From the same line as Molto Dolce comes Maple Street! A maple flavored Molto Dolce? No. That’s what I was hoping for but it’s not so don’t think it is. It’s more a kin to the codger blend by a similar name.
The tin note is a nutty sweetness. Some sugar and molasses. Also rum, lots of rum. Not an overly maple aroma but it’s there. Tan colored soft ribbons that packs loose and spongy. Moisture was fine right from the tin. Not goopy nor does it have a wet cased topping.
The taste is predominantly burley. I’m rather adverse to burley so that is going to trigger a negative bias in my opinion however this behaved well for me and did not bite me. Nutty, woody, toasted nuts, molasses are the main flavors for me. There’s definitely a dominant sweet rum flavor here that for me is the best part of this blend and really does the tobacco well. Do I taste maple? Not really. For me it’s more sweet rum and it’s good. The retrohale is more of the same and does tingle my nose. This reminds me of a OTC blend like Rum and Maple however this is done up much better and I enjoy this a lot more. If you like lightly aromatic burley forward blends like that then definitely give this a try it’ll be a treat for you. Burned well, stayed lite well, didn’t bite me or dry my mouth out like other burley forward blends. Maybe that’s due to the Virginia in it and or the topping. Speaking of Virginia it is in there and adds some grassy sweetness. Did leave a little dottle and some moisture in the bowl. All and all it is a premium old time burley forward light aromatic blend. The room note reminded a coworker of the old man who lived next door who smoked a pipe on his porch. As I said it’s reminiscent of an OTC blend but much nicer. I actually didn’t mind this for a burley forward blend even if they not up my maple street or alley. The more I smoke this the more I appreciate it and I’ve found myself grabbing this tin more than I thought.

The longer I smoke a pipe the more I have come to prefer the old burley blends. Rum was always a staple in the casings of yesteryear and who doesn't love maple? I'd give this 4 out of 4 but for the slightly bitter aftertaste, which is normal of burley and even more normal of the casing. I don't want my last statement to put you off, there are definitely aromatics out there that are more bitter, goopier if you will, just be aware. I won't give you a fanciful description of every nuance or subtlety, this isn't that kind of girl. This is a tobacco you don't have to think much on. Its sweet, nutty, creamy, with a little rum and a lot of maple. IMO superior to the other popular maple tobaccos out there. I don't want it all the time, but I'm always happy after I finish a bowl.
