I am glad so many people like this blend, but I can't be counted among them. For me, the bag is great on the nose but has little complexity. One of the earlier reviews compared it to smoking steam, and I have to agree. It is nice that it is so accessible in stores, but I will be finding something stronger to blend it with asap!

hello, Bought 2 packs opened the first one and was greeted with a good aroma , the tobacco was full of PG, ribbon cut and easy to pack into the pipe , it was a problem to light about 4 to 5 times just to get a good smoke you can't even say a sentence without relighting. all i tasted was sweet steam and tobacco ash which i hated (guys this is a tobacco product not vaping for what is all that PG) . i decided to dry it well and tried it in a second attempt anyway the tobacco flavour got better , less steam and less relights but still the taste was dull, monochromatic good thing it didn't bite or got hot.

i want to enjoy my pipe and cb royal wasn't my cup of tea. i don't recommend it.

1 star for not biting. 0 star for taste. 0 star for relights. 0 star for price would not smoke it for free, threw away both pouches.

The only thing good about this blend is that its only slightly better than Captain Black Gold. It has a similar marshmellow taste and room aroma. However, somehow, this bit even worse than CB Gold. Captain Black White is an awesome tobacco, but the Royal left a tongue bite that lasted overnight.

Very nice blend from CB. For a cheaper than other smoke, it does hold to its value. Gives a very pleasant room note, yet the taste is not a disappointment. Smokes well in the bowl, burns at a fairly good temperature, the Cavendish gives a nice sweet smoke alongside some Vanilla aroma.

For a better enjoyment, roll the smoke in the front part of your mouth, around the palate just behind your teeth and on the inside of the lips around the front teeth. If smoked deeper in the mouth, it might generate some pharynx irritation.

Nice blend all in all from CB

No aroma, hard taste, it burns like hell and bites your tongue. I tried for once and throw away the rest. I went out for a relaxing night, grabbed a bottle of beer and started to smoked this one. First puff and bottoms up... bbrraaahhhh

This was the second tobacco I ever smoked. When it bit the hell out of my tongue and was boring and ashey tasting, I put it down to inexperience. But I came back several times, after success with several other tobaccos, and it still bit my tongue, and tasted like ash and dirt. Needless to say, not my favorite tobacco. I won't be buying any more. I much prefer white and gold to this stuff.

Floor sweep. Threw away 3/4 of a bowl and the rest of the pouch (only pipe tobacco I have thrown away). Best enjoyed when thrown in the trash or left in the store.

This pouch was the second of two Captain Blacks I swapped with a friendly American for some St Bruno. This brand is common over the counter tobacco in the States apparently. You can't get in here in the UK unless you order it online.

I liked the White (or Light as it's also known) and the Gold and, assumed this would be a variation of one or both of these.

It isn't.

It's like a big bad evil brother of the aforementioned.

The pouch aroma is promising and similar to the Gold. My oh my was the stuff gooey ? Gooey ? Yep, gooey. Sticky. Sweet and tacky. Like a candyfloss.

Actually it looks and smells like the old sweet tobacco we used to buy as kids back in the 60's and 70's.

A dark brown sweet, sticky, messy and a horror to load. What a disappointment.

The smoke itself isn't that bad but it's a swine to light and keep alight. The obvious conclusion was that this well travelled blend would maybe improve with a drying out.

It didn't.

I couldn't even finish the bowl. It even gave me indigestion. Groo.

If you're in the UK and busting to try CB avoid this one chaps.

A good starter blend, but not something one should stick with in the long run. Have only smoked this with a filter pipe and while the blend does work in a pinch, it is not something I would care to revisit.
