Always the tongue-bite with MacBaren. Could they manufacture a tobacco that does not bite, I wonder? I cannot remember to have ever finished a pouch of MacBaren tabacco. For those who like the english, not recommended.

Mmmmm....second bowl of this Mixture...just one after a Mymixture 965...oh boy, this is a cigarette smoking tobacco like Orlik ...or at least similar...aromatic? First bowl smoked after a Blue Note , and oh boy , not really, no... Bites, gets hot yes...maybe too much...

BUT .... there is something pleasurable starting from half bowl till the end...some aromas , some taste here and there...room note is mild but nothing so great....

Even tho, I will give it 2 stars with an exception to try it for a while. Looks like there's a hidden little treasure there to be tamed. Far away from any of the Mac Baren HH line products.

Smoke it slow as You can, otherwise it will not forgive you at all.

This tobacco I suppose is nice for newbies or people switching to a pipe from cigarettes.

Edit -- 14/6

I was packing the pipe in the wrong way (with these infamous 3 steps ) that's why i didn't felt anything...now with the pipe packed carefully i tasted the creamy variegated aroma of this great blend and quickly reached 3 stars! Absolutely great and no more bites and burns!

Edit 07/02/22

I finished my tin of this. For sure I will go ahead with HH line of MacBaren (Old Dark Fired, Bold Kentucky etc.. that's a great somoke. ) but I will not buy it anymore. Yes somehow is tasty , but just not for me. 1/10 bowls gives the right satisfaction..not in my rotation anymore.

Decreased to 1.5 stars.

This tobacco is a riddle which I cannot solve...

First attempt: out of the tin... nice honey smell, looks like a left over collection of tobacco.... no taste only tongue bite

Second attempt: drying for 1 hour... nice honey smell, looks like a left over collection of tobacco.... no taste only tongue bite

Third attempt: 4 months later... nice honey smell, looks like a left over collection of tobacco.... hmmmm there is a nice note to the smoke, tongue burn no, sweet and mellow but still not great...

After third attempt tried different pipes and found that it behaved well and tasted better in an old Jean Claude Shape 03 Churchwarden than in any of the other pipes. Reason might be that the smoke cools down more?

After the initial tongue problems I was lighting up and drawing very carefully already but it seems that did the trick more than anything else...

I still do not know what to make of this tobacco... but it is definitely not for me... well there is still plenty left in the tin... so I will give it a go again in a few months and see what happens...

Pleasant aroma and lightly sweet taste. I have a jar of this mix that is from 2003. I too try this tobacco out every few years, and it continues to make my mouth feel like I've been inhaling from a glass blowing tube. It certainly smells nice and has an excellent taste. I just can't get past the tongue bite.

I smoked this pipe this year (2014-2015) and I couldn't have a distinctive taste or flavor. And I couldn't feel the virginia flavor from this tobacco. So I do not recommend this tobacco if you search for a predominant aroma.

I've bought this blend in 2012 in Switzerland, in a pouch, not a tin... at an average price for common drugstore tobaccoes. More thin cutted and less moist than other SMs, has less scent too.

Aroma: less than average SMs (i.e. Davidoff, Comoy's, & co.)

Taste: less than average SMs; and not so much satisfaction...

Room note: it can be boring, but.. less than other SMs

Burning: not really fast, but faster than usual SMs

Best Briars: I've a number of my best Castello, Comoy's, Savinelli, and so on pipes, exclusively dedicated to EM, Balkan and SM blends, but I preferred to use for this tobacco normal pipes, in fear it can dilute the superb taste they deserves...

Not really bad, not really good. If you like Scottish style mixtures, you can choose some better; it's by me, of course.

I have now smoked several Mac Baren offerings and will not review them any further since they are extremely not to my liking. If interested in my thoughts about their line of tobaccos then just see my review on Burley London, it pretty much sums up this vapid weed give or take a slight aromatic difference (vanilla, cherry etc...).

The worlds best selling pipe-tobacco? Well I sure don't get it. I absolutely love the tin aroma and the room note is to die for. But where is the taste? And I've tried so many times with this tobacco, as would really love to like it. I find it hard to light and smoke. Needs several relights and makes the bowl way hotter than I' care for, and this goes for basically all of my pipes. I've tried and tried and..

Maybe it's just me, but I've no beef with any other tobacco like this one. It simply won't be smoked by me.

Ready rubbed for ya, with loose cut sweet cavendish, but that does not help me at all.

Sweet scent of honey, corn and raisin - but I don't think the taste lives up to it.

Do try it though, 'cause if it really IS the most selling tobacco, it's gotta be for someone. I just miss nicotine, taste and smoking ability way too much to enjoy. So now I've boxed it with other aromatics to sit for a couple of years. In my own voting system I give it a 3/10

A bland and uninspiring smoke. Only one star from me for this one. It is something to smoke if there isn't anything better around, not unbearable or unsmokeable, just boring.
