Peterson 3 Years Cask Aged English Mixture
(3.00)
Different Virginia grades are aged in old oak barrels for at least three years together with a tiny portion of Black Cavendish and a noticeable portion of Louisiana Perique. This makes it a thoroughly full-bodied, mildly spicy blend, which is given further depth of taste by flavoring with whiskey from the Danish distillery Braunstein.

There seems to be a lot of confusion going around due to the name ”English Mixture” being used loosely by manufacturers. This is NOT an English blend but it is a fine Va/Per. I am not sure why the name was chosen, but I will not judge this blend based on that.
I smoked two nice bowls of this in my Tsuge tasting pipe today, and I am ready to give my two cents. The tin note is sweet grassy Virginia with the faint smell of whiskey, and it’s ready to smoke straight from the tin — not overly wet or dry.
The smoke offers a lot of perique, far more than I expected. That spiciness pairs well with the subtle cask note. I didn’t expect to get any of that oak wood flavour, but it does come through just enough to give a whiskey characteristic to this blend. There is a slight sweetness from the small portion of Cavendish that helps bring forward the whiskey flavouring. Overall, this does not feel like an aromatic whatsoever. It’s a Va/Per with subtle whiskey notes.
Vitamin N sits at a comfortable medium with this blend. A bowl of this satisfies but doesn’t overwhelm. There are no rough edges, and this is easily an all day smoke. Honestly, I will have to be careful not to smoke this jar too fast, because I really really enjoyed those two bowls I smoked today.
The last thing I must report is that the room note is surprising pleasant considering how much perique I get from this blend. I had no complaints from the lady about this one despite the smell lingering in the house when she got home, and I do often receive complaints.
This is a great blend, and I am going to try to order more if available. Easily a 4/4 and I can see this becoming one of my favourites.
