Missouri Meerschaum Missouri Pride

(3.09)
Missouri Pride is the kind of blend that most pipe enthusiasts would associate with the Missouri Meerschaum corn cob experience. This is a blend of superb quality burleys with some Virginias added, and minimal top flavoring. The blend is made up of broken flake, with some ribbon cut burley, for a nice, even burn, and the flake processing adds a deeper flavor to the tobacco. For a smooth blend with real tobacco flavor you can enjoy all day long, try a pouch of Missouri Pride.

Missouri Meerschaum - Missouri Pride.

The flake has been reduced to mainly coarse ribbons, but a decent amount of it can be identified as broken flakes. The biggest problem, in my pouch, is the moisture. Sadly it could do with being better hydrated. The smell from it's lead by the Burley.

The flavour's quite nice. At first, the Burley takes the leading stance, without question; having an unrefined, coarse, taste. But, as the bowl burns down a Virginia sweetness joins in; gaining weight as a bowl is smoked. After about a third the two are even. The temperature's on the warm side; due to the dryness. This lack of hydration also increases the speed. I get no tongue bite.

Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: not great.

Missouri Pride? Due to it arriving dry I'll only somewhat recommend it:

Two stars.

It's a bold tasting tobacco, being Burley based I feel as if it's Missouri Meerschaum's take on prince George with a slightly light tone compared. Making it an excellent everyday smoke for the Burley lover.

Bought a pouch with a new Wizard Cobbit. My first take was that it was too dry. Smoked OK, easy light, easy burn, mild smoke with a little nip or tang. Thought I’d humidify it a bit but having done that, I see that it’s not needed. When slightly humidified, it tends to be slightly steamy and burns hotter, is more difficult to keep lit. I didn’t add much moisture either, just enough to get the ribbon cut a little more flexible. I suggest smoking it on the dry side. It’s a good mild burley with barely discernible sweetness and won’t overwhelm you with strong aroma or heavy taste. Overall a good, easy smoke for anytime of day. Good with breakfast coffee or short car trips. Clean burning, no moisture in the bowl, burns to nothing but fine ash. Just good ol’ plain tobacco, at its best in a MM General or other large narrow bowl. No filter needed for moisture or particles. Very likable stuff. I’d say that old timers would like it best as it’s unpretentious taste and character are very enjoyable.

Deep Burley flavor that is distinctly nutty, with a very faint cocoa edge. Sweet Virginia in perfect balance keeps you pulling -- to draw-in the full, creamy smoke. Plenty of flavorful, natural sweetness without OTC aromatic nonsense. No downside issues. This pushes all other codger Burleys to the back of the shelf.

Typical burley taste with an occasional sweetness from the Virginias. I really like this blend. I wish they sold it in bulk. Easy to light and stays lit. The only drawback is it sometimes turns sour near the bottom of the bowl. No bite either.

I love this blend. I could smoke this all day, every day. The burley provides the body to the smoke and the virginia gives a sweetness that lasts to the bottom of the bowl. It's not too heavy and absolutely no bite. Just a delight to smoke.

Straight up burley is what you get here. Description says Virginia, OK, maybe a pinch. Topping? I didn't find it. This is a good, old fashioned, monochromatic, stuff-your-pipe-and-sit-on-the-porch-whittling-a-stick-Burley. Three stars by itself but really shines, IMO, as a blender for all those sweet aromatic cavendishes at the candy store. Mixed at half or even two thirds rate MP you can mellow out the topping and really boost the natural flavor and N content of your smoke. After several of these experiments with straight Burley and aromatic cavendishes, I'm thinking I may be mixing my favorite blends instead of finding my favorites by trial and error from other people's blends.

This is a chunky burley with a little Virginia added. There is a slight sweetness from the casing which is very lightly applied. It burns cool and mild from start to finish. It has a light sweetness and is very gentle. This is a delicious blend that tastes great bowl after bowl. Russ has done it again. I rub it out slightly before loading. This is also excellent when mixed 60% MP to 40% Country Gentleman from the same blender.

Tin note of spices, dark chocolate and peaty vegetation. Tobacco is a ready rub of light brown, brown and dark brown. Moisture content is ok. Some pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of zesty vegetation, spices, woody, floral, dry hay, molasses, spicy, very earthy rich, mild lemon grass, sugar, savory, bready, slight bitterness, a semi sweet nutty background note, and a peppery retro. Burley is leading with Virginia supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is good.

A good lightly topped burley flavor. A little mild to taste for me, mixing in a little haunted bookshop would be great (but I smoked it all). As are all the MM pouch tobaccos, this one would be a great introduction to this type of blend, or if you are seeking a more mild flavor than its cousins.
