Bought some of this tobacco while I was out and about just to give me something to puff on. Huge mistake. It tasted terrible and left a horrible taste in my mouth for at least ten hours. I would never smoke this again.

Well this made me feel sick. There's something sweet and sour to it that frankly makes me ill. The white is the same. Maybe I am allergic to Cavendish....

I am writing it exactly as I read it.
Captain Black = Marlboro = Coca Cola = Mac Donald
Regardless what you hear, it is true that it is difficult to find the aroma of this tobacco filling the room in another tobacco.

This was one of the first pipe tobaccos I tried as a new piper 2 decades plus ago along with captain black original. The pouch aroma is delightful, A melange of sweet tobacco and vague faint vanilla. The cut is medium ribbon with a mostly light brown color. Some leaves are nearly transparent, and I get the impression that this has either been exceedingly heavily cased, or has propylene glycol added. The room note is incredible. Bystanders almost always love this stuff. Unfortunately there is almost no flavor here whatsoever. This blend is mild to a fault. It’s a lot like sipping hot steam. Not for me, but given it’s long production history and easy availability, it is worth a try for smokers craving a mild aromatic.

Being one of the most reckoned blends from Captain Black line, I indeed had high hopes for this one. But unfortunately it disappointed me a lot.. The taste is quite faint - at least in comparison to CB Regular - and it's extremely moist, wet even. And no matter how long I dry it, it stays moist and can barely be kept lit. It bites quickly, however careful you are. Which is stressful rather than calming.

Not too bad, but still not good.
Compared to some blends that I have tasted, including other drugstore blends, I have come to expect very little with Captain Black, but this one is by far my favorite as it is the least offensive.
It has some flavor, but I can't quite place what exactly they were trying to do with it, as the flavors are mixed and matched in ways that I cannot decipher what is what. It is a cacophony of ????
It's too hard to explain what I taste, and I have tasted it more than once. I rather liked it, but it was not exactly what I have come to expect from a blend of tobacco.
out of 10 i would give it a 4, I would not recommend it to anyone but the man who has a gun pointed to his head, and the only way to get out of it would be to smoke a captain black blend, and also, only has 3 dollars.
Otherwise, I would spend that money on pipe cleaners.

The hypocrisy of certain pipe smokers . . . Most of them will shout far and wide the wonders of Lane's 1Q. I myself hate it. You see, however, that also means that I hate CB Royal. BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME EXACT PRODUCT!! Before someone else posts a review saying that they are different, please do your homework and acquire a sample of each. Once you have, the proof will be right in front of you. It's fine if you like 1Q. Just don't be a hypocrite. You also like CB Royal.

You will want to like this stuff. You can buy it just about anywhere. The smell in the pouch is awesome. It looks nice: ribbon-cut shreds of golden and dark browns. Packs well, but easy to pack too tight. The initial light up is heavenly. Tastes nice. The room note? Most aromatics don't even come close. Big billows of sweet smoke.* But then...
This stuff is a chore to keep lit - it is so moist, probably full of propylene glycol to give it a longer shelf-life, as this stuff can end up sitting on drugstore shelves for months or years. Even in an opened, loosely rolled-up pouch, this stuff stays overly moist for months. Smoke it less than a third of the way into the bowl, and your pipe becomes almost too hot to hold. More than very light, air-filled puffs will get you a harsh bite on the tongue. But if you don't puff hard, it'll go out. A no-win Catch-22.
The last third of the bowl tastes foul, and if you want to smoke though to the end you will use up many matches and risk scorching your briar, not to mention your tongue, until the goopey mess at the bottom just won't stay lit at all.
* If you want a blend with all of the positives mentioned and avoid the negatives, try Lane's bulk 1Q instead (it is usually drier, fresher, and more manageable, without the goopey mess at the end).

I picked some up today based on a popular reviewer’s perspective hoping to find a reliable pouch blend. What a disappointment. I found nothing enjoyably aromatic about this, in fact, it was more reminiscent of a cigarette than anything. In my humble opinion, Super Value is the standard in pouch blends and is far beyond better than whatever this is supposed to be.

To be honest after reading the reviews I thought this was going to pack a punch. It does not. The flavouring is very faint, a little bit of licorice in the tin note, but when lit the flavours of vanilla and everything else are extremely subtle. You can really taste the black cavendish. It's very smooth and creamy and burns slow.
So why 1 star you might ask? Because it tastes like gas station $1 cigarillos.
