A nice sweet, nutty balance is easily achieved with this blend. I consider it the 'comfort food' of tobaccos. Slow draws deliver a cool, dry, buttery smooth sweet/nutty flavor. It's ready to go right out of the pouch, and tastes just as good to the last bowl full, the pg doesn't bother me in this blend. Initially, I used CH to break in new pipes & work out ghosts in estate pipes, but it's now a daily puff. Readily available, priced right, doesn't foul my pipes.

Bumped to three stars, consistently good.

Carter Hall was the first OTC burley that I ever tried. I bought a pouch at a local tobacco shop and really liked the flavor. I was planning on going back to get more, but before I made it to the store, I stopped at a local convenience store to buy some Gatorade before working outside in the hot , humid summer. Lo and behold, there was a display of Carter Hall at the cash register marked fifty cents per boxed pouch. I immediately bought all they had in the store. I've never been without some on hand since.

Carter Hall is a mild to medium burley that just plain tastes good. It can be smoked without any thought directed towards technique if I get busy reading, watching a game on television, working, etc. I have never had it get too hot. I detect a slight fruity smell in the pouch and a slight fruity taste (possibly an apple flavor?) when smoking a bowl. Carter Hall has been around for a long time and for good reason.

At $1.79 per 1.5 oz for the taste of nearly pure, unadulterated burly, how can you go wrong? If you see this at the drugstore - buy it! It is not the foul-tasting stuff that most OTC blends are.

Carter Hall is quite possibly the perfect blend for moments when you want something bite-free that requires no thought about how you are smoking it. This was the perfect blend for vacationing in Las Vegas, when the sensory-overload of that town demanded a low-maintenance blend that smelled decent.

Nothing much to add to the numberous reviews on this one. It's a plain Burley, of which I don't like the topping very much. Not far as good as e.g. Moe's Confetti (a John Patton blend). A nice property of Carter Hall is its ability to really make disasters blends smokebla, this works especially nice with 'over the top', goopy aromatics. Fur this purpose Carter Hall is recommended to have around.

I must say, "Old Puffer" hit his review of this tobacco right on the nose. I think that it is very mild, breaks in a pipe well, is not objectable for any bad scents or flavor and great when your mouth needs a break. I can see why many people had this for a daily smoke. It may be a touch bland but I am not sure I will ever get tired of it now and again.

First of all, there is an ingredient that helps the caking to be created easily in the bowl. It is a classic Drug Store type of tobacco. A strong and bright enough, Burley without any fruit flavor or other wrapping. You can smoke it pleasantly and dry till the end without any undesirable tonque bit of course. Although it starts very sweet, in the end it leaves a bitterness, which some smokers like and some others don?t. It doesn?t bother me. And in the end, I can add some town topic or Kapt?n Brammer?s Windrose DTM and I can make it a sweet all day aromatic tobacco. It burns quite fast. It has a very neutral smell in the air.

Along the lines of Half and Half. Similar in packaging, pouch aroma, cut, and to a large degree flavor. It does, however, show differences from HH, mainly in the topping. It's hard to describe, it's almost as if they are blends meant to compete for the exact same shelf.

Burns cool, lots of natural tobacco sweetness and pleasant room note.

Carter hall burns and lights easily, isn't overly polluted with air fresheners or chemical candy, and you can puff away on it with little thought. Those reasons and that it's under 2 bucks a bag are in my opinion it's best attributes. After you get past the light fruity-floral topping your good to go with a simple smoke. I usually have a pouch hanging around in the work van for those times... The way I see it Carter Hall is so inexpensive and innocuous there really is no reason not to have some on hand.

Votazione: **** + **** + **** e potrei continuare fino a domani mattina. Saluti

Like many of you, I picked up a pouch of Carter Hall purely for nostalgic reasons. It does come nicely packaged with a soft foil pouch. Here in Florida, finding the old drugstore standbys isn?t as easy as it used to be. I went to 5 stores before I found it. Walgreen's has one pipe tobacco- Capt. Black. I guess that says something about pipe smoking in general- it's definitely not as popular as it was in the 70?s when I started smoking Borkum Riff Cherry (ugh) out of a corncob pipe (not recommended). I agree Carter Hall is the better of the drugstore blends, as it seems to be straight-up tobacco, with little casing added. But like its brother Prince Albert, this tobacco seems to lean towards being cigarette tobacco. I've seen many guys use Prince Albert as a rolling tobacco. The appearance and aroma of this blend is agreeable- it?s moist and clean. I really wanted to like this no frills blend- I wasn?t expecting a whole lot- but it tastes bland, and one dimensional. The taste is reminiscent of a cigar, and the room note is cigarette-like. Having said that, I'm sure I would have liked my other old blends even less, but I?m not brave enough to even try those. In summation, if you're looking for something to smoke from the drugstore or supermarket, this one is probably the best of the lot, along with Prince Albert and Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic- good luck finding that one. UPDATE 4-1-08: Ive smoked several more bowls of Carter Hall, and Prince Albert too. I find these 2 similar blends to be pleasant enough. They have a simple tobacco flavor that I'm starting to enjoy more. I suspect this is the type tobacco they make cigarettes with as it smells like cigarette tobacco in the pouch. I find CH and PA a pleasant change of pace when I'm not in the mood for a strong or flavored tobacco.
