Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls
(3.56)
De Luxe Navy Rolls are made in Denmark using hand-stripped Virginia tobaccos from Brazil and Africa, married with perique from Louisiana. This recipe produces an aromatic smoke with natural tobacco flavors and lovely sweet notes.
Notes: Formerly known as Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls, STG has changed the brand name from "Dunhill" to "Peterson".

I found this blend quite enjoyable once it gets going, but quite mild and lacking somewhat in flavour. I didn't get much of the perique flavour in this at all, but a very full rounded note from the virginia. All in all, a good smoke if you enjoy mild virginia blends but I found it somewhat lacking. Don't think I'll be bothering with this one again.

I'm very sorry but my first tin of this tobacco will be my last one as well. Deluxe Navy Rolls is supposed to be the follower of the famous ESCUDO. I never got to know the latter, but if it would have been equal to DNR, it hadn't deserved its fame. This tobacco is, in my subjective opinion, an example of tobacco expenses and brand policy. You only pay the bespoken name of Alfred Dunhill hereby. As you do with buying every Dunhill tobacco. BUT other blends of theirs are worth the expense. 965, Early Morning Pipe, Nightcap.... legends in their own right! But DNR really disappoints me. Its burning qualities are first class, really. It lights like hay and stays absolutely cool throuhout the whole bowl. It doesn't need any relights and can be lit by a single match. But I sadly have to mention that I miss any flavour here. It just tastes like hot air with a dash of perique flavour. No character at all, absolutely boring. I smoked it in every pipe. I used the fold and roll method as with stuffing flakes. I rubbed it into small pieces. Nothing. And that's not much for a tobacco for which you pay twelve Euros in Germany. I smoked tobaccos for half the price with more substance.

Disappointment, after so long waiting the highly praised, and prized by the way,I found a low profile VaPer,good quality Virginia a little Perique and nothing special to say.A elegant but flat blend.Nothing to compare to,for instance, the robust St. James Flake or the highest Virginia of Solani.IMHO a not reasonable prize for a correct mild medium VaPer blend.

Very disappointed in this tobacco. Very mild in flavour, to the point of being cigarette-ish, and no real nicotine kick to speak of, despite the perique.
For a light, mild VaPer Orlik's 'Golden Sliced' is far more appealing and much cheaper alternative.

My understanding is that this is escudo with more of the plum extract applied to it, which gives it more depth. However as with escudo, it is very cigarette like, with a foul room note. Good for an outside walk, but I personally don't care much for most perique. It just tastes like dirt to me in most blends, this being one of them. Oddly, my all time favorite tobacco, dunhill 965, and some of my most hated blends, nightcap and royal yacht, are all made by dunhill. Hit or miss. And this blend for me, is a miss.

On the white can bears proud logo of the Crown and Lions , topped with unreadable inscription "Made Dunhill's standards for excellence world-famous since 1907 ". So, it seems we've got a legend here . Dunhill says that it is a "hand- made from the best tobacco in the world ." Indeed , decent blend of Virginia and spicy (too spicy as for me) Perique rolled into compacted outlet gratifying aesthetic impression for each pipe smoker. Unofortunatelly, not for me. Taste reminds me a Davidoff Royalty without the addition of Latakia, tickling in the throat and sourness. Watch out with drying, too dry pinches your nose. Navy Rolls has some cigarette smoke and quite dose of nicotine. I'm afraid that this is the most expensive tin of all Dunhill blends only cause of it's circle tobacco cutting.

This VaPer was not blended with my palate in mind. It falls short in a big way although there is nothing inherently wrong with it. It is a medium strength, medium bodied tobacco with grassy, tangy, and bready Virginias blended with spicy and fruity Perique. There is a tangy vinegar-like quality to the smoke that I'm not a big fan of. There is a minute sweetness that gets overshadowed by the tangy flavors. My major problem with De Luxe Navy Rolls is that it does not stand up to the other available VaPers. The rich St. James Flake, the very bold Bayou Morning, and even the sweet Elizabethan Mixture just offer so much more than this.

I would equate this to Mac Baren's Navy Flake after a body-building course.
Tin aroma is rich, leathery, tobacco, rum, liqorice, and earthy.
The round discs look elegant and break up well. They smoke slowly however you prepare them and provide a full-bodied smoke with strong tobacco and leather character with hints of liquorice and sassafras.
Room note isn't great and the volume of smoke isn't huge as it burns slowly. Nicotine is fairly heavy so be wary!

Nice presentation upon opening tin. Attractive meaty smelling rolls of mixed shades. Dry it a little and ready to go. Flavor was a little lacking, glad the perique is there. Very one dimensional, wondering how this used to be many years ago.

A pleasant, medium-strength smoke. The Virginia gives the blend a nice buttery, lemon grassy sweetness while the perique lends its usual spicy aftertaste.
I've have the most success rubbing out a few coins and letting them dry overnight as my first smokes were pretty gurgly.
Nice enough stuff, worth a try.
