Virginia Tobacco with various hues and cuts, delicately rounded with black Cavendish and hint of Burley. Fruity aromas from juicy oranges and sweet peaches. A very smooth, excellent tobacco blend with perfect combustion. In a 50g tin with the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit "Shire" label and brand.

Notes: Inspired by the Lord of the Rings epic and The Hobbit series by Tolkien. The Vauen company was commissioned to make the pipes for the LOTR series and as I understand, the HOBBIT series as well. These pipes and tobacco are as I understand, a limited series. Get them while you can!

Vauen Auenland – The Shire – is one of these tobaccos making me regret that I decided to base my reviews on more than a single bowl. You will get an intense aromatic that was probably developed for non-pipe smokers (paradox) and fans of the movie series, of course. After trying Auenland – The Shire they will most likely stay non-pipe smokers. The tin note is very sweet peach ice tea, not home made, but the cheap kind containing plenty of artificial sweetener. The tobaccos presented in mixed ribbon cut feel moist and spongy.

Other than that, the presentation is done well and filling the pipe is easy. Without prior drying, first light was not easy. Drying out a fresh tobacco to proper moisture is not an issue for most of us, quite normal in fact, but I expected the mixture to be ready according the target group addressed.

The taste is predominantly the intense artificial peach ice tea, accompanied by a sour, slightly bitter note (orange?). Taste of tobacco was not to be found, more like flavored hot air. If you apply a regular draw that will fit any pure VA for it not to bite, this one will collapse to an evil sour, bitter and bity horror. As a rule I don’t throw tobacco away, but this one is will. I recommend using a filter with it or anything providing a minimum amount of protection.

Pipe Used: Several briars with and without filter

Age When Smoked: fresh to 1y

Just bought this today after reading the review. It taste like the description. You could just walk away from it. There's nothing writen on the tin, no description ...nothing. but boy i found my blend. I was hooked to the St Patrick 2015 blend from Peterson. This i think is better. Sweet mild to medium. Room note fantastic. Behavior of lit tobacco-expand and create fluffy ash but u get clean finish in the bowl nothing get stuck inside the bowl like some aromatic with heavy flavour. This one flavour is nice but not sticky. Overall 5 thumbs up for me.

Pipe Used: Vauen Basic and Big Ben classic

Age When Smoked: 45

Purchased From: Kamelah

Similar Blends: Peterson St Patrick 2015 special but this is curly cut instead of cube. More flavourful and taste and aroma last longer than Peterson.

This review is for The Hobbit series with an Auenland pipe Gilg (rustic). Aromatic tobacco, smoked in a churchwarden-style pipe. Both are Vauen, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series "Auenland" pipe and tobacco. If you want to hang with Gandalf,... "YOU; SHALL NOT;;;PASS!!!!!!" Cool huh?

Pipe Used: Auenland; Gilg

Purchased From: Stuben Pfeifen_Heck Hanau

Similar Blends: I've smoked MacBaren, Black Ambrosia for years and this blend has become my new favorite. Mild and fresh with a fruity, yet warm vanilla, caramel/date room note. If you want to wisit Hobbiton and smoke with Bilbo and Gandalf, Buy an Auenland Pipe by VAUEN and get the official tobacco to go with. I'm going to light up another bowl right now!, Mac Baren - Black Ambrosia.

This tobacco has a wonderful tin and room note. It burns well and has a nice mild sweet flavor, pretty much exactly like the description. It will definitely ghost your pipe. Seems to be good quality, but I find Burley very drying, so I prefer other blends that don't use it.

Just started pipe smoking. Was advised to try this tobacco as a first. Took me a couple of bowls to see how it smoked best. In the beginning I smoked it to fast and then it tasted like ash.. very unpleasant! I feel if its smoked too hot this stuff just tastes nasty. After a week with it now I feel Ive sussed it out. Has a great taste when smoked cool. And a lovely room note. get allot of compliments when out and about. Tobacco was a bit to wett when first opened, so it kept going out. Now its perfect and only have to relight once. I think this is a great starter Tobacco! Really looking forward to try new ones!
