Peterson University Flake
(2.98)
Peterson's University Flake features a traditional mix of Virginia and Burley tobaccos that are slowly pressed for days into cakes of tobacco and then sliced into delicate flakes. A subtle plum flavor further enhances this remarkable blend.
Notes: Originally manufactured in Ireland by Murray, it is currently blended in Denmark by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.

This truly is a great tobacco. Lots of reviews on here claim that there is no flavor in this tobacco, however I detect a whole lot of flavor, very natural and straw like and it is quite delicious!

I've always enjoyed this flake, from the top of the topping to the bottom of the bowl.
With most flakes...in fact with just about any tobacco...I tend to fill a few pipes and smoke them the next day, giving the tobacco plenty of time to dry sufficiently. This seems to give me pretty well trouble-free puffing and University Flake rewards such preparation with a meaty, fruity at first then full bodied smoke.
Seems appropriate too tonight, as my daughter has just got a 1st in English from the University of Leicester:-)
I am a happy dad.

A little too harsh, although not that strong in nicotine. I prefer to roll it into a ball, and it normally only requires a few relights. The blueberrish flavour is not my cup of tea-

I love how divisive this blend has been for the reviewers here. It sort of reminds me of a T.S. Eliot poem I studied in a smokeless room at University... Ah, never mind.
Taken at face value, this is a lightly cased blend of various Virginias with a little bit of Burley squeezed in to take away the sheen of gentility. The forest berry topping is mild in the tin. Though I'm not a committed smoker of aromatics, I certainly do enjoy that class of tobaccos on occasion. The thing that is most appealing about UF is that the berries are plenty subtle enough to miss at various times during a bowl. I have the luxury of smoking while working at my desk and when I'm focused on my work, I feel like I'm smoking a straight Virginia. When I kick back and ponder and wander, those little wild berries pop up and smile. When I'm tired, the Burley bats the beast off my back.
I think this could have been called Chameleon Flake.
Not that it matters, of course. This is high quality tobacco blended by someone with a deft and light touch. If I had to choose just one baccy for all time, this subtle number would definitely make the short list.

A lovely tobacco - and the first of which I can say I would make my all-day smoke. I lightly rubbed a little out and it lasted through two Sherlock Holmes adventures - Smells like pipe smoke "should" smell and not too big a Nicotine hit. Certainly a "thinking man's smoke" - no doubt where the "University" bit comes from! - Well recommended

A simple, straight-forward smoke. Not much to add to that. Some days it might almost make three stars, but usually I want more adventurous flavours from my smokes.

There's plenty of reviews on this tobacco already so here are three words to describe it for me:Boring, Bland and Harsh ***Steer way Clear from here*** Prep. (One pro here,You might wish to purchase this blend on the merits of the attractive tin in which it's packaged)

There are already many interesting reviews on this tobacco, so I will spend just few words. It smells really 'artificial' compared to a good Virginia flake, it is quite difficult to smoke (expecially outside) and reminds me the awful taste of a cigarette. What else? Ah, yes, something like 10? for a 50g tin. I'm really disappointed!

I'm a college professor (and somewhat of a flake), but I still don't have much of an affinity for this blend. I agree with those who complain of its harshness. That coupled with my disdain for any fruity tones makes this a hard sell. The flavor, beyond the cherry undertones is not too bad, nothing extraordinary beyond a simple tobacco taste (though the aftertaste is somewhat harsh). But this packs a punch on the strength level--more nicotine than I like.
Though I do seem to be overly harsh on their tobaccos, I still hold the house of Peterson in high regard, and stand by their Old Dublin blend. Try that, and you'll see why Peterson is one of the best tobaccos around. As for the U Flake, I'd say try it, as I will in the future, but don't expect great things.
