Peter Stokkebye Black Coffee

I decided to try PS Black Coffee after getting a blend that was a mix of 2 other tobaccos from a local shop. I enjoy the blend, but it is more of a creamy coffee & I wanted something with more coffee taste. I enjoy smoking this straight & blended with other tobaccos.

When you open the bag you get a nice buttery caramel coffee smell. It's a mix of good burley & vrginia with some smaller bits of black cavendish mixed throughout. The tobacco is drier than most aromatics, but still has enough moisture to bite if you puff too hard. It takes a couple lights to get going, but stays lit well if you keep a good cadence. The bag aroma compared to the smoking experience seems backwards. The black coffee is the main flavor with a slight hint of the buttery caramel that you smelled. It burns down fairly well leaving very little dottle or wetness in the pipe. The room note is a pleasant smell of coffee, but you also get some tobacco aroma as well.

As for mixing, this works well with PS Black Cavendish, I have a jar I mixed 50/50. You can try whatever amount you want to add for some vanilla flavoring to your coffee. I also enjoy adding a small pinch PS Dark Fired into the Black Cavendish Coffee mix, it gives a nice smoky nuance to the blend. You could also try whiskey, amaretto or whatever you may like in your coffee. Enjoy!

Shockingly few reviews on this one, so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring.

Got this on whim, swayed by the following justifications: 1) it was 20% off at smokingpipes.com 2) it was very inexpensive by the ounce, so I couldn't resist (and got 2 whole ounces!) 3) I love coffee.

Regarding that last point, I really didn't have any grand expectations that it would really smell or taste like the wonderfully fresh-roasted beans I craft and quaff. But I reckon I'd give it a try anyway.

The pouch note is very caramelly, though perhaps a bit reminiscent of Irish cream or Kahlua (especially fancy lattes infused with those syrups). But NOT just plain black coffee.

Smoking this, however, was a very pleasant surprise. I think the Virginias in this blend are the most prominent, and fortunately quite detectable despite the casing. Very sweet and light. I wouldn't mind smoking them without the flavorings.

But then once smoking through a bowl, I found the aftertaste perhaps the best part. No bite, and nearly undetectable nicotine ... and the nicest, albeit faint, coffee notes. Yes, even straight black coffee (the way God intended it to be drunk).

Works wonderfully well blended with your favorite (complementary) aromatic (I recommend 1-Q, RLP-6 or Stokkebye's Natural Dutch Cavendish), but also when mixed with non-aromatic blends. Give it a whirl. You'll be glad you did.

This one really does hit the mark of black coffee. Has a good flavor, though not always of coffee at all. Decent tobacco flavor comes through without overpowering the flavor of the coffee or cocoa or whatever it is you can taste. This one is really good along with a real cup of "black coffee" and to me doesn't offend or make your pipe stink. I could smoke a lot of this.

Don't try to make me happy... you're not coffee.

But it does taste like coffee! The topping is the main player here, as it should be with an aro. I agree with others that have commented that it has an underlying creamy vanilla taste to it, so maybe not black coffee, but it definitely is coffee - the way I like it. I did not pick up on the flavor on the first bowl, but I think it was masked my morning cup of Joe! The second bowl was much better. The Virginia is detectable, not so much the burley, and the black cav adds the vanilla to the blend. Burns well, fairly consistent taste to the bottom of the bowl. The room and pouch note both have a mild coffee scent. Mild nic-hit - wouldn't be interesting if it had more nicotine to add the jolt received from coffee? But then it wouldn't be an all day smoke

Drier than expected for an aromatic. Thus it stays lit easily. I don't find it sweet. No nicotine noticed. No gurgle. Just a tobacco and black coffee flavor. After smoking, the flavor of coffee lingered on my tongue.
