Peter Stokkebye Turkish Export (No.84)
(3.50)
Stokkebye’s Turkish Pipe tobacco is a flavorful uncased blend of Turkish Samsun (a legendary Oriental leaf) which is sun-cured and expertly blended with ripe Virginia tobaccos for a complex pleasing smoke. It is lightly aromatic and smooth.
Notes: This comes in 2 cuts - a fine ribbon (in bulk) for pipe, and a fine shag (in pouch) for RYO.

Update....I stand by my previous review but after letting this age for about 6 months to a year the flavor has really matured well. It is deeper and fuller. The spice is still there from the Orientals but the virginia sweetness has come out. I was primarily blending with this when it was fresh but after the age I now really enjoy this by itself and has bumped this up to a 4-4.5 stars.
If you smoke bold or heavy blends this may seems a little thin and flat but if you are an oriental fan you will like this. Just enough virginia to give it a touch of sweetness but not enough to smooth out or hide the oriental. Plenty of fragrant spice and sharpness. A little sour but mostly spicy and salty. If you have had blends with orientals and liked them this is a great way to try them by themselves and really see exactly what they add to a blend. This would also be a great blending component for creating your own blends or a great roll your own tobacco. If it is smoked to fast it gets hot and tastes ashy so pack tight and smoke slow.

I'm not a cigarette smoker so I can't comment on its use as a RYO. But I can say that I would never smoke this in a pipe again. It's about the equivalent of emptying a Camel cigarette into your pipe and lighting up. It burns hot, it burns fast, and an entire pipe-full was ashed in about 15 minutes.
Perhaps it will be good as a blender, but I can't even imagine how it would work that way either.

I was wondering if the "pipe" tobacco was the same as the rolloing tobacco on the Turkish?

Back in the old days (1990s) I enjoyed smoking Camel cigarettes. Didn't usually do the unflitered, but from time-to-time I would. Trying this gave me pleasant memories.
I bought some bulk and put it in a large jar and promptly forgot about it. I found the jar and decided to light it up again. The bulk I got is ribbon not shag cut. A variety of tobaccos are obvious and it seems darker now than when purchased. Easy to pack and light.
The oriental tastes are the stars of the show here for sure. Not as subtle as in most Balkans, but more in your face from beginning to end. In a medium sized bowl, it produces a consistent smoke from beginning to end. Room-note is towards the realm of Camel. Always seems to leave a spicy aftertaste. Nic content seems mild at best.
