Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls
(3.56)
De Luxe Navy Rolls are made in Denmark using hand-stripped Virginia tobaccos from Brazil and Africa, married with perique from Louisiana. This recipe produces an aromatic smoke with natural tobacco flavors and lovely sweet notes.
Notes: Formerly known as Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls, STG has changed the brand name from "Dunhill" to "Peterson".

UPDATE: first of all, i was told by someone at the orlik manufacturers that DLNR IS DISCONTINUED IN DENMARK - I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF THE EU! second, she told me that it's absolutely identical to present day escudo. END UPDATE.
this is as close as i can get to good old escudo here in denmark - and pretty close it is.
the difference lies, i believe, in the virginia base having a little less caracter and being moistened with pg (only guessing here, from the fact that it dries slowly, as i cannot smell or taste it - and it sure doesn't quite live up to the credo of cope's version: "free from all scent or added flavours"), and a smaller amount of perique. all in all a little less strength. still, the tin aroma must one of the most inviting i know of. intense fig-and-raisins, stoved fruit, yummy!
easy to pack and light, tastes fine from the beginning till the end, with bright virginia zest and sweetness, and the solid heavy notes of perique (with the bonus of that ever-so-slight peppery spiciness). it's a most delightfull smoke, especially after dinner with an espresso, but it can really be smoked most of the day.
it seems to age well. i have a large store of it, and i'm continually enlarging it, as i want to be able to keep smoking this blend for years to come in case it should be discontinued.

This is a classic smoke. Natural VA with Perique, handmade & coin cut. The tin smells like fruit cake, plums & raisins - my wife even likes it! I rub it out well & pack my pipe, others stack or fold the coins. My way is easier to light. The smoke is rich, full flavoured with the naturally sweet aromas coming through at first. Toward the end of the bowl this is replaced by a stronger series of peppery notes (from the Perique?). An excellent late evening smoke. Smoke slowly to savour. Burns evenly and cleanly down to a salt & pepper ash.
