Peterson My Mixture 965

(3.18)
Peterson's My Mixture 965 is for the connoisseurs of full bodied tobacco. Choicest small latakia imparts a rich nutty flavor and coolness. Macedonia bright is added for sweetness. Brown cavendish completes this blend beloved by English mixture aficionados.
Notes: From its inception and until 1981, it was produced by Dunhill of London.Production was then transferred to Murrays in Belfast who like Dunhill were owned by Carreras Rothmans. Murrays produced it until late 2004 when BAT, who by that time had taken over Rothmans International, closed the Belfast factory. Since then it has been produced by Orlik, Denmark, part of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group. Pipe Tobacco Hall of Fame Inductee. Formerly known as Dunhill My Mixture 965, STG bought the rights to some Dunhill blends and changed the brand name from "Dunhill" to "Peterson".

This is an OK english blend. Good latakia flavor. If this was a 5 star rating system I'd give it 3. There are better ones out there. (Odyssey)

It’s a good mixture but I found it a little bit to strong at the beginning and the taste doesn’t meet my standards. I don’t say it’s bad but it doesn’t live to the taste I’ve imagined.

When I first tried this I had three Dunhill tins opened. EMP, Ultra Mild and the 965. I used to love the 965 but as I got through the tin it went from a 3.5-more of a 2 star tobacco for me. I found myself more intrigued by EMP and reaching for the Ultra Mild more often.

I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Cavendish but I feel this tobacco is a little flat. I think the Cavendish takes away from the typical English blend elements and smoothes it out a little too much. If you're looking for a really diverse smoke. I think you could find better English blends. I prefer EMP over this tobacco as it has more of a nicotine kick and for me, the flavor is a little bit more complex.

It's not bad and I think it's something everyone should try. But for me, I don't think I would buy another tin of this as I am almost making myself smoke it to finish the last remnants.

A rather underwhelming smoking mixture.

The first portion of the bowl does hit some of the right notes for me and there seems to be a good flavor balance. The smokiness of the Latakia is tempered by the other components, a there's a gentle sweetness that adds some depth, especially once the bowl gets going.

My biggest complaint with MM965 crops up past mid bowl where the smoke has a tendency to become harsh and off-putting.

There are plenty of English mixtures that get better towards the heel of the bowl, this isn't one of them. For me, this was a 2/3rds and dump the rest kind of blend. However, I will say that I notice a difference in the smoking quality of bulk MM965 and the tinned version. The tinned tobacco smokes smoother and the bulk tastes more rough and tumble. Either way, this one isn't my cup of tea & it's tough to recommend it.

This was just a plain Jane English for me. It was simply just ok. Didn't really feel "full" after smoking a bowl and not very inclined to smoke more. Had a bowl of Penzance afterward and really got a charge from a superior tobacco product.

I would characterize this blend as having a rye bread and dry, woody/leather flavor. It is low on sweetness as compared to something like Dunhill's Standard Mixture. Packs and lights easily enough and out of the tin has an appropriate moisture level.

I'm don't think this is right in my wheelhouse but it's well-made and surely would fit some people's bills as a great tobacco.

I'm rather undecided on this english mixture.

At first it feels like a full taste, cool and good burning tobacco. Usually I really enjoy the first half of the bowl. No bite at all.

With the second half of the bowl, I start feeling something bad at the back of my throat and even the taste seems a bit boring.

I find it to be like the ragged version of the early morning pipe blend

As mentioned by others, this is a good morning smoke. The mild cavendish allows the latakia to come through nicely, though not strongly. Very satisfying at the top of the bowl but gets rather sour at the bottom. The taste is milder than one would expect of a medium strength tobacco. Subtle and pleasant overall.

One of my favorites. Remember that ther Dunhill's 965 is a standard, is a benchmark mixture, and the original's blend have 100 years. Is balanced, complex, but each tobacco type can be recognized easily. Is a kind of tobacco that I like:Week in Nicotine but the taste, flavour and smell are full. Wonderfull tobacco,a premium grade for the blenders! In my oppinion, is similar to other English mixture Benchmark, Presbyterian. Also, as Presbyterian, it contains Macedonian Tobacco.]

Reevaluation. a New Can that i opened, and puff! Virginia dominated, as in Scottish Mixtures... Latakia weak....This is no more the same tobacco. Is now a very common "english" (Scottish?) mixture... and expensive... also a bad retro taste.... Milder, sometimes tasteless, no more favorite, no more highly Recommended....Regular, Decent, but not good as it was in the past.

I just started smoking a new tin of 965...Huge disappointment! This used to be one of my favorite tobaccos. I can honestly say that I don't even recognize the blend that I am currently smoking??? What the hell happened?! This used to be a most incredible tobaccos. Now, I am not sure I will even finish this tin. As other reviews have stated, the "low notes" are gone and there is no depth to the flavor. 965 used to be a wonderfully complex English. Now, the blend is shallow and completely uninteresting. Sad to say, another great blend may be gone forever. Truly a shame...
