Bought a 2 oz bag of this blend. It arrived extremely dry. Extremely easy to light. Burns hot but not too hot. It alternates between a 2 and a 3 stars. The perique is not very noticeable but when it comes through it is very pleasant. The virginias are more noticeable than the perique and are nice. I would have liked a bit more perique and virginia and alot less burley. This blend has a tendency to smoke a little bitter. Stayed lit the entire smoke, however I only enjoyed about half of the bowl the other half all I tasted was burley. This blend is very mild in flavor and almost no nicotine effect is noticed. If your a fan of burley i would recommend this blend however if you're looking for loads of flavor I would not recommend this. The room note is a nice mild smokey smell which is quite pleasant. My rating is 2.5/4 stars for Haunted Bookshop.

I love the name for this blend, as I am known to haunt quite a few bookstores myself. However, this blend just leaves me cold. The taste reminds me of an upscale Prince Albert. I like burley, but this stuff has the bitter, sour tastes that make me stop in a hurry. I really wanted to like this one, but I can't.

Nearly indistinguishable for me from Old Joe Krantz so I'll borrow what I wrote of OJK for this.

The smell from the tin is not the best, it's very similar to OJK (sour) but a tad sweeter, I've come to consider this the smell of C&D blends with Perique. Didn't get a lot of what I think of as burley smell.

Initial draw was of Perique, and "generic" - if there's such a thing - tobacco taste. It's not Oriental, it's not Virginia Flake, it's not VaPer, or Latakia, and definitely not flavoured. It's tobacco, no more no less. The bowl smoked effortlessly to the heel, coolly and consistently. However here's where the problems started for me, there was not much flavour here! I'd get the unmistakable taste of Perique on the nose, lower amount than Bayou Morning Flake, but quite a hefty dose still but really not a lott else I could put my finger on. Unpleasant? Not at all, just a bit bland. Definitely not something I'd consider having a nicotine kick either.

Another similarity this tobacco has with OJK is that bowls seem to disappear in a flash, even packed tight, even considering it was at perfect moisture for immediate smoking from the tin. That's not a problem, just a note.

This is most definitely an all-day tobacco, sometimes one does not need to be stimulated all the time, and this tobacco would fill this niche.

What a stinky blend! It tastes pretty good though. Comes in the tin a bit too dry and it is coarse cut so it will burn a bit hot. If you like a well balanced burley blend with lots of flavor, go for this.

Nutty, earthy, wood filled with a touch of black pepper. Some smokiness from the perique and of medium strength. I guess I expected a bit more from this blend, but it is pleasant enough. Not as complex as the pipe tobaccos from SBC I have been smoking lately and much different that DE Gatsby Luxury Flake which has a similar make up. I would give the nod to the Gatsby in this regards. I have 6 ounces to burn through and my impressions may change as I make my way through this jar I packed up.

It has been awhile since I had a C&D blend. Now I remember why I don't get them anymore. Opened up a fresh tin of this blend and it was as dry as hay that's been out in the sun too long. Surprisingly, it does not burn down as fast. With a slow cadence you should be able to stretch it to maybe 25 minutes, but don't hold me to it. The taste is along the lines of the old OTC burley blends that are still out there. Just not my cuppa. YMMV. Over all, it is only slightly recommended.

Haunted Bookshop... Ah the name got me... Again marketer's take note, anything with "Haunted, Autumn ,Dark, Mysterious, Hollow etc. will get my attention... Anyways I do like these types of blends although HB is a bit too musty for my taste. I like my Burley blends to have more sweetness and less spicyness. I would recommend HB to a veteran that enjoys very earthy and slightly bitter spicy burley blends... Room note will not earn any praises...

I got this in a trade, so I can't vouch for the average condition when you buy it in a shop. It didn't feel cased and doesn't taste to me like it is dosed with flavorings, but just tastes like good burley which has been spiced with perique and VA leaf in such a way as to create a very relaxed soft tasting blend. I have come to like it as a palate cleanser of sorts between bowls of my more pungent blends. The sweet/baked va shows up every now and then and the burley has a nice aroma without being perfumed. This is what I had always hoped more of the codger burleys would be like. A solid 2.75 star tobacco. Nothing wrong with it, not too complex or high falutin' and fancified. Just tasty, cool burning, easy going pipe smoking.

One little note...if you are a quick puffer, you won't get burned or bitten, but if you can keep this on the edge of going out it will show you a bunch of little surprises.

This reminds me of Prince Albert, only way better.

I'm smoking 4oz of Haunted Bookshop in bulk, and it burns like tinder - whoosh! and it's gone. Pack it tight so you can to slow the burning.

Personally, I like a longer smoke that lingers. This burns too fast for my taste. If they make this in a flake form I think I'd buy it again.
