I have been trying to pinpoint why I like this aromatic much more than similar blends. Blends of black Cavendish, burley and Virginia tobacco topped with chocolate and vanilla seem to be ubiquitous in most brands' lineups. However, 7 Seas is no Captain Black.

The tobacco itself is pretty mild, but hints of Virginias and Burleys come through. The cocoa topping is at front of the flavor profile with vanilla playing a supportive role—which is one reason why I tend to favor this blend over more vanilla heavy concoctions.

The other reason why 7 Seas Regular has become one of my favorite aromatic blends is that is very well behaved. It packs well and burns clean and not too hot. I just keep coming back to this blend.

This is a very mild tobacco in all aspects.

I smoke only aromatics and I found mac baren 7 seas regular to be a decent but not special or outstanding tobacco. Yes it has quality and it never bites even if you puff hard. Also the room note is very nice (chocolate-vanillia) but at the verge of unnoticeable. I would characterized it being mild-strength both generally and of nicotine (which is something I like by the way). THE negavite thing is that I don't get any taste smoking it, only some hints (real hints!) of black chocolate at first light and at the 2/10 of all my puffs.

It resembles to captain black white but it's less sweet and it has not the candy smell or occasional sugary taste I get from CBW.

I would recommended it for someone that doesn't like heavy aromatics or very sweet tobaccos and wants an all day smoke with low Nicotine.

I got given this from a friend and although he said it was about 10 years old the aroma is still there and is perfect moisture for smoking straight out of the pack.

delicious creamy vanilla and dark chocolate spring from the pack, although there is some tobacco aroma the toppings do come forth the most. The cut is an interesting it's like a wild cut with some nice chunky pieces of Cavendish and ribbons of burley.

filling is easy and it settles itself into a nice mid pace even burn the sweetness, although always there never overwhelms or becomes sickly and even though there is more complex smokes on the market, this fills the gap for a nice dessert smoke perfectly.

All in all a pleasant tobacco, i would buy this again for a nice change of pace, the strength never gets above mild but it is a satisfying smoke.

aromatic fans will enjoy this, and the room note won't offend.

All in all 3 and half stars and another great tobacco from Mac baren.

I bought an ounce of this after reading reviews and I will agree with the positive reviews of this tobacco. The inexpensive price of this tobacco in bulk made me leery but after the first few puffs I knew the reviews didn't lie. This tobak easily stands with some much more expensive offerings from Davidoff and Peterson aromatics, and is outstanding. I smoked my ounce in record time and have not only ordered more of this, but have also order 7 seas black which gets even higher reviews. This is a very tasty, high quality tobacco at a very reasonable price if you stay away from the tins. It is very sweet with a slight hint of fruit like many aromatics. I am hooked and will be adding this and most likely 7 seas black to my ever growing rotation as it is spectacular. I personally found this tobacco to have more flavor out of a briar as opposed to a cob.

This came as a surprise. It's basically a Virginia-cavendish mixed with Burley. It comes a tad moist in the pouch (tins are also available). As many other reviewers have noticed it's virtually impossible to get tongue bite from this very mellow, smooth and easy to smoke aromatic. Unlike other aromatic Cavendish tobaccos I don't believe this is cased, or if it is it's done in the most delicate manner. In fact it has very little flavoi. The coca/vanilla is noticeable but it doesn't occlude the taste of tobacco proper. This is a crowd pleaser. It doesn't goop the pipe and there are few traces left once you clean it. Not bad for a relatively cheap smoke, and a good albeit rather dull change of pase forma natural Virginias o English mixtures. As far as aromatcs go, this one is a good choice.

I get a chocolate-vanilla flavor mixed with a woodsy, natural tobacco taste when smoking it. Yes, it actually tastes like it smells. It's a bit sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Halfway through the bowl, the sweet chocolate/vanilla flavour starts to fade and is replaced by a wonderfully-smooth toasted butter taste, and that woodsy natural tobacco flavour starts to come through even more prominently. Very nice room note, too. You will also get a nice little nicotine hit at the bottom of the bowl.

** Minus two stars because this blend really isn't an all-day smoke. Even after proper drying, it still starts to burn my tongue after 3 or 4 bowls. It would be better if they put less propylene glycol on it like Amphora Red and Rich Aroma blends. Hey MacBaren, lay off the PG!**

Proper dryness and air flow is the secret to getting the most out of this tobacco (and most aromatics). Here's a step-by-step guide on how I recommend smoking it:

1. Properly dry it out. Upon first opening a new pouch, the tobacco will be quite moist. It should be dried some before smoking. I dump the full pouch out on a large plate and spread it thin. I then microwave it on high setting for ~30 seconds. After that, I remove the plate from the microwave and let it air cool for about 45 minutes (more humid conditions will require a longer drying time). Then back into the pouch it goes. This drying out process only needs to be done once for each newly-opened pouch.

2. Gravity fill your pipe just below the top of the bowl. (I recommend unfiltered half-bent pipes for a cooler and more flavourful smoke). When I say gravity fill, I mean dumping the tobacco into the pipe. No packing or pushing. None. Zero. Now after the first gravity fill, lightly tamp the tobacco using only the weight of the tamper. Now gravity fill again a second time to just below the top of the bowl. By filling the pipe this way, you will get maximum air flow. The tobacco will burn better, and the smoke will be cooler and more flavorful.

3. Light the bowl. It will require two or three charring lights. After the second or third charring light, lightly tamp the tobacco down only using the weight of the tamper. Don't push it. Now light it again and it should stay lit for quite a while. I find that matches work best for the charring lights.

4. Dump ash as needed, but don't push down hard with the tamper. Only use tamper weight.

5. Stir it. Near the bottom of the bowl, you may need to stir the tobacco up a bit to burn the last of it.

This reminds me of Captain Black white 30 years ago when it was actually good, at the same time its different.... First off this has got to be the cleanest black based aromatic ever ! It leaves no dottle and cleans up easy with one pipe cleaner. No goop, no sludge. Its mild with a sweet, nutty flavor. The main attraction here is vanilla, with a chocolate overtone. The nuttyness peeks out time to time. It smokes cool and has a pleasant taste and aroma. In many ways its ordinary but a very well done ordinary. Cant complain about it at all, this is a good go to or mainstay tobacco. The Danes know how to do aromatics and Va/ Burley blends best imho. At times this tastes like the now discontinued Honey & Chocolate mixed with Scottish Mixture ?? Others it has its own character. All in all this is a good smoke worthy to have around, two thumbs up !!

Very nice aromatic smoke, mild -but not completely tasteless, this tobacco is good from the start to the end of the bowl. I was reading reviews for Captain Black Regular, which I like but for an OTC is reaching the $10 a pouch mark in California which makes it a "luxury" tobacco and that it ain't, and a couple people mentioned this blend. Not too much complexity but you can taste the nutty and chocolate Burley. My take on this is simple...simple good taste, simple to light and simple to relax with and enjoy!

I can appreciate where MacBaren was going with the 7 Seas blends, taking the aroma and basic recipe of the Captain Black blends but using higher quality tobacco's and top shelf toppings. This and Royal were the best of the bunch with regular having a chocolate and vanilla aroma and taste. If you enjoy the time tested recipe of black Cavendish and burley then this blend is one that is quite tasty and perhaps the best of the genre! Absolutely no nicotine and extremely mild.
