Watch City Cigar Persian Slipper

(3.27)
This is a beautiful mild Oriental blend of the highest quality. Fine Turkish and Middle Eastern tobaccos lightly spice a bed of the highest quality crumb cut burley and stoved cavendish. A dash of bright Virginia rounds off this blend.
Notes: Website states, "Not dry and strong like the tobacco Holmes kept in the toe of a Persian slipper but more like the slipper itself, soft and comfortable! This is a blend in the Scottish tradition which leans toward the Oriental. Izmir Turkish, Green River Black Cavendish, Crumb-Cut Burley, Latakia, a touch of Perique and a bit of Carolina ribbon for a nutty sweetness."

Typical browns with a hint of black ribbon cut, this blend has a bit of the same gingerbread I noted in WCC's "Justice Mixture", and there were similarities in the taste. This one elevates itself by focusing more on the orientals and the burley, in that order. The orientals are buttery sweet and absolutely delicious! The burley is right there with a toastiness that takes this one into the realm of amazingly creative. It's a mellow spice flavor and edges into the sweet the way butter does, in a subtle and non-overt manner.

As with several of the Watch City blends, this one does not like to share bowl time with other blends. I smoked 5 bowls of this back to back and never tired of it. Most of the time I find that blends containing too many components tend to become cloudy and imprecise. I've found myself thinking "one too many components" in several blends. This one is so well done that each inclusion brings something to the party to heighten the experience rather than dull it. Pounds of this heading to my cellar! Once again, Ernie Q is a blender to be reckoned with and it's time the word got out. This blend and this blender can't hide forever!

Baghdad Bob's recently renamed to Persian Slipper - it's a pleasure to write this review since from the first time I smelled this tobacco in the Jar at WatchCity Cigar I've been in love with it. Every ingredient is perfectly balanced and ALL come into play when smoking a bowl. Highly complex, intensely interesting - always leaves me wanting more. A true all day smoke. The latakia and cavendish don't show themselves very well in a smaller [group 3 or less] bowl but boy-oh-boy do they come to center stage in a group 5 bowl. Clearly better in a larger pipe, partly from the expanded flavor you'll experience and partly from the fact that this blend is so darn wonderful you'll just want it to last as long as possible. Wonderful room note and an incredible aftertaste too! I simply have NOTHING bad to say about this tobacco - go get some, you won't regret it.

A wonderful Oriental mixture with a Burley base, which is a great combination when Watch City does it. Decently complex, the Burley gives it a solid bottom and some nicotine. Good tobacco flavor and I liked the aftertaste it left.

Ideal for those leery of English blends and who would like a non-overpowering English to try. A great introduction to this blend type. Lat-mainliners may not enjoy it, though I think that even for them the Burley makes it worth trying. Agree with the reviewer who said it is better in a larger bowl.

This a wonderful smoke on a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Great combination of flavors. Smooth and consistent from charging light to the bottom of the bowl. A wonderful English mixture.

Package note of sweet spices, sour and smoky. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of black, brown and tan. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of tangy sweet spices, floral, sugar, musty vegetation, nuts, smoky, buttery, savory, dry, sour fermented fruit, herbal incense, spicy, orange peel, leather, wood, a mild zesty citrus background note, and a peppery retro. Burley is leading with Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish and Virginia supporting. Perique is cheering from the sidelines. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

The jar note is surprisingly slightly sweet like a molasses. Sour tang, vegetative, musty, fruit, earthy, woody, molasses. The Latakia aroma is light. Perfect moisture ready to go.

The smoke is complex. I get that orientals tobacco up front. It’s a sour, herbaceous, delicious tart vinegar tang along with the Latakia that makes this so good. The Latakia is just a condiment but does add some musty smokey herbal notes to this. Burley next, a woody vegetative flavor. The cavendish makes this slightly sweet and not dry which is much to my liking. It’s well rounded, smooth mouth feel, little harshness. Very soft mouth feel. A complex and interesting blend. There’s a fair bit of sweetness to this too that gives it a velvety feel and taste. Rather enjoy this blend a lot.
