I recently had the chance to smoke a few bowls of London Mixture from the late Murray‘s era. Apparently the tobacco had been produced sometime between 1995 and 2004.
There‘s really not a lot to say. It‘s a good oriental forward english blend. Mellow virginia, spicy oriental and some woodsy, smoky latakia. That‘s about it. It honestly wasn’t better or worse than a lot of blends which are currently available. It aged well and had no rough edges.
If you get the chance to buy a tin for a reasonable price, you should give it a try. It‘s definitely NOT worth spending 100 bucks or more on this. It‘s good, but not spectacular. Buy some GL Pease or HU instead.

Presentation: Simple sharp red tin with white text.
Cut: The perfect STG ribbon cut. Maybe a touch on the moist side but still smokeable.
Tin note: Smells sweet bread, slightly smoky
Tasting notes: Tastes tangy, grassy, smoky. Just the slightest bit bready/nutty.
Mechanics: N/A -- A well behaved blend.
Extra Remarks: You won't taste a wide variety of flavors but it is a beautifully balanced, flavorful blend. This is one of the quintessential english blends. Always enjoyable. 3 stars.

Wonderfully rich and smoky this is an all day smoke and a fabulous blend for latakia lovers. This review is of a tin I purchased February 2018 and started smoking October 2019. Manufactured by Scandinavian, I finished it during the COVOD-19 pandemic in Boston USA a few weeks ago. English/latakia blends are my absolute favorite and London Mixture did not disappoint. This is exactly what I'm looking for in an all day English smoke. I'd rate the latakia as medium strength. And of course the quality was noting short of excellent. Fine Virginians and some interesting Orientals to spice things up just a bit. For what it's worth I was able to compare the last few bowls with Dunhill Standard mixture and say the Orientals/Turkish were slightly less spicy than SM. This blend richly deserves four stars but I will give it three because I save a four start rating for blends that personally and subjectively really knock my socks off! Enjoy!!!

In Dunhill fashion, this tobacco is consistent. And probably that's the most special thing about it. It has an excellent ribbon cut, easy to pack and light. stays lit and leaves white ash with no moisture in the bowl. It's components are balanced and can be smelled in the tin aroma, rome note and in the taste profile.. It is an Oriental/Balkan blend with Cyprian Latakia and what I think might be Izmir. light and red Virginia act as a base but it's a mix of Latakia and oriental leaf. It's a good all day smoke and works well with coffee and tea. Which makes it appealing..

Smoking Dunhill London Mixture is like reading the description of a perfect English blend; grassy Virginias, dry Orientals and woodsy Latakias. Recommended to English blend admirers.

I smoked some tins bought in London in the 90's. It's an oriental-oriented tobacco, well balanced. You'll never get tired of it but I think it lacks in personality. 3,5/5 in my personal rating system.

No panache, no finesse. This Jackaro is an unpretentious proper English. As a long time Old Dublin smoker I miss the interplay of flavors within the blend. Please, do not misunderstand. This is a fine and proper tobacco. It is like the comparison between a skilled swordsman and that of a highly trained prize fighter. Both artists, yet each with their own unique style. Where as OD is light and sweet, LM is strong and robust. An excellent blend with the morning coffee by the way. A real head spinner if smoked heavy , best to go slowly with this Jackaro. Cheers

A friend recommended that I try this blend, knowing that I am fond of Latakia but not especially fond of Orientals. That being said, the blend surprised me in that the small amount of Latakia helped tone down the sweetness of the Orientals. The Virginias came through as not too sweet but bold and enjoyable. I will say that the aroma of the opened tin was not too pleasant but once in the pipe, I enjoyed the smoke. It is not a blend that I would smoke daily but will certainly have a bowl from time to time as a change of pace. Without the Latakia, I would probably pass this blend up as the Orientals would be too overpowering for me but then, all that is purely subjective. All in all, not a bad smoke.

Though I never try the Murray's version, this is good. I think it is a little bit more Latakia than the Standard blend. I did compare it with G.L. Pease's Westminister and I find myself to like London Mixture better with consistent flavor.
