Though my pipesmoking has revolved around traditional English, Virginia and Virginia-Perique blends for half a century, I do on occasion smoke an aromatic blend when company is over and ladies are present. As I am not familiar with aromatic blends, I chose Lord Methley's based simply on it's numeric rating in the hope I'd get a good one. How it received such a high rating beggars belief as upon opening the bag I was assaulted by every conceivable 'fruity smell' and 'boudoir perfume' that modern chemists can produce. It is so cased in sauce and PEG that it's as sticky as jam, and with its overpowering smell this blend is the Fruit Loops of aromatic pipe tobacco. Taste cannot be described as other than 'muddy' and quite unlike anything I can recall. I gave the remaining 200 grams to a friend who's smoked nothing but aromatics for forty five years and even he can't stand it. If Lord Methley's is a look into the future of aromatic blends or is what fellows new to the pipe consider a worthy smoke, then I weep for the future.

Super-sweet. Like cotton candy. Not very pie like, I get zero pastry notes. It's remarkably similar to hobbits weed, but sweeter and far less vanilla. The flavour is strong, sharp, sweet and it overwhelms the tobacco. There is some cavendish and virginia taste, but they're on Pluto compared to the topping. Have I mentioned it's sweet? Doesn't bite. Smokes well. Great room note. STRONG tin note, I can smell it in a sealed mason jar from 10ft. I'd wager this will ghost a briar. Ya, cotton candy with some cherry. It's very successful at being what it is: an aromatic's aromatic. So, if you like sweet, sugary, fruity aromatic tobacco then this is an absolute must. Not really my bag, but I'd smoke it again. Recommended, but keep some insulin on hand for safety.

I've been on the lookout for a fruity aromatic that isn't overwhelmingly cherry. The tin note is that of wild berries and the topping taste is similar but not so heavy as to not allow the tobacco taste to come through.

I have re-ordered this blend and added it to my rotation.

I recently ordered an aromatic sampler from 4Noggins, having never tried any of their products. This is the third product I have tried. As in the first two reviews, The base tobacco is high quality, it burned very well and to the bottom of the bowl with little effort. All that was left was a fine ash. The pouch note and room note both had a mild berry scent. However, the taste did not match the pouch, I didn't really taste anything but the tobacco, not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I was expecting. This would be a suitable all day smoke. 2.555555 stars...

My first try at a product offered by 4Noggins, and I must say it is very surprising. Although I can not remember the name of the blend, my Grandfather used to smoke a Peterson aromatic very similar to this back in the 80s.

Upon opening the pack, the aroma is wonderful, a sweet berry/nut fragrance, with a light hint of chocolate. The tobacco out of the pack needs a bit of drying out (15-30 mins), packing and lighting goes very smoothly once it has had some drying time.

Upon lighting, the taste is very mellow and has no bite. If smoked slowly, it keeps lit easily, and on average it might require 1 or 2 relights. If smoked quickly, it will heat up the bowl quite a bit.

Folks around me really enjoy the room note, stating that it is very pleasant and light smelling. When I finish a bowl, I'm left with a nice smell in my beard... almost tempting me to go for another round.

It has become part of my top 3 tobaccos, and can easily be a daily smoke.

4Noggins has a definite winner with this beautiful, mellow and well balanced blend. I enjoy English blends as well as Aromatics, and this is one worth trying out.

Sold by 4Noggins, Lord Methley’s is an intriguing aromatic. The scent in the bag is powerfully berry. The room note carries some of this (but is more subdued creating a pleasant scent). Low nicotine in this blend. While the smell of the tobacco is heavily aromatic, the taste is a bit calmer and more nuanced. The Burley and Black Cavendish stand out and are well proportioned to one another to balance the overall flavor. The Virginia flavor is somewhat lost (and what is present falls more to the bready-side than the grass/hay note Virginia’s often carry). The fact that the flavor itself is softer than its nose is a positive. And while the flavoring may be strong, the taste is a treat.

Lord Methley's. lol. Love the name!

I thought the Tewksbury Match had an intense pouch aroma! At first, I thought these smelled very similar. But after comparing the aroma side by side, the blackberry and alcohol stand out compared to the cherry of the Tewksbury.

Cut is fairly rough ribbon, but no large or unmanageable chunks to speak of. The moisture content is great, no burn issues to be had. Lights and packs with ease.

The initial flavoring is pretty intense. This reminds me of a jacked-up version of Boswell's Berry Cobbler. However, it's smooth, flavorful and not cloying in the least.

The Virginia offers some sweet grassiness, and the burley offers some body and a creamy mouthfeel. This blend is sweet, I cannot tell if that's from the blk cavendish or the topping. Buttery smooth, zero bite, and burns clean and cool. I think this would be a great blend to give to a brand new pipe beginning their pipe smoking journey. Its flavorful, burns great, and isn't complicated in the least.

Boswell Berry Cobbler has been a go-to of mine for years. Now I'm adding Methley's to the rotation as well.
