Fribourg & Treyer 34th Mixture
(2.88)
Medium strength mixture, light in body, with double broad cut Virginia, natural black cavendish and latakia.
Notes: This is made by Planta in Berlin under license ever since Imperial Tobacco closed down Fribourg & Treyer. As Planta bought only the recipe and Imperial Tobacco seems to want to revive the F&T name for a cigarette, Planta had to change the Name to Petersen & Sörensen.

The usual Kohlhase&Kopp mixture, this time they change the cut, really rough with enormous pieces, but the result is still the same: good tobacco but not exceptional. The usual sweetness is there, the nutty flavour, all the components...nothing new. The packing is a little tricky due to the cut, but the burning proceeds easily. The strenght is medium, suitable for every time of the day. If you liked the other K&K English mixtures you wouldn't go wrong with this one too.

I've had a small sample of this Virginia, Cavendish & Latakia (Scottish?) mixture. It's an irregular and on the whole rather broadly cut mixture of light tan and black leaf, with just a little bit of very dark brown. The tin aroma if of charcoal smoke, creosote, resin and leather.
It's very creamy, fairly sweet and mainly Latakia smokey at the light. From here it stays fairly soft and mellow, charcoal smoke from the Latakia being centre stage and they're really not much else to distract from it. From here to the end there's no development, just soft, creamy Latakia and Cavendish smoke. It leaves a little dry dottle.
The dose of Latakia seems to put this a shade beyond medium in flavour, as mixtures go, but it's not strong in terms of nicotine and the Cavendish makes it very smooth and medium in body. To my tastes it's a bit boring, but I do like my mixtures to be a little more complex and I do like them with Orientals, which this lacks. For me, a much nicer mixture if I want velvety smooth Latakia is Rattrays Black Mallory - which includes a bit of Orientals
