Dunhill Ready Rubbed (re-release)

(2.94)
Dunhill Ready Rubbed pipe tobacco is a mixture of mature, flue-cured leaves from the USA, Brazil and Africa are blended with sun-cured and smoky fired tobaccos from Indonesia and India. These are then pressed into cavendish and topped with a subtle flavour.
Notes: In addition to BB1938 and Three Year Mature, Dunhill Ready Rubbed is the third vintage Dunhill blend re-introduced to the U.S. market in 2015. Based on Virginia and Oriental, it's run through a light cavendish process, cased with a subtle fruity topping, and steam pressed before it's broken up into the beautiful ready rubbed cut.

Tin note of dry sour vegetation, mild spices, and a very mild sweet. Tobacco is dark brown and light brown Ready Rubbed. Moisture content is great, larger flake pieces may need further rubbing. Burns slow with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild to medium, with notes of citrus sweet. Flavoring is fairly out front in the first 1/4, then moves to the background. Taste is mild to medium and consistent, with notes of toasted bread, wood, herbal spices, sugar, dry grass/hay, earth, floral, spicy, sweet savory stewed fruit, acidic, lemon zest, slight bitterness, a tart and tangy citrus background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Oriental/Turkish supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is good.

No muerde. No se apaga ni genera humedades excesivas. Un tabaco tranquilo, suave y sabroso, ideal para fumar hasta cansarse. Viene con buena humedad, cortado en flake roto y desmenuzado.

This is one of the Dunhill tobaccos that was not replicated by Peterson.

The tin note strongly reminds me of some other tobacco that has passed through my hands before, but I can't remember what it was. However, I suspect it might be Ye Old Signe, also from Dunhill, which had a faint aroma of tea.

Ready Rubbed smokes nice and fresh, with a hint of citrus due to the light coverage, to the point where I would define this as semi-aromatic rather than aromatic. It can produce some humidity, even smoking at a medium rate. The oriental ones are noticeable throughout the smoke, but they are not predominant but companions.

It could be a nice summer smoke, but it's also quite nice the rest of the year. Although it is not one that you will go to with your mouth watering, it is also true that it never disappoints. In all the pipes it offers what you are looking for. Three firm stars, not one more, not one less...

I suppose RR would be an average All Day smoke. The cut combines partially rubbed - out flakes with Ribbon cut, which makes it ready to be packed in the pipe without much further rubbing out. The citrus casing was still present in the tin note and in the taste as well as a discernable spiciness offered by the Orientals. The tobacco had not darkened much over time. Overall, a rather pleasant tobacco but which lacks depth of taste which was a bit surprising considering the tin was 5 years old.

When I started smoking a pipe again early in the year, I was looking for something mild and mellow and I found it in the Dunhill Ready Rubbed. I picked up a tin of it at a local brick and mortar store, mainly for the Dunhill name and what the label described. I knew that I liked Virginia's and that is the base in this tobacco.

When I opened the tin I was met with this inviting grass and hay-like aroma and I packed a bowl to try it out. I know that it is classified as an "aromatic" but in my opinion it is just a Virginia forward blend and I can't taste the fruity items that other reviewers have mentioned. The bowl lit easily and remained lit the entire bowl and left a nice white ash at the bottom of the bowl. The room note is very mild and dissipates within 30 minutes or less. The taste is very mild as well which is what I was looking for and lasts for a few hours on the taste buds. This would make a good all day smoking tobacco in my opinion.

Over the past eight months I have tried about ten or twelve other tobaccos and I keep coming back to Dunhill Ready Rubbed and I am working on my fourth tin right now. It is my favorite tobacco and I have stocked up enough for several years to come in case I can't find it in the coming years.

I would highly recommend this tobacco if you are looking for a nice all day smoke or one that gives you a little more than a straight Virginia. It is definitely worth trying and it seems to still be readily available on the websites. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

My wife picked this one up a while back. Not a bad blend for an aromatic. The topping is used judiciously and really is a very nice addition to the quality tobaccos used in this blend. The tin note and room note are not overbearing in any way. You may even get a compliment or two about the room note. The moisture level is just about right for lighting up right out of a just opened tin, although there will be some that will let it out to dry for a bit. All in all a recommended blend.

I do not taste the orentials as they are an afterthought. The Virginias seem to lack any age. This can be bitter if pushed. Nic hit is below medium. I think this would be better if cellared for a few years. Didn't ring any bells for me. Happy Smoking- Lager (formally budman)

A fruity smoke, due in large part to the topping. The Virginias dominate with some fruitiness of their own as well as later notes of bread and earth. The Orientals give an occasional sour note. The Burley can only be identified through a nondescript bass note. Has a slight harshness on the retrohale. The best feature is the persistence of the topping which lasts till the end. 2 stars.

Mild to medium in body and taste. Flavoring is mild. Burns very well.

Neutral and natural. In my opinion in this blend you can taste a real tobacco taste. No sugar, no flavoring no topping. However this mixture is lacking in taste, the virginia is poor, with a weak taste. Insufficient personality and no complexity. So, from the side of the purity, of the natural tobacco, this blend is ok and the score is three stars, but from the side of the taste in my opinion the score is only two stars (the average is two stars and a half).

Over the years I have enjoyed many of the Dunhill blends. My favourites being Dunhill Flake, MM 965, Early Morning Pipe, Aperitif, Durbar and BB1938. But the re-introduction of Ready Rubbed disappointed me a bit. No doubt, good quality leaf has been used. Can't fault things like moisture, tin presentation etc. As always with Dunhill these things are spot on. But the blend lacks body and personality. Will not buy again.
