Fribourg & Treyer 34th Mixture

(3.00)
Medium strength mixture, light in body, with double broad cut Virginia, natural black cavendish and latakia.
Notes: This is made by Planta in Berlin under license ever since Imperial Tobacco closed down Fribourg & Treyer. As Planta bought only the recipe and Imperial Tobacco seems to want to revive the F&T name for a cigarette, Planta had to change the Name to Petersen & Sörensen.

Fribourg & Treyer - 34th Mixture.

My mixture's really coarse, especially some of the Virginia pieces. Sadly it contains a few twigs, too. Because the tin's larger than most 50g ones the tobacco sits loosely, it isn't squeezed and compressed in there! The aroma's like a milder English, but not too puissant.

To me the smoke would suit the often complacently used description 'All Day Smoke'!! The Virginia leads, but doesn't have much of a citrus, sharp, flavour. It's more subdued, and not caustic. This works nicely with the softness from the Black Cavendish. Now, the Latakia: this offers plenty of herbaceous wood, but not much of the archetypal 'smokiness'. Because of the coarse cut the temperature's low, and the good hydration enables a steady burn.

Nicotine: medium. Room-note: quite nice.

34th Mixture? I like it but don't 'love' it. So, three stars:

Recommended.

I must admit I was intrigued by Fribourg and Treyers offerings since I knew the brand through nasal snuff.

I was not disappointed by this blend. It had a nice tin aroma, on the smoky side. Its a beautiful multi colored ribbon cut. Moist out of the tin.

I smoked the entire tin in a weeks time and got to know the blend. What was nice is it was a very consistent rich creamy smoke. This was a very well behaved smoke.

I feel like the virginias play the base and the lat plays the guitar.

I would give it 3.5 if that was an option.

Will buy in the future.
