Davidoff Scottish Mixture

(2.54)
Scottish Mixture’s smooth, flavorful and mild middle-cut blend is enduringly popular. The fresh and delicately flowery aroma comes from select grades of Virginia, burley, Kentucky and a small portion of Oriental tobaccos – refined with a dash of the finest Scotch whisky.

I've never cared for whisky, particularly Scotch.

But that's ok, this doesn't taste of it !

Actually other than the barest suggestion at lighting up time this tobacco has no taste at all.

This is suprising as Davidoffs do a good tobacco. The Danish is great, and their Blue n' Reds are rather mild but at least have something about them.

The tin aroma almost saves this one, but not quite. I pushed this harder than usual and got no bite. Have to say it burns well all the tasteless way to the bottom of the bowl.

Not a memorable tobacco. Disappointing from Davidoffs.

This blend is to scottish blends what MacBaren's Plum Cake is to english blends: mild, sweet, and approachable. Much like the latakia in PC, the orientals serve merely as a condiment, occasionally poking through with just a hint of extra spice to keep your attention. Similarly, the kentucky adds just a pinsh of earthiness to the blend. The main player here is definitely the virginias which provide ample sweetness to the blend. The whiskey casing is not distracting but serves to highlight the natural flavors of the tobaccos used. All in all this is a straight forward and playful blend, not complex but non the less satisfying for anyone looking for an all day smoke.

One of my favorites. When opening the tin you are greeted by a delicious smell of whisky. Burns evenly to a fine ash, produces a nice thick smoke and tastes delicious. I find it very well made, the reason it has not become a part of my rotation is that for the price there are even better tobaccos out there.

A very good tobacco, with fine taste and note! No intense flavors...natural taste! Ideal to smoke every hour! You can pair it with a cup of coffee, not with alcohol since it isn’t strong!

in my country there are not many choises of pipe tobaccos and most of them are aromatics so this one was my first "real" tobacco after the aromatic. it's an easy semi-aromatic tobacco to start with as it has a nice cut to pack easy and doesnt need to dry much before. i enjoyed it as long as it lasted and never smoked my rolling tobacco since but i wouldn't buy it again. i've smoked more tobaccos since then and i can say it's not that good to justify its high price.

Nice whiskey flavoring from davidoff, really mild in taste and aroma. I give it two stars simply because it is not a complex smoke with different notes as the bowl progresses. Nevertheless, it is a quality tobacco as almost all davidoffs are. Though overpriced.

I’m sweeping some old tins from my cabinet, and this– alongwith Royalty and English Mixture – were sleeping since 2011.

Davidoff Scottish Mixture was the most expensive tobacco in Italy before the EUR. For this reason, plus the reputation of being produced in Holland (instead of England) at the time, I’ve stayed clear from trying it. Then, in 2011 I had the chance to buy some Davidoff’s at the Dubai Free Shop, and that made things easier.

I’ve never been able to imagine what this Scottish Mixture was about. It took me very unprepared when at the opening I saw the tobacco: basically a VaBur with some darker speck, not Latakia but some fired Burley. Maybe some Orientals too, very difficult to say. Whisky ? if that is in, it’s a feather. Very mild aroma, very natural. The quality of the leaves looks good but not fantastic, if I can say that… Humidity was perfect.

The smoke: the first bowls were from “acceptable” to “horrific”. This baby is not for the uncommitted smoke. After ten bowls or something, I understood that something pleasant could be had by the slowest and committed smoking. Every acceleration brought salty and bitter smoke, everything but pleasant. The pros: DSM is never prone to be hot and bitey, but every time you rush it becomes flavourless and cigarettish. Something like this I remember of the Gold Block.

At the end of the tin, I’m sure that will never buy DSM again. But cannot say it was a disaster. It’s simply that me smoking the pipe with this flat mixture is a non sense.

There is a claim of scotch added here and it’s definitely detectable however, it’s a highland or speyside addition, raisins and oak. As an Islay drinker, this is tolerable but not what’s preferred. Smokes a bit warm, my tin was perfect, not too moist, not too dry. I do not recommend rubbing out here, load in ribbons, lightly tamp and light. Have patience with this one the best of the flavour is in the mid to last 1/4 of the bowl similar to Davidoff cigars. A nice nutty/tobacco flavor tapering off to the Speyside leather, raisins and oak. Very good room note - no it won’t remind you of your Grandfather and his Dunhill but it won’t upset any who happen to be with you. Classic Davidoff and I wonder if the negative reviews smoked too wet or dry - this one needs and deserves to be perfect to light. It’s worth a try, it’s mild enough to be a daily bowl, and it won’t disappoint. That said, it’s not a feature tobacco or one to highlight in your collection.

Meh. I have very little to say about the bad qualities of this tobacco, but even less about the good qualities. This may be someone's Nirvana and I don't judge those people one whit, but this was just "Meh" to me.
