I've smoked many burleys, and though I keep a lot of Solani ABF on hand, Blend 00 is the best ribbon-cut burley I've ever had the pleasure of stuffing my pipe with.. Starts out with grassy notes and then toward middle-bowl, you'll get very slight hints of sweet spice... A pleasurable and satisfying smoke.

If you love plain Burley, you really must give this a try.

This is the plainest tobacco I have ever smoked. However, this doesn't detract from my enjoyment.

This is very gently sweetened (maybe with corn syrup), and like its stablemate Perfection Plug, has a buttery smoothness to it.

The flavor profile is more grassy, toasty and herbal than nutty like some Burley blends.

It is of course pure joy in a cob.

Uhle's makes really fine stuff, and I love the old school Americana blends.

Their like is slowly dwindling, so support them if you can!

I pretty much reiterate Pipestud's review. This may well be the best Burley I've smoked, too, and I agree that it is far beyond any drugstore Burley -- and I've tried just about all of them. And Jack, I am a Burley man. It doesn't bite (and good Burley never should), doesn't get bitter and smokes nice n' cool. It is medium in strength, maybe a little more than that. There is a sweetness I can't quite put my finger on, with chocolatey hints that come and go. Each bowl seems to get better as I smoke it, and the aftertaste is great. Wow.

If you have not encountered Uhle tobaccos, git yoself to their website and start ordering. They make remarkable tobaccos and are wizards with VA and Burley. If you like Burley, you gotta try 00. If you do not like Burley, here is the ultimate taste test.

An all-day smoke and new discovery for this long-time pipe puffing cowboy. If you enjoy Burley tobacco with no extras, please give Uhle's 00 a try.

I concur with Pipestud, this is the best burley I have smoked. It is smooth without bitterness at the end of a bowl. Burns clean and dry and has a slight sweetness to my taste. Definitely an all day smoke and will not offend those around you. Plus Uhle's is just a top notch bunch of people.

This is really excellent. Now that Affordable Pipes has quit the blending business and there will be no more Blue Grass Melody, this is a worthwhile substitute. One of the finest burleys I've had, without the slight flavoring of Perfection Plug which I've actually grown very fond of, but absolutely perfect in its own way...

I'll gloss over most of what I've tried (or re-tried), I've been very happy with the Stokkebye Cube Cut and pleasantly surprised by Prince Albert. Then I came across a sealed bag of Uhle's OO that I had set aside some time ago.

I can't remember what I paid for the 14oz. bag, I recall it was quite inexpensive, less than the drugstore name-brands, more than the "Super Value" types.

To come to the point. Uhle's OO is a superb medium strength, medium tasting burley tobacco. It looks like PA, tastes quite a bit like PA, with the addition of a very slight cigar note, like Carter Hall perhaps? But better, so much better. Very natural, and no gooey fingers before or after a smoke...something that's always turned me off. This is the kind of product one can get when it's produced by a handful of people who care about what they do. At the moment it's not listed on the Uhle's web site, but I'd bet it's still available; do give it a try.

This is the benchmark straight Burley. Not a complex smoke. No flavorings I can detect other than a sweetener. I don't get any cocoa or chocolate from this, just a little nut to go along with the honey sweet leaf. I get zero in the way of bitterness.

This is a tobacco that will underwhelm the wrong smoker, but if you love Burley, I don't see how you could have anything but an overwhelmingly positive response to this one. It has nothing in the way of sour notes. The best way I could describe it would be to say that this is the ultimate blending tobacco that is far too good on its own to do anything but smoke it straight. Jeremy Reeves at Cornell & Diehl should be shut in a room and made to smoke this until he apologizes to the world via Twitter and promises to try harder.

All righty, then! Some say this Burley is mildly flavored, some say there is no flavoring detected. I'll have to choose the extremely mild choice. This double ought Burley has an ever so slight sweetness about it that caught my attention, regardless. I wouldn't have guessed a burley could taste this sweet & mild without a light flavoring. I haven't really tried that many burleys in a few years but 00 is a Burley which possesses twice the potency of any VA blend. The Pipestud recommended this to me & I'm glad he did. I love it & it can be an all day smoke for me. It takes a good while to finally dry enough to stoke a bowl. After a few tokes, I noticed It doesn't bite & has a good burn rate & produces little moisture when properly prepared. This will be a mainstay in my rotation.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the experienced pipers on this site that have helped me to obtain some of the best tobaccos I've ever smoked. I never even knew there was such a thing as Balkan Sobranie OM, Royal Yacht, Bells Three Nuns, etc., until around twenty-two years ago. I only knew of drug store/grocery shelf blends or the Tinder Box blends in the big glass jars, you see. Somehow, I stumbled upon Pipestud's website while surfing one evening & things started happening... he became my mentor in the hobby.

Then I began shopping for tinned tobaccos online & joined Tobacco Reviews. Where have I been all my life? I love this hobby & it helped me kick the cigarette habit. I prefer the stronger blends, have an occasional strong, Dominican or Honduran, Cuban seed cigar, smoke outside or under a vent & don't inhale anything. Life is good!

Uhle’s 00

This review is based on multiple bowls smoked over the prior 10 days. The tobacco is from a fresh 7 ounce bag.

The long stringy ribbons need time to dry before they can be packed. I try to use a light hand when packing in order to avoid clogging the draft hole. Sometimes I’ll tear the ribbons into smaller pieces as an additional precaution. Nothing ruins my day more than a clogged draft hole.

Upon lighting, I sense nutty burley, some wood and fresh earth . I also note a pleasant non-chemical sweetness. The taste is consistent from start to finish.

It’s mild in body and taste. The nicotine level is barley greater than mild. It burns at a moderate pace, it doesn’t bite, nor is it harsh. It smokes well in cobs and briars, though I prefer it best in a cob.

00 is an uncomplicated, yet flavorful burley. It’s smooth enough to appeal to the ‘new comer’. It also has that special appeal that will be appreciated by veteran codgers.
