Very light aromatic from Mac baren. It resembles Captain Black White but it has much less goop to it. It doesn't have loads of flavour but loads well into the pipe an has a nice room note. The concoction of Virginia Black cavendish has a somewhat chocolatey pruney smell. Not my fave from MacBaren but a decent smoke with a fairly good price and easy to find even in my Country - Brazil.

In the current crop of tobaccos in my rotation, this is hands down my favorite. I can't describe it any better than any of the other positive reviews, I think they do a good job of it, and for most part, I agree. Alls I can say is I love the taste, smell, room note, and in particular how well it smokes, not needing constant relighting. This could easily be an every day smoke for me.

When you open a new pouch of this tobacco you are overwhelmed by a very strong chocolate aroma with vanilla undertones and subtle ripe fruit notes that feels a bit chemical. The tobacco itself is on the wet side, and in fact it takes some effort to light up. You might want to dry it a little bit, but to be honest there must be some chemical added as a preservative as the tobacco remained damp inside the opened pouch for a month. During this time the smell and the aroma of the tobacco evolved significantly: over time it lost some of the pungent cocoa smell in favour of the vanilla note; later it evolved again to smell exactly like a slice of Sachertorte (chocolate and apricot) with a dash of cinnamon. I have to confess that two friends of mine who smelled the tobacco in two different occasions both told me that it smelled like liquorice, but I don't really get that note. When smoked the casing doesn't really get through as strong as I believed: the fresh tobacco however delighted me with a beautiful chocolate note that, in contrast with the pouch aroma, didn't feel chemical at all. As the tobacco aged the flavour became more subdued but retained a sweet character; in any case you can detect the nutty and earthy burley base that acts as a background to this blend. It must be noted that this tobacco shall be smoked at a slower pace (otherwise it becomes harsh as usual for many virginia blends), but even in this case it leaves noticeable moisture in the bowl (I could never smoke it to the bottom and very often I had to toss the last quarter of the bowl because it got too damp to be smoked). It also doesn't seem to build any noticeable cake. The room note has been generally very well accepted by my friends, who also loved the smell of the fresh tobacco in the pouch.

Mac Barens answer to Captain Black white. This is a superb aromatic flavor bomb. To me the flavor is rum, raisin, chocolate and vanilla. Coolest smoking aromatic I ever had also the cleanest. No goop ! The black Cavendish in this is made from Virginia not burley so yes the smoke is cleaner but thinner. Wafts of raisiny, rum, chocolate goodness. Light in nicotine, if you're looking for a nic hot move on, this isn't the one. But if you want a cool, dry, sweet smoke with an awesome aroma buy this now.

This wraps up my adventure across the 7 seas.
A rather wide chunky cut. Tin note is fantastic. I smell vanilla/caramel and a hint of some fruity smell, possibly a cherry note? I have learned over the years that for most tobaccos, especially aromatics, it is better to have a tobacco too dry than to wet. I set this out overnight to dry, and I believe it helped greatly with the functionality of the blend. Compared to most tobaccos in this class, it smoked dry well.
Packed pretty easily, but even with all that air time it took a bit to get it going. Taste is a pretty average aromatic taste. These 7 seas blends do have a base note of tobacco that is a little more apparent than their American naval rank based competitors.
As I have said for the other blends in this series. If heavily cased aromatics are your jam, you will love these blends. If like me, you know aromatics are not your thing but damnit, you just have to try every thing you see, you will neither be surprised or disappointed.
I always keep some of these blends around for others. The room note always gets that reminiscent of grandpa reaction. Lets be honest, as much as I only smoke for me, what pipe smoker does not love it when somebody says "that pipe smells so good"?

This blend (like the other Mac Baren 7 seas) is a decent aromatic but nothing all that special. To me, they are the perfect summertime camping blend. Aromatic enough to make those around you notice and enjoy. But just a one note, hit you hard aromatic. No subtlety, nothing really interesting, just sweet baccy. No bite and you really won’t miss much by puffing fast. So jam some in a beat up old pipe and get drunk by the fire. 2.5 stars

A very pleasant surprise. I detected a mild vanilla, with some fruit undertones. I bought this in bulk and the moisture level was just right. The quality of tobacco is exceptional and the casing is mild enough to allow the tobacco to rise to the top. It burned well with few relights. A mild tobacco that could easily be an all day smoke

Flavor Profile: Butter (Creamminess?) + sweetnes (Vanilla maybe?)
Mechanics: Really really Bad - smokes hot, hard to keep lit, and gives a hard thonge bite even with slow breathe method. Caramelizes and gets hard to keep lit and tamp.
Nic intensity: 1/10
I bought this based on reviews and the taste is okay but not what I expected. Room note was okay for my wife which is a good thing because she hates almost all my smokes.
Its something like butter and liqour/vanilla cavendish with no strenght in tobacco flavor, just a tad more than your average 100% cavendish aro, but still I was expecting more intensity (I am an aromatic smoker btw).
But the thing is that it tends to bite because of the moist level. From the tin, its unsmokeable and goopy. I tried letting it dry a couple of minutes but then it burns like crazy hot and tastes way less. So far I tried multiple things to get this tobacco to match the raveing reviews here, but no success.
Overall for a simple butter-like tasting tobacco with bad mechanics there are way better things out there.
Update: I opened the tin and smelled its raisiny sweet smell i love, and thats when I realized why I disliked this so much - tin note is raisiny fruity sweet but smoke tastes like boiling butter. If you want an aro that does match the raisiny fruity tin smell to flavor try Peterson's Connoisseur's Choice.
