I'll preface this by saying I'm not a lover of aromatic tobaccos, I do however love this tobacco. The pros: it's not extremely hot burning like some over sweetened aromatics I've tried. It's not candy! Think black cherries from the supermarket in the summer when you get them fresh and ripe. Sweet yes, sugar no. Cons; very chunky, I've not tried any broken flakes but I would imagine that's what this is. Pack looser than you think you must. It can turn "ashy" and tasteless over longer smokes. Side note: I had to tweak the tin slightly for it to stay closed, not bad nor a knock on the tobacco. It's a pop off tin as the 50g comes in a rectangle tin.

On to the body of the review: As I said before, I'm no aromatic man, I am new to smoking pipes, less than 9 months but I've enjoyed English and Scottish blends ten fold more than aros. This blend is different tho.

You can taste the flavoring througout the smoke rather than it burning off in the initial light as Brigham and Peterson Luxury Blend. That is in a small bowl. I have tried TBC in a medium/ large bowl (as in the MM Diplomat) and the flavour tended to burn off in the lower quarter of the bowl. That being said, the rather squat MM Morgan with 3/4" by 3/4" (roughly) bowl made this toby shine like the sun.

The taste as I said is not overly sweet like candy, more of a supermarket bag of black cherries (with stem and pit at the center.) The tobacco flavour does shine through the topping well but not overly so as Luxury Blend by Peterson tends to. That being said, it is simple Cavendish so don't expect too much subtlety in the tobacco, that comes from how it interacts with the topping.

Pack it loosely for it to shine. I have packed it like I would Peterson and Dunhill toby and it simply won't light nor will it stay lit if you're stubborn as I am. Light pack, almost a gravity feed and a light tamp and it lights up like a charm and stays lit with one maybe two re lights if you're still relatively new to puffing.

I would highly recommend giving it a try for aros or english lovers alike.

P.S. There are those who complain about the "soapy/ floral" tinge of Lakeland toby. I personally didn't detect it in this but it is my first lakeland blend, and it is an aro. That being said, I would imagine a floral taste would compliment the natural cherry taste as a cherry blossom might compliment the fruit.

There are very few aromatics I can tolerate these days. I've been developing a relationship with a lovely lady who claims to like the smell of "a cherry pipe". Once I ascertained she meant the tobacco and not the wood, I warily shopped for a non-drugstore, vanilla-free, non-synthetic (maraschino: benzaldehyde) topped blend and chose this for trying out on her.

Well, one tin later, I still haven't. I really, really enjoy this stuff and smoked it up at home before I saw her again. My objectives were met: it is definitely not drug store pouch stuff, natural tasting (cherries don't actually taste like candy) and rather yummy in its own way. It's what I always thought smoking a hookah would be like. It can be smoked hard (but don't) and it won't bite. The nicotine is subdued and barely noticed. And although I try to discern cherries specifically in the room note, it just seems sweet and un-tobacco-like. I can see why women would like it.

I dedicated a large, perfectly serviceable cheap briar pipe to smoke this, assuming it would forever be scented and I chose well. Bigger is better for keeping it lit while also keeping it cool; it does have a moist texture (yes: fudge brownie crumbs), so drying is advisable. But not too much, the taste is carried in the steam, like many aromatics (Mephisto). There seemed a trace of soap in the tin. I'm not a fan of the tin smell, but it disappears once lit.

A much needed change of pace and a very social tobacco. The next order will be bulk.

The tobacco is very dark and a little damp. Just so that I did not flash off all the topping, I smoked this "as is." It had a nice dark cherry tin note and not chemical smell.

The first couple of puffs were a litle medicinal to my palate, but it setled down quickly. It was a pleasant smoke that was mostly the black cherry flavor at first and not much on the tobacco side. It required several relights. There is not much depth or complexity here. It leaves an aftertaste in your mouth which could be a plus or a minus. This was neither here nor there for me. The cherry flavor stayed as I smoked through the bowl, and the tobacco came through a little more in the last half.

This one is a little hard to rate. It is the best cherry blend I have tried, and so maybe compared to others in its genre, it deserves a 4. I am not likely to buy more, but it is pleasant and I enjoy smoking it. The cost is high.

So many cherry blends on the market lack real cherry flavor. They tend to range from downright awful to really great copies of artificial cherry flavor. As expected from GH, the cherry flavor really tastes better than both ends of that spectrum. The only negative is that it tends to coat my mouth a bit, but that is likely a body chemistry issue. Top Cherry is a good aromatic to venture into for non-aromatic smokers wanting to venture off into something aromatic. If you are a fan of cherry flavored aromatics, this should be on your shopping list.

I bought a tin of this several years ago, and smoked a few bowls but got discouraged with it due to the moisture content. Well, we all know what happens when you forget about a blend and find it several years later.

Initially this was a wet smoking blend that was hard to keep lit. Its not your typical cloying cherry cough syrup topping, this tastes like natural cherries. Now, its a lot easier to light, and the wetness has disappeared. Still has the natural cherry scent, but it has diminished some. as DMKerr stated, it leaves a weird film in the mouth. Maybe PG? Either way, if its dried out and is at optimum smoking moisture, this is a great aromatic blend from a blender across the pond. Don't pack too tight though, then it is impossible to light.

Top Black Cherry was a delightful smoke, I finished off my tin in record time (especially for a cherry blend). Me and cherry tobacco's do not really get along, I love aromatics and I love cherry flavor but put together can have a volatile effect on ones tongue. TBC has a natural topping, nothing cough syrupy or artificial tastes and I think that combined with quality leaf almost eliminates any tongue bite, the nicotine level is low. So if you enjoy cherry toppings but have been burned in the past then try TBC, I think you will be pleasantly surprised! Also a much better beginner tobacco than say Paladin or Captain Black Cherry IMHO..

I don't smoke this blend a whole lot but I usually have at least one tin on hand, as I do enjoy it occasionally. Top Black Cherry is quite moist from the tin and I give it a good hour of dry time prior to loading my pipe. Like most aromatics, don't smoke this stuff too fast or the few subtleties that it does have will be gone and the flavor will become overly bitter.

Once dried a bit, this is an exceptionally smooth smoke with a subtle semi-sweet tobacco flavor, deftly enhanced by a hint of tart dark fruit on the finish. I say dark fruit because the flavoring doesn't scream of the typical artificial candied cough syrup taste that one finds in other "cherry" aromatics. If anything, the top note reminds me of the once popular Heering liqueur.

No real surprises here, both in the fact that this is a simple yet enjoyable flavored black Cavendish and that it's just one more high-quality product from Gawith Hoggarth. If there's a blend in the genre capable of giving cherry pipe tobacco a good name, this is it.

From a company that makes some of the best flake tobaccos on planet Earth comes a cherry blend that does not suck. The cherry comes off more as cherry incense to me. It even has some nicotene that makes it even better. I purchased this blend in bulk and it arrived in perfect smoking moisture. Smokes easy and has that good black cherry taste, only in an incence sorta way. Those around you will certainly enjoy the aroma.

Update; This s not your average Cherry tobacco. The nicotene will pop your eyes open. I forgot my daily smoke today and had this in my lunch box. I'm starting to really like it more and more. Just caution on the nicotene.

Im not an aromatic smoker but I gave this one a shot and I am glad I did.

The tin note is a light cherry, not overpowering but slightly artificial in smell.

Packs and lights well. Its not too wet, good to go right out of the tin. Its a dark black tobacco in appearance.

It smokes very well for an aro, and ill in get is cherry with a hint of vanilla. Its a very pleasant taste. Doesn't linger too long but an easy smoking good tasting tobacco.

It smokes clean and surprisingly dry. If I had to guess this is how aro's are supposed to be but are rarely done this well.

I would buy again, but very seldom. Not a reflection of quality but of my preference.

Creamy and perfumey.. subtle but tasty cherry note.. This is an odd duck.. but surely one of the best aromatics I've ever tried.. and it is a full on aromatic.. you do taste the toasty cavendish but it is all about the flavoring.. grab a big bowl for this one.. she burns pretty quick.. not a whole lot of nuance but I can't be too nit pickey.. this delivers exactly what one would expect even though the flavor is not at all typical.. not a drugstore chemical bomb that will roast your tongue.. a delicious and different lakeland experience.. I probably will never smoke it again.. but I did enjoy it.
