the latakia cud b savord as u exhale the smoke slowly n at the same time, u'll notice dat it's complemented along side wit the sweet va's...well the room note is quite strong but nt 2 the extent of being irritatin to passer-by's....as 4 me who's an avid advocate of straight strong english leaves, this baby is gud wen im in d mud of smokin latakia dats nt too robust

As quality as it is, I only give two stars as the flavor last, and last,....and last......and last. your mouth, and all that enters it... will taste of it for a good while. When the flavor wont come out with tooth brush, baking soda, washrag, mouth rinse, its just too strong for often use.

I have had a limited foray into English blends, as I mostly (still) smoke aromatics. However, when the mood strikes, I am rather enamoured of this stuff. Of the several Dunhill blends I have tried, this is the strongest, both in taste and the complaints I receive from my fellow smokers, few of whom share my like for Nightcap. When I smoke this, it usually turns into an all day deal, despite (or perhaps because of) the heavy nicotine content. If Nightcap is the first blend in my daily rotation, it can hit me like a ton of bricks - which isn't necessarily a bad thing!
I smoke the bulk blend which I purchase in a local tobaccanist in Pittsburgh's Station Square, and have never tried this from a tin. Therefore, I do not know how it rates against Murray's or Orlik's, as I just don't know who blends it. All in all, I recommend this blend, even for those novices starting into the English blends. One has to start somewhere, so why not at the top?

Orlik version reviewed.
Nightcap was not the monster I feared. Sort of a sleepy dragon instead, really, where the latakia and perique temper each other rather than amplify each other. It is not a "savor the latakia" kind of blend, but rather one where the latakia is married well with other components to create new distinctive flavors. Upgrade!

Stout, tasty, and top-heavy with Perique. Won't make my rotation as there are other blends in the same niche I prefer. If you love a heavy Perique presence in English blends, add a star or two. (This review is of the Murray's version.)

A great blend. a full latakia blend for late in the evening, the nicotine is guaranteed to get you. has a great smokey/ leathery taste and smell. packs easily, and burns great till the bottom and i never had it bite me. The perique is subtle but at the same time noticeable, while the smooth latakia dominates the blend. wonderful.

My first English Balkan blend and definitely one of my favorites. Comparable to GLP's Odyssey, only less bold nor as smooth in character. Virginias are skillfully flavored with Latakia and a little Perique for ballance. I wasn't too impressed with the quality though. The 50g tin I acquired was dryer than I expected it to be after breaking the air seal. This is still a very bold smoke, so around non-smokers it seems unacceptable. Although I feel it's still an indoor smoke, just courteously so. This is also a very strong tobacco, one of the strongest I've smoked to date. If not smoked carefully you'll bite the tounge, get some clammy hands and a spinning head.

I bought a tin of Nightcap anxious for the heavy latakia flavor that I had come to love smoking g.l.p blends like Odessey and ravens wing and was very dissapointed. I don't know why I am missing the leathery experiance through the nostrils that I get with other english blends. I know that this blend is one of the most famous of it's kind. Its not that I think its a bad blend, its just that something in my system is missing the latakia. Is it possible that there is too much of this tobacco? Oh, well maybee I'm just an oddball.

Nightcap is a good, moderately powerful English blend with a heavy dose of perique. It packs easy and burns easy. It doesn't bite, though my throat does get a little irritated sometimes when I smoke it. Originally introduced in 1951, it is considered by some to be the ultimate English. I find it to be pleasant, but generally overrated. There are a number of C&D, Peretti, GLP, and Pipeworks and Wilke English blends I'd smoke over this one. And its nicotine content isn't as high, in my estimation, as others find it.
