Vauen Auenland - The Shire

(2.62)
Virginia tobacco of different shades and cutting widths, delicately rounded off with ripe, dark Cavendish and a hint of Burley. Fruit aromas of juicy oranges and sweet peaches give this mixture its delicious taste. An extremely gentle, excellent mixture with perfect burn.

Lo! What's that I see ahead? A green, misty valley. What's that I hear? The distant trickling of water, a shady brook. After trudging through miles of barren, dry land, this scene was a sight to behold. With an almost empty canteen, and a bone dry clay pipe in my back pocket, I marched on, into the mysterious verdant valley. I had images of elves racing about my feet as I stepped to—the little rascals were pulling at my pant leg and knocking my boots with their tiny fists. Call me, Gulliver.

My nerves tingled as I walked through the mist. The land was green, with tall emerald grass, and low dark trees everywhere I looked. But, wait! What's that I see in the distant meadow? A gray colored object, just off the trail. Why, it's a stone slab, a table. Reminiscent of something you'd see on the Plains of Salisbury. An archaic object, to be sure.

As I approached, an object came into focus. There, sitting atop the roughly hewn slab was a tin—a tin of tobacco! I couldn't believe my good fortune. My greedy hand grasped onto the tin, but it wouldn't budge. No matter what I did, I couldn't doff the bloody thing. While pondering what to do, something quite unexpected happened. A tall bearded man attired in animal skins walked out from behind a nearby tree! He blew into the hollowed out horn of an auroch, the grunting, choppy moan of his horn sent shivers down my spine.

"I am Sigismund! Velcome to Auenland. Plees place twelf euro on zee palm of mine hand and zee tobacco vill be yours!"

My ice cold pipe needed kindling, so I couldn't help but dig deep. I gave the man exactly twelve euros. As I coated his hand with silver, a wide toothy grin broke out on his face. He suddenly closed his hand tight over the money, turned around, and beat a hasty retreat into the nearby woods, never to be seen again.

So, there I was, alone in Auenland, with an unexpected tin of pipe baccy. This time, my hand plucked the tin off the table. I pried open the tin and, giddy as a teenager, stuffed my nose directly in. The rose was unlike anything I've ever experienced. It was an odd, mysterious scent; what was it? It tickled my menthol detector, first off. Just a hint. But, what else? Man, I've been smoking a pipe for many a year, and I've come across nothing like this before. The scent of this blend is heady, perfumey, sweet, and frankly, obnoxious. Clearly an aromatic. The colors of the tobacco ran the gamut and it was spongey to the touch.

Well, I threw caution to the moist Auenlandian wind and fired up a bowl. One puff, and my mouth went completely dry. A thick, toxic cloud of smoke hung in the air. What, in God's name, is in this weed? The taste was horridly interesting. Wait. What's that on my tongue? A hot poker? A needle, a pin? I slowed my cadence, it improved. But, then, Sigismund's smile popped into my head. His smile quickly turned into a laugh. A demonic, red-faced, joke of a laugh!

In a panic, my head began to spin. I smashed my pipe onto the stone table. Clay shards and red hot ash flew every which way. I dropped the tin aside and ran, bypassing the clear cold stream on my way out of the valley.

You know, just because your pipe is empty, it doesn't mean you have to stuff it with just any old thing. Sometimes, just sometimes, keep your dice safely tucked away and just walk on.

Keep on pipin'

Just bought this today after reading the review. It taste like the description. You could just walk away from it. There's nothing writen on the tin, no description ...nothing. but boy i found my blend. I was hooked to the St Patrick 2015 blend from Peterson. This i think is better. Sweet mild to medium. Room note fantastic. Behavior of lit tobacco-expand and create fluffy ash but u get clean finish in the bowl nothing get stuck inside the bowl like some aromatic with heavy flavour. This one flavour is nice but not sticky. Overall 5 thumbs up for me.

This review is for The Hobbit series with an Auenland pipe Gilg (rustic). Aromatic tobacco, smoked in a churchwarden-style pipe. Both are Vauen, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series "Auenland" pipe and tobacco. If you want to hang with Gandalf,... "YOU; SHALL NOT;;;PASS!!!!!!" Cool huh?

I was visiting a smokers' round table at my local tobacoonist's shop. They had a tin of this open for trying, and an acquaintance of mine recommended the blend, so I decided to give it a try. I am personally a big fan of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, but would never have bought this tobacco on that basis. Let's not judge those who might try this for that reason, though, since the popularity of the motion pictures has led to a small renaissance of pipe smoking! Auenland - The Shire is a typical aromatic blend. It is ribbon cut with a nice mix of colors - black, brown, red, and tan. The tin note is pleasantly sweet. I didn't pick up on the peach (see other reviews here), but did detect a slight hint of coconut and citrus. The moisture content was a bit on the dry side, but then I have no idea how long ago this tin had been opened. The tobacco packs well, only needing a charring light and a second match. It burns nice and cool, with no danger of tongue-bite. The smoke is of medium body, with a pleasantly sweet taste for the smoker. I think the flavouring is just right for an aromatic. The room note is very nice and certain to please non-pipe-smokers. I think that this would be a good fit for novice pipe smokers, and it is a nice smoke for lovers of aromatics. If you love English blends, then this is not for you!

at first a very interesting and peachy tobacco with very strong aroma and taste, but unfortunately after smoking half of the tin i could'nt bring myself to smoke anymore of this since simply put the flavouring is too strong.

on opening the tin the smell of peaches and fresh fruit is almost overwhelming. The tobacco tends to smoke very hot if you dont take care, also it smokes very wet. a subtle drying out of the rub before packing the pipe is definately recommended.

deriving from the branding and the LotR line of Pipes from Vauen i guess this tobacco was created to lure new pipe smokers into the hobby, but honestly thats all this tobacco is good for since most of them will either move on to better tobaccos or stop smoking pipes at all.

Vauen Auenland – The Shire – is one of these tobaccos making me regret that I decided to base my reviews on more than a single bowl. You will get an intense aromatic that was probably developed for non-pipe smokers (paradox) and fans of the movie series, of course. After trying Auenland – The Shire they will most likely stay non-pipe smokers. The tin note is very sweet peach ice tea, not home made, but the cheap kind containing plenty of artificial sweetener. The tobaccos presented in mixed ribbon cut feel moist and spongy.

Other than that, the presentation is done well and filling the pipe is easy. Without prior drying, first light was not easy. Drying out a fresh tobacco to proper moisture is not an issue for most of us, quite normal in fact, but I expected the mixture to be ready according the target group addressed.

The taste is predominantly the intense artificial peach ice tea, accompanied by a sour, slightly bitter note (orange?). Taste of tobacco was not to be found, more like flavored hot air. If you apply a regular draw that will fit any pure VA for it not to bite, this one will collapse to an evil sour, bitter and bity horror. As a rule I don’t throw tobacco away, but this one is will. I recommend using a filter with it or anything providing a minimum amount of protection.

Fresh blend has sweet fruity aroma from toping after opening. Difficult to recognize which fruit. It was very artificial for me. Background aroma is vanilla and chocolate. (from cavendisch I suppose) Tobacco need a time to dry. Leave significant moisture and dottle. Aroma sublimate quickly after lighting. Than there is no taste inside of bowl, just warm air. (ok, little vanilla aftertaste remains) It needs several relights. No tongue bites occurs.

I was gifted an ounce of this from a friend and I am very impressed. It smells deliciously of peaches and cream and the moisture was perfect, requiring no drying time. Once lit I tasted mostly vanilla cream with a nice light peach undertone, akin to a slice of cheesecake with a couple of slices of peach on top. Not much tobacco flavor unfortunately, as that would have given this a fourth star, but very tasty anyway. Auenland is a delightful blend for a dessert bowl in the evening and would also be very well received in mixed company as the room note is very pleasant.

At the moment. I tend to smoke aromatics and I have to say this is one of my favorites. It is a very high quality and a well thought out and balanced blend. I get mostly peaches and cream and some candied orange peel. I've tried this mixture with and without filter and I have to say I enjoyed it more thoroughly without a filter. It needs a bit of drying before packing after which it burns well and cool, with no tongue bite. There are notes of caramel and dried dates and a nuance of nuts (pecan perhaps). It is highly enjoyable, and not cloying like many aromatics.

When opening the tin you find moist, ribbon cut Virginias with some black Cavendish sprinkled throughout.. but more Virginia. Has the unmistakeable scent of peaches, and a little nuttiness. Needs to be dried initially a bit whether on a tray or in your pouch. Pack it very loosely on bottom and you will be rewarded with a sweet, soft and richly scented smoke. You can taste the peaches and perhaps almonds. The nuttiness really comes through in the smoke. A very high quality tobacco carries these flavors well and mixes with the Virginia and Cavendish perfectly. A great, light smoke that pairs well with coffee and leaves your pipe incredibly sweet and a room note that I don't think would offend even the pickiest.

I had to change my rating to only 2 stars because it severely ghosted my pipe with a medicinal peach flavor, that when removing the cake later in an attempt to remove this ghost actually smelled like cat spray! It stank so bad I was worried my pipe was ruined. Only smoke this in a dedicated pipe or cob!!!

Vauen - Aueland - The Shire.

Rather than Orange's and Peach's, I find this has a taste and smell that's more like Jelly Babies or fruit gum sweets. It has got a fruitiness to it, the type that suggests citrus, but there's also a sugariness; it's this that gives me the impression of jellied sweets. Strangely, I enjoy this; normally I'd run a mile from this type of flavour!

There's not much nicotine in this; it's not the mildest I've had, but still, it's no stronger than very mild.

The tobaccos offer very little taste, partly due to the sweet topping cancelling them out somewhat.

One of the negatives is tongue bite; it's for this reason I score it only two points.

A good blend, but it could be better.

Somewhat recommended.
