The secret component that makes this rustic delight cling to the walls of your pipe has been known, I'm sure, to come out of the wrong end of a sow.
Mutatis mutandis, a horse's detritus might be considered a step up from this thing. Refinement being relative, don't you know.

Better than Granger and way better than Half & Half, this is "high quality" drugstore tobacco, with very little tongue bite and chemical taste.
That said, there are tons of burley blends way better than this one. Even when they are more expensive, we have only one life to try hundreds of tobaccos. Aim for the good ones, and if you're willing to try the rest and you haven't died yet, consider giving drugstore blends a try, and start with Prince Albert, SWR Aromatic and Walnut.

Not a fan of this tobacco. Very one dimensional in that it has no flavor. No nicotine kick for me which would at least give it something. I tried using it to blend with other blends, but even then it brought nothing to the table.

MADE IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC! So much for an American iconic blend. This was a good tobacco, too bad John Middleton's sold us out. I'm very disappointed in their decision to move production over seas. I enjoyed CH very much, one of the best OTC tobacco available. I do not believe I can support them any longer.

When I had this blend I got a really good idea as to why people use it to cut blends, it's very bland. It's a mundane smoke. Not a whole lot going on flavor wise. Yeah it burns fine, but I get better flavor from the water I'm sipping on than I do the tobacco in this blend. If you're looking for a good Burley blend try Mac Baren's HH Burley or Solani's Aged Burley Flake or C&D's Burley No-5. Don't waste your time or palate on this archaic blend.

Never thought of trying carter hall, read some reviews saw it at my local drugstore though meh? Five dollars why not? It has a great aroma kinda like spiced plum pudding. Very good taste light smoke very smooth. Will buy this more often. A follow up the last few pouches I bought are like smoking cigarettes and the flavor ends about half way through. I want to update this I tried it once more. And people asked me if I was smoking cigarettes that's the room note of this nasty rotten floor scrap tobacco.

I grabbed a some of this to try, since in the past I've enjoyed Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic from time to time.
This was not to my liking at all, the pH was out of control, feels like Wasps having a party on my tongue. Dumped the first bowl after a 8 or 9 puffs. Tried it again a few days later, same result. Tried it again about a week later in a different briar, same thing . . . dumped the reminder into the compost pile. Really glad I did not purchase the big tub.

I'm an aromatic smoker and I wanted to try something different. Carter Hall was bland and tasted like cigarettes to me. I detected no sweet virginia tobacco. This also had a little bite and burned very fast. I would only recommend this tobacco if you just like straight burley tobacco taste without complexity.

Burley can bite. Evidently my body chemistry makes it impossible to smoke this.
IF CARTER HALL BITES YOU, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Put simply, I finish the first quarter bowl and have to dump it. Carter Hall bites me more than any other tobacco. It may be a fine, even great tobacco, but not for me.
Russ Ouellette has a great article on Burley from January 2012. He explains why some of us have this problem. The majority of Aromatics bite me, too, and then there is the added heat from the toppings, but even then, not to the degree of Carter Hall.
Woe is me!

Tried this upon reccomdations by other reviewers.Didnot like this one at all! It was very bitter throughout the smoke.I didnot finish the bowl because of that reason. It was easy to light and burned well but became very bitter with in seconds after the light.I would not rcommend this at all.
