Definitely a good starter in the world of English Mixtures. It has the sweetness of Virginias and the smokiness of orientals in just the right proportions. It should be puffed gently and slowly, as too much haste will result in some tongue bite. This will be minimised though by packing it quite tightly - its fine cut will allow this and stay lit quite nicely. A well-balanced smoke, it's not too strong, too hot, too sweet or too sour. The room note takes me back to the pipe-smoking men of my childhood, when it seemed to me that all tobaccos smelt like this one.

For the smoker who is tired of great blasts of Latakia. The Orientals lead the way with just enough Latakia to lend a certain richness. I only wish a pipefull lasted longer. I smoke this in medium and smaller bowls.

The description on the tin says it all for me,"Virginia and Turkish, soft and mild".It is all that and more. The Virginia does seem to have a bit of the English scented plug smell and taste, although it doesn't seem offensive and well,I tend to like it.

I didn't know there was any Latakia in this blend, and if there is it's hard to tell as the Virginia's do seem to be first in taste and Turkish coming in softly behind.

At first light the blend reminded me more of a Dunhill red, Cigarette. The tobacco melowed out after lighting and became soft, mellow, and sweet with that good Turkish leaf ever so good and mistic. I think I'll wear a Pith helmet when I smoke this and try a British accent. I really really like this real English blend. Yum!!!

Pipestud, you might like more blends if you didn't smoke them from a bong.

I tried this tobacco shortly after finishing an 8 oz package of 965 and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was in comparison. Standard mix mild seems to contain a lot less latakia and more on the turkish and orientals which subdue the smokiness and bring out the spicyness. One of the things I like about this and most Dunhill blends are the ability to smoke with few re-lites and also the fine grey/white ash left over. I can't help feeling satisfied knowing I'm smoking some of the finest tobacco made on a middle class income!
