Creamy and perfumey.. subtle but tasty cherry note.. This is an odd duck.. but surely one of the best aromatics I've ever tried.. and it is a full on aromatic.. you do taste the toasty cavendish but it is all about the flavoring.. grab a big bowl for this one.. she burns pretty quick.. not a whole lot of nuance but I can't be too nit pickey.. this delivers exactly what one would expect even though the flavor is not at all typical.. not a drugstore chemical bomb that will roast your tongue.. a delicious and different lakeland experience.. I probably will never smoke it again.. but I did enjoy it.

Very serviceable cherry blend. This is better than any of the drugstore cherry blends, due to the quality of the leaf used, but it failed to get me hooked. I much prefer Cult ~ Blood Red Moon, as it is the best cherry flavored tobacco I’ve tried thus far.

This Nancy is an an excellent Lakeland aromatic. Upon open the tin, ones notices a coarse rough cut jet black Cavendish with a lovely cherry note. Upon properly drying the baccy, this blends provides a very pleasant floral-cherry taste with a pleasant room note. It smokes cool and clean with modest relights necessary. A brilliant cherry blend in a genre of sub-par cherry blends. This is well worth a go for the intrepid Lakeland Aromatic smoker. Happy Puffing...

Pure cherry with an almost cursory touch of vanilla and a unique 'green' taste that pokes through occasionally. It reminded me of some homemade wine I had once that taste as though a leaf or stem or two made it into the mash. This stuff is silky and delicious. No bite. Very moist. A constant and never boring flavour from start to finish. The room note is marvelous. Happy chicks around the campfire. One of three Cherry Aros I bought and maybe the most distinct.

After a decade of smoking unflavoured English and Virginia mixtures, I have recently embarked on a journey to discover some of the finest aromatics out there. Though not without occasional disappointments, the exercise has been a rewarding one. Not least thanks to blends like the one being reviewed here. The Top Black Cherry is, without a doubt, one of the finer aromatic blends out there. Rather moist in the tin, a little drying out will benefit the bowl immensely. The smoke itself is dry and never bites, quite unlike many similar blends out there. The flavor is subtle cherry, woven through with wafts of sweet Cavendish of the highest order. Te ghost remains in the pipe, to be sure, but I would never smoke an aromatic in a pipe not dedicated to the genre. Gawith & Hoggarth's Top Black Cherry is a gourmet aromatic of the finest order.

This is a delicious blend. The cherry is subdued, and the tobacco seems to be decent.
The only reason for three stars rather than four is that it simply won't stay lit for me. Every few puffs I had to relight. Yes, I did let it dry out over night several times. I'll never win a pipe smoking contest, but I can usually keep a pipe lit longer that I can with this blend.

Wow! I am enjoying this blend. A very nice Dark-Cherry taste and aroma, BUT ,,,, I noticed it takes several days of being opened to develope the taste more fully. Somehow exposure to oxygen matures the cherry note and it improves. Upon opening the flavor is there but a bit hard to identify. I have had the tin open for about 2 weeks and the results are fantastic, descent tobacco strength, and a perfect cherry tang. Try drying some on a plate overnight to get the best results. I have never been impressed by cherry blends but this one is top notch, If you enjoy aromatics and high quality cavendish, this blend is for you. This blend is in my top 5 best blends of all time. Well done Gawith and Hoggarth !!!! 4 stars ****
Update 6-6-16
I have almost finished the tin and this is going to end up being one of the top 5 favorite blends of all time for me. Quite possibly the perfect pipe tobacco, if you enjoy aromatics, and if you don't, this one might make a convert out of you LOL 🙂
I'm saving the empty tin and going to order a pound of this in bulk. We've all had those blends that were barely smokeable,,,, and those blends that we "fear" to run out of because we love them so much,,, I don't ever want to be "out" of Top Black Cherry.
Cheers !! 🙂

Opening the tin, I get a deep vanilla smell, with maybe some cherry liqueur and just a tiny floral whiff that tells me it's from the Lake District. The leaf is all tacky black Cavendish, but it fluffs and loads flawlessly.
I get a mild cherry flavor and a lot of sweetness after the bowl is going, but the thing that jumps out at me is that this is some silky smooth, creamy Cavendish. It is absolutely delightful, and the cherry flavoring doesn't get in the way of the Cavendish at all.
GQ tobaccos lists this as Exclusiv Black Cherry as well, perhaps a merger between the two reviews? Either way, I love to keep a tin of this at the ready.

I took a six month hiatus from pipe smoking. When I picked up the pipe again my tolerance was gone and my need to smoke heavy English mixtures had dissipated as well. I decided to purchase a few aromatics, thinking I could appreciate the lighter leaf and actually taste some of the flavorings. I picked Top Black Cherry because Gawith and Hoggarth has always had a high standard of quality and I trusted that if anyone could do an aromatic properly, it would be them.
The blend is near jet black, the smell emanating from the plastic bag nestled inside the tin is strong, not quite the cherry note that I expected, it has an almost medicinal quality to it. However you describe it, the scent carries perfectly to the smoke, and the flavor lasts to the dottle. Top Black Cherry, though damp from the casing, lights readily and stays lit throughout, without a bit of gurgle.
I suppose I got exactly what was promised but the flavor isn't for me. I miss the heavier tobaccos and would love an aromatic that delivers a solid nicotine punch, but I guess that's what the Lakeland blends are for, albeit their floral characteristics which can sometimes tire the palate.

I am not a big aro fan or really know that much about them but this one tasted pretty good and not too chemically. After about half the pipe i find the flavours a bit much, but as i siad, i not used to aro's. Base tobacco is good quality.
