Peterson My Mixture 965
(3.17)
Peterson's My Mixture 965 is for the connoisseurs of full bodied tobacco. Choicest small latakia imparts a rich nutty flavor and coolness. Macedonia bright is added for sweetness. Brown cavendish completes this blend beloved by English mixture aficionados.
Notes: From its inception and until 1981, it was produced by Dunhill of London.Production was then transferred to Murrays in Belfast who like Dunhill were owned by Carreras Rothmans. Murrays produced it until late 2004 when BAT, who by that time had taken over Rothmans International, closed the Belfast factory.
Since then it has been produced by Orlik, Denmark, part of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
Pipe Tobacco Hall of Fame Inductee.
Formerly known as Dunhill My Mixture 965, STG bought the rights to some Dunhill blends and changed the brand name from "Dunhill" to "Peterson".

August-September 1994
Until I tried 965, I thought that Nightcap was the quintessential Dunhill English blend. I found 965 to be slightly sweeter, less heavy on the latakia, and more complex than the Nightcap, but still more full than Early Morning Pipe. I really like this blend and will always keep a tin on hand for Saturday afternoons--I'll save the Nightcap for post-large-dinner puffing with a glass of port ala a nice Honduran Hoyo Excalibur or Cuban Cohiba Robusta.

What to say about this. It is a benchmark tobacco. Does not bite, taste is delicous and good for an all-day smoke. Leaves only grey ashes in the bowl. It is one of the 2 Dunhill-tobaccos that is for sale in the shops in the Netherlands. I always have a tin opened!

This one is the perfect example of a good all around, "all day-every day" smoke. Personally, I prefer stronger tobaccos so, I find this blend only somewhat pleasing to my nicotine cravings; this may change with time. However, I will say that the taste is excellent and a shining example of the Dunhill flavor. It holds a good, full flavor without being too rich; and the Orientals truly add the high point to the taste without being too sweet or overpowering. While I don't find this to be my personal #1 favorite, the flavor alone keeps my respect and a place on my shelf. I don't have a tin of this now but it is good enough for me to give it the top rating.

Another holy grail smoke! This is an AWESOME pipe tobacco. Cool-burning, very sweet latakia blend with hints of nuts and gragrant spice. I might be out of line putting this in a category of an almost "dessert" tobacco, but it really is... IN IT'S OWN RIGHT. It's not some fruity, cased or topped tobacco, but a rich, complex, SWEET smoking, cool-burning pipe tobacco that is brilliant.
Sumptuous, classic, luxurious... Mind the manly laugh...
I will be cellaring this blend. It is THAT good.

October-2003. It has now been nearly two year's,since I first reviewed M/M/965.After trying many, many other English tobacco's,I would have to rate this as one,of my all time favourite's. It's never boring, being full of various flavour's,& a rich spiceness to it.Without a 'bite'(At least to me)This is one tobacco that I never get tired of,& I often smoke it back to back, many, many time's over. It also offer's a few pleasant surprizes, all the way to the bottom of the bowl. The Cavendish,Latakia & Oriental's all come out to play, performing like well tuned Orchestra. Easy to light,& behave's extremely well. Highly recommended.10 out of 10

Another review of Dunhill 965 would almost be gratuitous.
I grew up smelling this stuff, and it was the first blend I ever smoked. I always have some on hand and recently popped a tin that had been aging for more than a year. What a treat!
Dunhill 965 may no longer be the bellwether of English blends to some smokers, but it's a classic and the benchmark to which I compare every English I smoke. My Mixture 965 is a blend that, if it's to your liking, you can safely return to time and again -- a consistent performer.
Yes, some English blends are better; many are worse. In the end, I know I can always count on 965 to deliver (and the flood of sense memories of my childhood is a bonus).
If you've never tried this blend, now's the time to do so.

There is nothing I can say in praise of 965 that has not already been said. It is, for me, the definitive English Blend.
