Cornell & Diehl Mocha

(2.26)
C&D's Mocha should appeal to the coffee lover, as well as those around you. It is half espresso and half dark chocolate, a rich chocolate flavor on an all black cavendish base.

I have found C&D has either weak aromatics or at the most mild aromatics. They just don't seem to either want too or can offer a really strong tasting aromatic. This is another very mild aromatic. Tin note is outstanding and if it tasted half as good it would be great. Taste is a bit of dark chocolate and black coffee and I do mean a bit. Most of the time there is not much of anything. If you don't sip but puff you will get no taste at all. There is sweetness at the start of the smoke but that quickly goes away. Then just every once in a while you will get a hint of black coffee or dark chocolate. Room note is very nice with a mixture of coffee and chocolate. Tends to burn a little hot if you get in a hurry. You have to be patient with this blend or you will get nothing through the smoke.
Pipe Used: Rossi

Well, it just doesn't taste quite as good as it smells. Burn quality isn't that great either. Just one of those many aromatics out there that fall short. Didn't expect it from Cornell & Diehl. They've made so many good blends and their Nutty Irishman was a hit.

This is my first foray into the world of C&D and the first tin opened from a C&D aromatic sampler pak just delivered.

The first reviewer of this blend wrote a dead-on description.

Only thing to add is you might find this blend a good introduction to the C&D aromatic line.

The tin aroma,(reminds of fermented wine), prompted me to think, "Oh man, I like this scent. Highly unusual for an aromatic. Could this be a high quality aromatic that I have been looking for? I'm looking forward puffing a superabundance of these fumes!"

Answer: Yes and no.

"Yes"...in that it is a very good quality tobac that may impress you and prompt you to want to try more of these blends. In addition, this Mocha would not be at all disappointing for owners of a more sensitive palate.

"No"...in that I found it a little stingy in flavor and taste. It just needs a little more richness maybe in the form of a stronger nicotine kick. Also, it burned way too fast in a medium sized pipe. Try it in a large bowl for a longer smoke and perhaps a better smoke toward the last third of your bowl.

For some reason my tin came sealed, but when I opened it, it was very dry. Half the tin looked like coffee grinds, not tobacco ribbons or flakes. I tried this stuff and it was very very sweet but I could not recognize any real coffee flavor even after examining it in my mouth, just chocolate.

I like Cornell & Diehl tobaccos but this one did not appeal to me. I'm not much of a coffee drinker either so that may be the issue. I'll skip on this one

The other reviews are pretty dead on. i will add this; It smells great in the tin, the taste is not bad either. I could definitely taste the espresso. It burned extremely hot in the bowl. at times the smoke flowing out of the top of the bowl was noxious reminiscent of ammonia!

If you plan to smoke this blend for no more than 2 minutes - go for it. But after 2 minutes the initial taste and aroma are no where to be found. This happens with any number of cheap tobacco's but it shouldn't with a blend for C&D. At first it is hard to get properly lit, not unusual for a toasted black blend. Once it gets going however, the taste and the aroma are gone. I kept at it for the whole half an hour smoke, but could never recapture the initial 2 minutes. Like my first H.S. girlfriend: Good for a quickie, but you don't want to marry her. My can is now retired to the closet with a million other blends and will come out only to entertain guests who might want a go at it.
