Sutliff Tobacco Company Maple Street
(2.95)
A fantastic blend of complementary ingredients: rum and maple applied to golden Virginia and mellow white burley. Perfect for fans of Mapleton or Rum & Maple.
Notes: This blend is manufactured by Sutliff, and sold under their "Sutliff Private Stock" brand.

This stuff was cut into a fine ribbon. Upon opening the tin, I was almost bowled over by the maple smell. It smelled like it was soaked in two bottles of Aunt Jemima. Not goopy or sticky for an aromatic. It had good burn qualities and only took one relight after the charring light. It was, however, way too sweet for me. If I want pancakes smothered in maple syrup I'll eat them, not try to cram them into a pipe and smoke them. After a couple bowls, I dumped this stuff into the trash.

Maple Street, probably my biggest mistake so far in pipe tobacco purchases. My tin opening came across as dry and very neutral. More straw-like, and even less than straw in aroma. Upon searching, just a minute hint of maple. Hydrated, not much improvement. Burnt hot, rough. Room note from wife, burning grass on a hot summer day. Only tobacco so far that I could not recommend to anyone. Really no topping, casing, or flavor noticed...
Pipe Used:
Various briars and cobs
PurchasedFrom:
P and C
Age When Smoked:
Very old and dried out

I bought a tin because of the name and description from the manufacture and some of the nice reviews here. But sadly, this is a major disappointment. The packaging is very nice and professional. Smell is fairly good but the rum overwhelms the maple and not very balanced in my opinion.
Taste is mild and not very exciting at all. My wife complained about the room note saying it somehow irritated her throat and she wasn't too fancy of the smell either. So I guess I won't be smoking anymore of it. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone in my honest opinion.

Maple Street came in an attrative 1.5 ounce tin with a plastic top cap that's most effective in keeping air out. Typical of Sutliff aromatics, the tobacco was damp and needed to dry for a week or so.
The artificial Maple flavor is dominant over the walnut. You'll get a good supply of propylene glycol here. Maybe it's just me but I get a slight microwave popcorn aroma that fills the room.
This is not a go-to Maple blend, I prefer Wilke's Vermont Maple thats not over-sauced. Doesn't bit unless pulled, leaves a mess even bristle pipe cleaners won't clean. The Maple flavoring will ghost a briar very badly. Not recommend.

After reading the reviews here, I was anxious to try this blend, so I ordered a couple of tins to try. Smelled nice enough upon opening the tin. But that was about it. Not all that tasty really, and it smokes hot. An overpriced disappointment in a pretty package.

It smells wonderful, however I did not find the taste to match the room note. It has a bitter soapy taste which only gets more bitter further down the bowl. The aftertaste was even worse. It also gooped up my pipe with sludge at the bottom, which is going to have to be deep cleaned out.

This is a blend that may fit someone’s palate, but not mine. There’s something off about the maple flavor - to me it tastes like a popsicle stick if you suck innit after finishing a popsicle and the flavor is gone. Outside of that it gives a little chemical residue type flavor that is a real turn-off for me.
I sometimes give blends two stars for the benefit of the doubt someone else might like it - but, this truly deserves less than one star, IMO.
Burns OK, needs plenty of relights as I find most Sutliff aros do even after dry time. There are other much better maple blends available. See Autumn Evening for one of the better and Scotty’s Salmon River for a more mild maple smoke.
